Easy Apple Pie Recipe
This classic apple pie recipe is perfect for any occasion, offering a delightful balance of sweet, spiced apples encased in a buttery, flaky crust. With simple ingredients and easy steps, you can create a homemade treat that’s sure to impress family and friends.
Ingredients:
For the crust:
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small cubes
¼ cup granulated sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
4-6 tablespoons ice water
For the filling:
6 cups peeled, cored, and sliced apples (e.g., Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
¾ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon salt
For assembly:
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions:
Prepare the Crust:
In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt.
Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough begins to come together.
Divide the dough into two equal parts, shape into disks, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Make the Filling:
In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss until well-coated.
Assemble the Pie:
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
On a floured surface, roll out one disk of dough to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Transfer the dough to the dish and trim the edges.
Pour the apple filling into the crust.
Roll out the second disk of dough and place it over the filling. Trim and crimp the edges to seal. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
Brush the top crust with the beaten egg and sprinkle with granulated sugar.
Bake the Pie:
Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
Let the pie cool on a wire rack before serving to allow the filling to set.
Enjoy your homemade apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream!
