MBTI: INFJ – The Advocate
There was a part of her, a tiny voice in her head, that told her that maybe this was not necessarily the best way to handle things. But what else was she supposed to do? Therapy? Tell anyone about all the things and dark thoughts that kept her up at night? About the voices that keep on whispering things into her mind?
How was she supposed to keep on living in the Carrow Manor when she saw her father everywhere? This seemed like a much appropriate and fun alternative than being alone with her thoughts. So Alecto did what she did best, she ordered a bottle of the most decent drink they could serve in this place and started to drink. One, two, three glasses until the anxiety subsided and was replaced by something else.
How she ended up dancing in the middle of the bar, she had no idea. But Alecto was in her own world, the alcohol made her more docile, happier, less burdened by reality. She spun around and then felt someone taking her wrist.
"Well, hello to you too" she smiled brightly., getting off their grip and kept on dancing without a care.
The adrenaline from the mission still hummed beneath Edgar's skin. Coupled with several long days at the Ministry, he couldn't remember the last time he'd managed more than a few hours of restless sleep. Knockturn Alley—and certainly this particular establishment—wasn't somewhere he'd have chosen under normal circumstances, but it was late, and he needed something. Noise. Company. Enough whisky to quiet the thoughts that refused to leave him alone. Beggars couldn't be choosers, or so the saying went. Feeling someone stumble into him, on instinct he moved, gripping her wrist to steady her, && then just as quick, he let go, a brief, apologetic curl of the lips. “Sorry.” words few in a murmur, “Thought you were going to fall.”
Edgar was born the eldest of three children into the Bones family. His childhood was relatively happy, coming from a close-knit family that valued kindness and authenticity above all else. He spent long summers visiting family in Spain, surrounded by books, long afternoons in the garden, and evenings learning about magical plants from his family. He developed an early fascination with puzzles, ancient stories and the natural world, often disappearing for hours with a book beneath a tree or helping to tend tto herbs in the garden. Those quieter moments fostered a patient thoughtfulness that stayed with him in adulthood.
While his parents didn’t mean to pressure their children, Edgar quickly became someone everyone relied upon. Clever and naturally dependable, he often took on responsibility without being asked, watching over his younger sister && brother. It simply became second nature; his parents would go to work && Edgar would simply help out. He’d help make Amelia’s bottles, he’d read to his brother, Edgar would act as an impartial mediator in any squabble.
Hogwarts.
There had been a considerable pause during the Sorting, the Hat uncharacteristically quiet as it deliberated.
It weighed Edgar's curiosity against his compassion. In the end, heart won out against mind. While Edgar had an eager mind, a love of learning that seemed to thrive during his lessons, at his core, it seemed that every pursuit of knowledge ultimately led him back to the same place: helping others. && so he wore the Badger’s yellow && Black colours with Pride.
At Hogwarts, Edgar quickly established himself as someone with the potential to be great. He possessed an extraordinary aptitude for magic, particularly in Ancient Runes, Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts and Herbology. He had a genuine love of learning; there was always a new question to be asked, a new method to master. While he felt guilty not being able to help his family, here he was in his element.
Despite his academic achievements, Edgar was never competitive. He tutored younger students without a second thought, shared his notes freely, and celebrated others' success. His dependability eventually led to his appointment as Prefect and later Head Boy.
career
After graduating, Edgar accepted a position within the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, where he specialised in curse-breaking and the identification of Dark magic. His work centred on dismantling cursed objects, lifting lingering enchantments from crime scenes, translating ancient runes, and ensuring dangerous magic could no longer claim innocent victims.
As the war drags on, this job is starting to take its toll on Edgar's mental well-being. Day in && day out, he sees the outcomes of malicious magic, used carelessly on whoever. What had once been a deeply fulfilling career gradually starts to be consumed by tragedy.
Increasingly, he found himself restoring homes devastated by Death Eater attacks, breaking curses placed upon Muggles and Muggle-borns, and documenting atrocities for Ministry investigations. Edgar continued to give everything he has because he believed every curse broken is another life reclaimed, but the emotional weight of carrying so many people's suffering has become too heavy. Edgar is prone to becoming consumed by cases, working long into the early hours of the morn in order to come up with solutions. Exhaustion has started to settle under his eyes, in his smile, in the way he seems to hold himself.
The appeal of retiring && opening up a used magical book shop is there, he can’t drag himself away from this, not now, not while the war rages on.
First Wizarding War.
Straight out of Hogwarts, Edgar joined the Order. It was a necessity; he needed to keep his family safe, h needs to protect all those muggles, all those witches && wizards who go to bed scared, all those who can’t protect themselves. Fiercely loyal and deeply self-sacrificing, he rarely hesitated to place himself in harm's way if it meant protecting someone else. He doesn’t care that the war has left him physically and emotionally exhausted, burning the candle from both ends. Edgar refuses to abandon the fight; he will do what he must to keep his family safe.
Hopes + Dreams.
He longs for serenity, for a quiet, slow && peaceful existence. After the war, Edgar has started harbouring the plans that maybe he could retire from the ministry, maybe take a pause && live a quieter existence. A life filled with restoring old texts; perhaps he could open up a used magical book shop.
He dreams of a home filled with laughter, overflowing bookshelves, thriving gardens, and cups of tea that don't go cold—a life where knowledge is used to nurture rather than survive.
Bonus HC.
001. Edgar couldn’t say ‘Amelia’ as a child && always called her ‘Mila’
002. Edgar is not particularly competitive, so he’s really enjoyed playing Quidditch; he does love to fly. When his head is buzzing && everything gets too much, Edgar takes to the sky for some night flying. Lingering in the cool air, under the blanket of stars, is therapeutic && helps centre him.
003. His wand is: Rowan Wood, Unicorn Hair Core, 13 inches, Supple.
