"How far? Ten don nack oh. Where una dey?" That was me, talking to Danny Rymez over the phone. I and my close friends were going to the recording studio to work on music for the first time ever. We lived on the same street but agreed to meet by the road, adjacent to Kad Poly (Sabo by express). It was Eazy Bob Wizzy, Gabriello, Trent (nka Tu-Strent Iduh) and Young-Ben (nka Pablo). Danny Rymez was gonna meet us at the studio later that day. I was so excited throughout the journey to Sound Time Studios at Station R/Abt. When we arrived, we waited a bit for Billy Tee (I think) to show up so we could start work. He came in, fueled the gen and we started work! I was so amazed and thrilled at the way the songs started coming together and making sense as we sang the hook repeatedly, while he was making the beat. "We Go Rock" was supposed to be hardcore Hip-Hop but he changed it to a party track for us, and at the moment we had no problem with it, Danny Rymez joined us later as we were "putting in work." We all did our rehearsals so, recording was not that tough (for me) I can't say anything about the rest 😂. We were all newbies but it wasn't as tough as we thought it would be, it wasn't as easy either haha! After an amazing music making session that lasted a while (we worked on five songs), it was time to head home (Danny Rymez left earlier with Mamadoo [a friend he feat. on a track]). We stepped out and the clouds had changed, everybody was rushing home, it was gonna rain. We had high hopes we were gonna get a bus or bikes, so we kept walking and by the time we were close to Danbo Bridge, the rain started. It was HEAVY and there was no place we could stand for shade, we kept jogging and walking, under this heavy rain with hopes of getting a bus. We jogged all the way to Crittal Hope, still, no shade, no bus. By the time we got to Command, we saw a bar and ran into it. They were nice enough to let us stand underneath this hut-like setting they had. After the rain stopped, we walked home as if we weren't soaked in the rain or we didn't run into a spot with water high up our knees. It was all laughs, till we all got home. That day, I knew. I knew "this music thing" was what I was supposed to do, I knew I was in love and there was nothing I was gonna change about the 28th of Aug. 2008. That day X-Rekordz (@teamxrek) was born. Fast forward to 2018 and I can only imagine what the future holds. The World is OURS for the taking. Join me and my friends from the 7th - 9th of Sept. as we celebrate 10 Years of ups and downs and most importantly GOD at #XREKWKND. I might be performing songs from our first ever compilation album 😅. 📸: Emmy Bishop.
