Hello! I'm the Abyssal Author and Artist (self-picked title), and I go by Xander, Darren, Isabeau and honestly whatever! You can call me by my url, I don't mind but it's not my favorite. My pronouns are he/him or it/its.
Profile picture is from this post -> https://www.tumblr.com/otiksimr/776889596488400896/poorly-drawn-shinx-line
DIviders are these from @pixopix
I love to draw and write fanfiction! My AO3 is abyssal_author_artist and I've got over 60 fics for a bunch of fandoms as of now. (Current highest - In Stars and Time)
I now have a dedicated art blog! This blog used to be @abyssal-author-and-artist but now that's my art blog!
I was asked my opinion on fanart of my fics here if you want to draw something based on my fics!
A ko-fi would be much appreciated, but I do this for fun!
My interests change constantly and I usually forget to spoiler tag reblogs, so browse with caution! I'm a fandom nerd through and through, honestly.
We're plural! We don't talk about it much (and sys-course is banned from here though we're very firmly pro-endo) but if you want us to actually be openly plural you can follow us at @binary-black-hole-sys or send us a friend request on simplyplural! Dm for our user.
I'm opening commissions! Still working on setting up a commissions sheet and everything, but if you see this and you want to purchase something, I've already got prices figured out so just dm me and we'll talk. All my art is under the tag #abyssal art or at @abyssal-author-and-artist if you want to see what my art is like!
Asks are always on and I reblog a lot of ask games! I'm also always open to being mentioned in reblog chains/games or just posts you want me to see.
My catch-all tag for anything I add a significant amount to is #screaming out of the abyss.
this is really interesting in how it frames disability/low spoons/etc as not being a series of internal symptoms, but specifically a situation in which daily tasks increase in complexity. for example i used to be able to wash the dishes normally. but now mental and physical issues combine to make that situation have a lot of prequalifications (do I have time, energy, how long can I do it without being sore the next day) that means many more steps are involved in getting that single physical act of washing a dish to be done.
If someone cut down whole fucking trees on a property I owned without my permission this would instead be a post about the graphic details of my murder trial (worth it)
My boyfriend, again blending together fanfiction tropes: So what if when you finally find your soulmate, that’s when you discover if you’re alpha or omega, right?
Me, hands shaking as I frantically search for pen & paper: KEEP TALKING
Boyfriend: YES THEY ARE. They communicate via pheromones— LIKE ANTS.
Me: So back to the soulmate thing….
Boyfriend: You could trick them into following orders and thinking they’re dead by spraying them with a spritz bottle. I think they need a queen.
Me: So back to the soulmate thing…. Seems hellish!
Boyfriend: Not really. If being around the other person is what triggers the changes, if you want to go back to normal… all you need to do is leave.
Me, writing: (You found your soulmate. It’s changing you in scary ways. All you need to do is leave… how difficult would it be to leave? What pressures exist to stay?)
Cursed to be stuck inside this ancient amulet for years but you know I was kind of getting used to it. The solitude had eaten away just enough of my sanity that I'm pretty sure it only would've been a few more days before I started hallucinating some really neat shit.
But then. THEN. This fuckass twink descendant of my mortal enemies picks up my amulet. Takes right out of the sacred chamber. I guess it was finally a ruin now? Worse timing possible, too late to stop me going insane and right before the insanity could pay off.
So some clueless idiot is actually wearing me for the first time in centuries. I'm gonna wreck this dude's shit, I don't care if he is weirdly nice and kind of pretty in the face department. The second I accumulate enough power I'm breaking out of here and making him regret being born.
Okay so I did accumulate enough energy that I might have been able to break out, maybe, but also probably not quite just yet. Which is why I had to use it to stop that dragon from killing Captain Fuckwit.
Like I had to do it. If the dragon kills him how am I supposed to be the one to do it? I didn't rot in that sealed chamber for centuries just so that the last living descendant of my most hated enemies could get offed by something that wasn't me. There's no poetic justice in that and also I am NOT owing any dragons any favors.
I've been thinking about how I'm going to kill this guy. I mean there's not a lot else to do, I'm still stuck in the amulet so mostly I'm limited to being spooky in his dreams until I suck up some more power. But it's going to happen. I'm out of the sealed chamber now there's so many opportunities and also I'm patient. I've learned to be extremely patient. Would be weird if I hadn't.
Anyway I'm not going to kill him right away. Where's the satisfaction in that? He's the last descendant of my enemies (pretty sure) so of course I gotta drag it out. This is the only revenge I might ever get. I'll have to capture him. Keep him sealed away for a long time, see how he likes it. But like. In a nicer placed than that fucking chamber because unlike some long dead assholes, I have standards. Plus I'm also going to spending a lot of my time there too, menacing him and shit, so it better be nice for me.
I'm thinking summer house on an otherwise uninhabited island. I keep him there where there are no dragons or ogres or demon kings to interrupt, and I tell him all about the shitty things his ancestors did, to like. Demoralize him. So that he knows that even though I'm a scary evil creature that's going to be his ending, he doesn't get as much moral high ground as he'd probably like. I make him eat meals with me just to draw out the tension, and then I give him nightmares, making him twist and writhe in his sweat-soaked sheets while his heart hammers against his ribs and he wonders if this will finally be the night I finish him.
Listen. Giving him command of the remnants of my dark army is just practical right now. I don't have the energy to communicate extensively with them myself, and they'll keep him alive long enough for me to take my elaborate revenge without me constantly having to intervene and sacrifice my own energy to do it. And anyway I have ceremonies to plan, it's going to be amazing, I'm going to round up every last remnant from the old days so that they can witness my final triumph when I claim his life and soul forever.
Also, he used them to humiliate that other fuckass descendant guy. Even I can begrudgingly admit it was pretty well done. Corrupting influence gain! I'm kind of surprised his allies haven't all abandoned him for using dark and sinister forces to save their lives, though, but I guess it's fine if they don't. Sure why not. We can be cool with raising cursed armies in this day and age apparently. Yeah that thing I was sealed away for for centuries is just not a big deal now. Cool cool cool.
You know what, I'm going to make his friends come to the ceremony too. So they can also witness my triumph and his utter defeat and subjugation at my hands.
Maybe I'll even let them visit him in his woeful imprisonment afterwards as well. Just to really hammer the point home. They're not the worst company, at least. Not as annoying as heroes used to be. We can have them over for dinner while I lord my victory above their helplessness. Real power move to just let them come and see the guy that they are nevertheless unable to free from my dark clutches.
I guess I better make sure they also don't all die either, if that's the case. It's a good thing I'm patient. So many fucking setbacks!
Those guys were supposed to be dead for centuries! And they're still ruining my life! Fucking. That fuckass other descendant managed to summon them and of course THEY are still not cool with me or my dark forces, although I'm going to be real, they weren't looking too noble and above-aboard themselves when they turned up. That was some hypocritical undead revenant bullshit.
Of course I ended up fighting them. They attacked first! Again! They were even trying to kill their own descendant! And those heinous bitches called me the monster. I've never tried to kill my own descendants. Probably because I don't have any but still. At least try and take over his body first or something!
Well actually they did try it, I think? But that hero of theirs had worn my amulet for so long that he was too corrupted for it to work. Ha!
Small victories.
I'm going to need to hang onto those.
Because now I'm sealed back in the fucking Chamber Eternal again.
FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCKING---!!!!
Okay.
Alright.
I'm not going to lie this isn't looking good. I'm not in the amulet anymore but the seals on the chamber are strong, made with the souls of those fuckdamn ancient heroes. All my power is left with their descendant on the outside now. My plans are thwarted. I'm going to languish in this minimalist hell of a chamber until those ancient souls run out of juice, and currently they're forming a dome of spiritual energy so flush with power that the ghosts on the moon can probably see it.
It... it's going to be... I mean. It'll be fine. Back to getting to the good part of going insane, right?
I was really confused at first because, why would my sworn enemy who I've been plotting vengeance against this entire time free me from the chamber? At great effort and personal risk, no less? That fight was absolutely brutal, I'm not sure I could have even done it myself in his place, and I mean his situation without even bothering was quite good. He had all of my power. His ancestors were likewise distracted with sealing me away. He could have ascended to become the next Dark Lord or, I don't know, ran around doing his Power of Friendship bullshit for the next ten thousand years largely uncontested. Not only does he not have a further use for me but if anything, I present a massive threat to him if I can regain enough strength to take my power back.
But I think that's it! That Power of Friendship bullshit! Somehow, this guy has mistaken me for an ally.
I can work with this.
As long as he doesn't suspect that we're actually enemies, I can bide my time, restore my power, wrestle control of my armies back from his grasp, and then get him back on his knees.
I just need to pretend that I've actually been helping him out this entire time.
I really want him back on his knees. That was a good look on him. He's got like super long eyelashes for a dude. Plus you know that's where he belongs, groveling before my might! Mwahahaha!
Well this is going surprisingly well. Like I don't think it's even occurred to him to be suspicious of me? He hasn't even tried to drug me with truth serum or test me at a holy spring or drag me in front of any tribunals. When I caught one of his little friends passing information to his rivals he just... took my word for it. I could have been lying. I wasn't, because I was actually expecting him to check, but I could have been.
I'm almost starting to wonder if he really is descended from those ancient hero fuckers, he doesn't act like them at all. The apple must have rolled into a goddamn river and been carried off to sea after it fell off that tree.
Just because I'm pretending to be his ally doesn't mean I can't still sabotage him, of course. That one little traitor might have been a real mole, who is... somehow still in the group, and not beheaded or anything(????). But I'm pretty sure the king's son is genuinely devoted to his brother-in-arms, to my hero-enemy, and hasn't committed any convenient betrayals that I can dig out and wave around to get rid of him. If that even would get rid of him (see: traitor mole still in group). More's the pity.
Such a strong political alliance with the ruling family will further cement my hero's power in this region. Potentially, that will make it even harder to extricate him for my own purposes later on. Of course, it's not worth the risk if I do something too extreme and it gets traced back to me, so I can't simply kill the prince.
But I didn't study medicine at my grandmother's knee just to forget all the useful bits in my dark rise to power. That idiot won't be riding out to adventure alongside his 'sworn brother' tomorrow if he has too many embarrassing rashes to get into his saddle.
This might seem like a petty plot that is beneath me but it's tactically sound. I've thought about it a lot.
I take it back these people are abominably over-observant. I'd rather be caught trying to poison the prince again, but the hero's singular suspicious friend, that woman knight, just had to follow me to the abandoned shrine instead.
Cats are one of nature's most successful predators. Properly trained, a dark familiar is an excellent spy and helper, and I am in need of every advantage I can get right now. Everyone knows the best way to ingratiate yourself to animals is to get them young. Feeding kittens is a sinister action.
I mean it's good that it helps my cover that these people think otherwise, it's just that they're wrong. Half of my family was executed for feeding cats. Back in those days everyone knew what was up and nobody cooed about it.
Shit, shit, I knew we shouldn't have kept that mole around. Fucking sob story bullshit. The hero's captured. My dark feline army isn't ready! I'm going to have to turn to some other means of regaining him before the enemy steals my power from him. They can't be allowed to do that. It'd kill him but more importantly it would make it that much harder for me to ever reclaim it.
The only one allowed to strip him and put him in chains is me!!! ME!!! He's mine!!! I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE FIRST TO DO THAT TO HIM!!!
Bastards! Hacks!
I didn't sell my soul to eight different devils to be upstaged by some fuckers who barely grasps the fundamentals of summoning circles. Fuck the low battery I don't need the dark forces of beyond to take these bitches out, their rituals are shit enough I'm going to end them with a piece of chalk and three drops of blood. Hold my fucking beer.
Hero says he needs to reward me for saving him when we get back. I should probably decline whatever it is, that's what all these people seem to do, but I'll at least see what he's offering first. Just in case it's worth cracking my cover for.
Hey so it's come to my attention that the Creators of Disco Elysium want you to share the game and not give the company who took over and fired them (illegally)?) any profits off of their ideas and work, and I originally joined tumblr 2 weeks ago when that post was going around about the Steam sale and how you should [Skull and Crossbones flag] it instead.
So.
in light of that.
Check the replies/notes of this post :)
I was informed that posts containing links in them aren't findable in the search so i'll just.... drop a link in a seperate reboot :)
hello 👋 I'm here to ask about sentikids lore in your au :-]
Yippie thank you for the interest!!! I was really excited to talk about the sentikids because since they're all magic creatures it lets me mess around with how the logic for them existing works
(For those who haven't seen, intro post here: https://www.tumblr.com/shinx-stardust/819088763780218880/my-fairynette-tumblr-ate-the-quality-so-bad-but)
So first, our roster is a little changed! Here's everyone in creation order and what sort of spirit they are: Kagami (dragon spirit, Touched by Longg), Chloé (bee fairy, Touched by Pollen), Zoé (bee fairy, Aligned with Pollen), Felix (peacock fairy, Touched by Duusuu), and Adrien (Blessed by Plagg)
(More under cut!)
Since this is technically a no Miraculous AU, sentibeings aren't made using the Peacock Miraculous. Instead, they were all made using the powers of a peacock fairy, Emilie Agreste. She was Touched by Duusuu and therefore had a fairly good -- but not unlimited -- grasp on her powers. The story goes something like this:
Emilie and Gabriel wanted a child. At the same time, some of their friends (Tomoe, Audrey and André) also wanted kids. As a peacock fairy, Emilie could make living beings by giving up a small chunk of her power. The more complex the being, the more power it would take, and while she could give more than one being life at a time, it would take a lot of effort. (The way it works in my head is that she has a certain number of crest feathers on her head and when she runs out, she runs out of magic.)
The first child created was Kagami. Tsurugi Tomoe was a close friend of Gabriel's, and had no plans of ever having a partner. So Emilie sacrificed her first feather to bring Kagami into the world. Tomoe is more lizard-like in nature, while Kagami is an actual dragon spirit.
Next, Audrey and André came to Emilie. You may notice that Chloé and Zoé are both sentikids. Chloé was the first. They wanted a daughter, a bee like them, and Emilie gave her to them. Zoé was born, rather than from love, as a product of someone Audrey had been cheating on André with attempting to babytrap her. Emilie was tricked, having created Zoé hoping that she would be loved. But instead the two girls were raised far apart from one another, and fought most of the time they saw each other.
At this point, Emilie noticed her strength waning. She could give herself her child, or give Amelie the child she had wanted all her life instead, or...
Emilie came up with a compromise. The power of peacock magic is fickle, and it takes more energy to direct it, but if you're willing to let it do what it wants, you can stretch it a little farther. It's a hard sell to Amelie, but once she saw Emilie wasn't budging, she gave in. At this point Gabriel was swamped, between running his fashion empire (yes even as a butterfly fairy) and traveling the world trying to find something to prevent his wife from burning all her magic.
Felix was next. He's a peacock, like Emilie was, but Amelie is also a peacock (even if only Aligned with Duusuu) so he resembles his mother still. Amelie spends her son's first moments crying over him, and the next crying over her sister. Emilie tried to assure her she'll have some time.
There's only one last sentikid to be created. Everyone except Amelie had some requests of their children -- Audrey and André wanted girls, Tomoe wanted someone to be proud of. But Amelie just wanted a child she could love, and Emilie wants the same.
Emilie plucks the last crest feather from her head, and holds out the weddings rings -- one hers, and one left to her while its proper own traveled. As the feather joins the rings, Emilie holds her truest, deepest, most earnest wish close to her chest.
I just want someone I can love, who will grow up to be kind.
See, the powers of peacock fairies sort of force the hand of fate in a way. Creating a tailored sentibeing, like Chloé, Zoé, and Kagami, reaches towards the kwamis and manually asks for the powers granted to a naturally born spirit. All three of them felt a peacock's powers reach out, saw the blueprints for who that child could become, and made their judgements. Pollen saw potential in both Chloé and Zoé, but resented her powers being used for spite, and wanted to give Chloé a chance she'd hardly get otherwise. Longg saw a part of herself in Kagami, and knew that she'd get a chance to shine. Felix, however, had no input for how he would form, so Duusuu's interest in him was natural, and she had no chance to change him in the same ways the others could be changed.
But a peacock's last feather is special. Unlike Felix, who was a default peacock fairy born naturally, this last feather alerted all the kwamis. It's not every day a peacock fairy gives their last drops of magic to create someone. And with such an earnest wish? That's impressive.
Emilie had no control over how her child would turn out. It's not uncommon for peacock fairy creations to turn out Cursed instead, for the kwami to reject their powers being borrowed. So when Adrien finally was born, sporting the appearance of a child Cursed, she accepted it. And she loved him anyways. Gabriel, when he got home, was... less accepting. But Emilie loved Adrien with all her heart.
The decline of Emilie Agreste was a slow one. She wouldn't die, not quite yet. She held onto hope, for her son and her family and even her husband, and she refused to let go until they were all happy. But she was still dying. Day by day, she slowed. She slept for longer. She ate less. Her heartbeat slowed. Until one day, when Adrien was around ten, she stopped. She slumped onto Gabriel's shoulder, breathing slow and shallow and rarely, and he took her away, and no one saw Emilie ever again.
She's alive. Hidden somewhere within Agreste Manor, she's in some sort of magical coma. The air around her is dry from the air being sucked out of it, and the flowers by her feet are brown and brittle, but she's alive as long as there's magic for her body to absorb. There's no way to get her back to health, save for the Blessed of Creation and Destruction to will it together.
Ironically, becoming an Touched Acolyte would've saved her. Nothing Emilie did would've broken the waver she would've made with Duusuu, and it would've given her just enough energy that as long as she created Adrien and Felix the exact same, and as long as she never stopped holding love in her heart, she would've survived, if a little sickly.
Now, dear reader, you may at this point notice a few inconsistencies in my story. We have no Cursed spirits in our cast, and Adrien is Blessed by Plagg. So why does he look Cursed?
If someone is rejected by all kwamis, denied even Alignment with any of them, they fall into a peculiar subset of Destruction. So, every Cursed looks like a black cat spirit.
As a child, it's impossible to tell if a child is Blessed by Plagg or Cursed. In either case, they're born a small half-cat creature; rich black fur all over their bodies, little ears that start folded and slowly poke up, soft downy tails and healthy whiskers. Some will even have cat pupils when they blink.
A Cursed child grows up to show their curse very clearly on their cat form. The fur on their bodies falls out, their ears grow patchy and sometimes damaged, their tails develop kinks in them and their whiskers will become short and bent.
A child Blessed by Plagg looks very different as they grow. Their coat stays thick and healthy and shiny, they gain the ability to run and jump and claw things as they grow, and receive all the benefits of being chosen by He of Destruction.
Plagg's blessing come in disguise. And sometimes, that disguise is to give his Blessed child the exact right powers to hide that he is Blessed. And Adrien is Plagg's favorite child in a long, long while.
So Adrien grows up, and when his mother's passed and he needs a break the most, Plagg appears before him and explains. Adrien's the only one to have a secret identity, as Chat Noir, Plagg's clear Blessed.
And that's the end of the narrative exposition! Phew that was a lot of fun I liked it a lot. What do you do when you love a child so much Destruction himself goes "I'll give helping this child a shot" and then gets attached (Plagg and Adrien are still friends bc that's precious)
This post is. Longer than the last one! But I do really want to talk about how all the sentikids are weird about romance (which is directly related to them being sentikids but mostly because they're kids Literally Made of someone's emotion and so that kinda fucks with how they feel it)
So! Brief rundown of how they're weird and who they feel for!
Adrien: Even when he feels very strongly in one way, he can't help but feel a little bit of the emotional/support type of love for everyone. Romantically he has some unaddressed (pretending they don't exist) flushed feelings for Marinette, his actual official emotional support lover is Chloé, he's got the world's softest least rivalry-based rivalry-love thing going on with Kagami, and nothing in the last section
Felix: Can't help but feel the rivalry-based love for everyone. In a classic romantic relationship with Kagami, but they're also definitely rivals, but he sometimes acts like her emotional supporter. Actively in the world's worst romantic clusterfuck with Kagami and Marinette. Felinette horrible clusterfuck rivalry thing that they're both really into but Marinette hates and that Kagami finds herself having to help out with anyone? (Kagami is their stray cat guy)
Kagami: Romantic-romantic love is her default. She yearns for it, it fuels her in a way that maybe she should get looked at. Felix is her official classic romantic love, and she's the stray cat/emotional support for Felix and Marinette's weird thing. She might have a crush on Marinette in the pale way? Don't ask her she doesn't know. She does for sure have a massive rivals crush on Adrien but she's horrible at expressing it and comes off very emotional support. Girl your mixed signals
Chloé: Just kind of weird in that she doesn't really have any distinctions between the sorts of love she feels. Her romantic and her rivalries and her emotional support are one big huge mess. Biggest source of contention in her life is Marinette, who she can never figure out if she hates(/p) or hates (/r) or just kinda likes actually (/r) and she kinda wants Sabrina to be a thing with her and Marinette but she also just wants to be Sabrina's emotional support partner and honestly she's still so suffocated by her mom she's just gonna be an asshole to everyone to cope
Zoé: Stray cat or nothing for her. She can only really get behind the idea of joining someone else's relationship to help them work out their issues and like kiss them sometimes? But only in the context of stray cat relationship.
Disclaimer that of course none of this actually makes you weird! They're just all some flavor of aspec and very bad at identifying/naming/expressing emotions. Zoé is the most like classically aroace and everyone else falls somewhere between aro and just bad at identifying emotions. I mostly just describe them all as weird about romance because fairy amatonormativity is a funny concept to me and also very very real. Fairy society knows nothing about aromanticism. (Also: Luka is also somewhere aromantic in that he's pretty much only capable of feeling the emotional support kind of love but he's not a sentikid he's just like that)
Oh and amoks work basically as normal, all the same objects as normal, I haven't picked Chloé's yet but Zoé definitely reclaimed hers at some point. Emilie could've released them while she lived but now she's in a coma and can't
One of the worst feelings in the world: when you are just desperate, like claw-your-own-skin-off desperate, to create, but the only thing that even vaguely appeals to you to work on is a nebulous half-feeling that might be dreamily related to some half-formed notion of a concept. I must! Make! No thing! Only make!
My fairynette!!! Tumblr ate the quality so bad but that's what I get for always using my mspaint pen lol! I've been worldbuilding a whole fairy/spirit AU for her (and yes I just wanted to draw a fairy Marinette which lead to my entire AU lol) so more details under cut!
In this universe, everyone's some sort of various fairy or spirit! Marinette is a ladybug fairy, Adrien is a cat spirit, Alya is a fox spirit, Chloé and Zoé are bee fairies, etc etc! They all have some level of innate power due to being literal fairies and magical creatures, but that doesn't mean they can't be given extra power from the kwamis!
Every spirit is bound in some way to at least one of the kwamis, even if it's not immediately obvious. However there are different levels to the attachment they each have. The levels are Blessed, Touched, Aligned, and Cursed*. What type of spirit someone is doesn't influence who they're bound to but the other way around can (eg. someone Blessed by Tikki is guaranteed to be a ladybug of some sort, but there can be a Trixx-Aligned bee fairy). To explain the Blessed/Touched/Aligned difference here's my rant about how everyone relates to their kwami
Marinette is Blessed by Tikki! She physically could not be anything but a ladybug fairy, even if she had been born to parents who wouldn't naturally produce a ladybug. She's got unnaturally good luck, which even helps her natural clumsiness -- she doesn't break things, she never gets accidentally hurt. Tikki is also still Creation, so Marinette is also prone to incredibly intense all-consuming phases of needing to create something, anything
Alya is Touched by Trixx! She's a fox spirit and no matter what she'd have a few fox mannerisms, but her being completely a fox is just a coincidence. She can see through illusions very easily and create major ones that disappear on being touched
Zoé is Aligned with Pollen! She has no extra powers outside of what being a bee fairy gets her: she can fly because she has wings and can mildly paralyze non-sentient creatures up to a certain size, but she only has a sliver of power too small to use
(I've spent the most time worldbuilding Tikki and Plagg/their powers but no one else is aligned with them other than Marinette and Adrien)
*We don't technically have a Cursed member of the cast. There's also a way to improve your kwami connection which is very closely connected to being Cursed so I wanted to put them together here:
Lila is a Touched Acolyte of Trixx! A spirit becomes an Acolyte through a wager and it boosts their powers proportionately to how strong they were at first. Most Acolytes are Aligned because becoming an Acolyte will put them on a more even playing field with people who are Touched, but anyone can become on. Lila's illusions can withstand being touched as long as nothing goes through them, and although she sees through most illusions, a sufficiently good one or one she doesn't look at for too long can still fool her
If an Acolyte breaks the rules of the wager they're bound by, they become Cursed. Someone can also become Cursed naturally, most often through being born that way. Someone who's born Cursed always manifests as a Black Cat spirit, regardless of their heritage. They can hide their black cat features if they want to, which will disable all their cat powers until they reenable them. The Cursed aren't bound to any kwami, and are actually created by either every kwami deciding they don't want the child aligned with them at all, or by the kwami the Cursed is originally bound to cutting ties (usually due to an Acolyte breaking the wager). Cursed spirits have horrible luck and often kill any plants they try to raise
All the kwamis are the same, though what they stand for has been slightly changed in some cases (Trixx/Wayzz has been changed from illusion/protection to intangible/solid or concepts/objects)
So because I'm extra and a multishipper and Miraculous has the perfect setup for the most Horrible Awful Polycules From Hell: spirits actually have a different romance structure than humans do! They're polyamorous by nature but they have a tendency to over-categorize their feelings towards each other. I've split them into four general categories, where you can have one love interest societally in each category
Regular romantic love -- what most people think of when we think of romantic love! Treated with equal importance to everything else. Big focus on working together towards stable life goals* (*marriage/other factors of living together in the real world are irrelevant here and people can move in with whoever)
Emotional support/queerplatonic love -- my awesome society where being queerplatonic is #mandatory. Has a bigger focus on emotionally supporting and regulating each other
Rivalry love -- your average rivals to lovers romance story. Focuses primarily on pushing each other to be the best they can be in everything
Stray cat guy -- no good name for this one I'm still workshopping. All Of These. The stray cat guy is basically someone who inserts themself into any relationship to help regulate them/prevent toxicity. The reason I went "stray cat guy" is based on that one post about a couple trying to get a third guy to relax because they love them romantically and stray cat guy being like "ack" the whole time. That's technically closer than what I've described here: the stray cat can emotionally regulate the other members of whatever type of relationship they've inserted themself into, but occasionally someone in a different kind of relationship adopts the stray cat guy
For Marinette (because it's her post after all) her romance is like this:
Classic romantic love: crush on Adrien/Chat Noir (there is no love square but Chat Noir specifically does exist. I'll elaborate later)
Emotional support love: Alya
Rivarly love: Felix (it's not quite rivarly but it's close enough that she develops a rival-adjacent crush on him that he reciprocates)
Stray cat love: Felix and Kagami with Marinette as the stray cat. It's their relationship she's just kinda Also Here
This AU is also its own specific kind of hell for Marinette specifically because all she wants is a lovely normal relationship x4 and yet Everyone Except Alya is so fucking weird about romance. Specifically the sentikids (Chloé and Zoé are sentikids in this AU) but Luka is also weird because I realized he kinda has to be a little bit.
