Chapter IV

Oh to be a Princess. To have ladies in waiting to chat with all the day is long. To have a chef, to whip up my gastronomic fantasy in a moments notice. A housekeeper and a driver. Oh this would be a grand life - fit for a princess. Of course in modern days, she would have a personal assistant, personal trainer, personal chef, personal shopper…

This is not the life of this Princess. The Evil Queen perhaps? I have never seen inside her glorious but terrifying castle. She sends her man-servant to fetch me when I am needed at her country home. We have never really exchanged words.

Many of you have asked why am I here, in this tower. Why would the Queen take me? In response, I am not sure.

There are times when I think it is just a habit - a custom of sorts. There has always been a victim in the tower. It is also likely to feel power and control over someone.

I do miss the freedom, the big wide world outside the walls of the courtyard. I miss a less drafty home. There is also a sort of security in being in here though, if I can’t get out, not many could get in?

So I will sign off tonight with a question to those who are reading - what kind of princess are you looking for and why a princess? I look forward to reading your replies! Good night! xx

Petite Princess - Chapter III

From the confines of my home in the tower, I have been going over the numerous responses to my last chapter. I must admit that this Princess is feeling a bit down. As I am limited by my location (in the Evil Queen’s tower) I chose to reach out and communicate with the world through this medium. I thought I would work on my written communication skills as well.

It would appear that this is quite offensive to many out there who are looking for a, shall we say ‘quick fix’. This Princess is simply looking to communicate about my life and my day, if there are others who are interested in reading – wonderful. I am interested in making this a two-way communication by using both Twitter and Tumblr. If this is not what you are seeking, I really don’t NEED to know. There are as they say ‘plenty of fish in the sea’ and I would ask that you kindly move on and wish you best of luck finding that which you are seeking.

With that business of the day cleared off my tablet, let’s get back to the life of the Princess living in a rather drafty and damp tower.

I woke rather early this morning with my trusty dog snuggled up to me (for warmth I believe) and two cats wrapped around my legs. I rushed to make some hot coffee and the dog and I descended from the tower to the small courtyard below where the dog and I walk. We marvelled at the leaves that have started to fall from the trees – a few red ones were spotted. I managed to find an old skipping rope in the tower and attempted to jump rope, I failed miserably at this! It seems the rope is perhaps too short? I could manage to jump once (and only one time did I manage to jump twice), the cord would get caught in my ponytail and I would start again. The dog however thought this was amazing – and tried to catch the rope, which did not assist me in any way. We will try again tomorrow.

The dog arrived on the scene last summer, he is not a young fellow and he has several limitations – one being a leg injury, he cannot jump or run, if he does he spends several days walking on only three legs. I suspect this is an injury resulting from his time with the Evil Queen. We have to be very careful when we are out walking. He does seem to be very happy in my company, as I am with his.

The tower is equipped with very long steep spiraling stairs, a courtyard with very high stone walls – which we cannot see over. Inside the courtyard are several very old trees and a bench. On the top floor of the tower (much like a lighthouse) there is a small living space with a kitchen area, living room and a small bedroom. I am lucky to have a wonderful old bed that looks fit for a princess. The stone tower is very drafty and damp and another winter here is a very depressing thought indeed. I keep dream of exploring the west coast and its rainforests and National Parks or the deep south of the US with all its history.

I spend my days doing yoga, reading and writing. Visiting far off lands via the web browser I must admit have become a bit of an addiction as well as looking at photos on Pinterest! I have a camera here with me in the tower and along with improving my writing I hope to capture some beautiful photos. I do spend a fair amount of time taking pictures; unfortunately my only subjects are the dog and the two cats!

So there you have it, a day in the life of a Princess – to all the wonderful ‘Knights in Shining Armour’ or such, I think I will call it a day. We will venture down to the courtyard for our evening walk, and search for a little enchantment to end this somewhat gloomy day. I am hoping to find ‘kinder’ messages in my inbox tomorrow!

Feeling Nostalgic for a roadtrip past

I am watching The Roosevelts on PBS (part II), they are currently showing images of many of the parks I passed through on a solo road trip in 2010. I hope one day, I will have the chance to explore more of the wonderful National Parks both in Canada and the US. Feeling nostalgic.

Chapter II (finally)

Dear potential Prince or Knight in Shining Armor, 

I am so sorry for the long delay in my next chapter. The Evil Queen had a party at her summer residence, way up North. Due to a failing economy (and her very disagreeable personality), there is a shortage of staff, to cater to the Queen's every whim. This story is starting to take on a Cinderella theme. My services were needed to clean up the summer residence and get it ready for her guests. 

This Cinderella story does not have a glass slipper though. There was no Fairy God-Mother, magic pumpkin or mice. Just a lawn mower, a rake, a broom (which did not fly, although I suspect it to be a mode of transport for the Queen) a mop and bucket, oh and a feather duster! By the end of preparations I was so exhausted. The Queen locked me up in the root cellar in order to ensure I did not escape or become known to her guests. I fell asleep on some sacks of grains, not the most comfortable spot, but I was so tired, sleep came easy. 

Last night we returned to the castle and I to my prison in the tower. There was a silver lining - no more cleaning and back to having WIFI. 

There were some questions after the first chapter was circulated on the internet, I will do my best to answer them. 

Is this a book that I am writing - perhaps if it works out, I have never written a book before but I would be open to at least an e-book? This is simply a story of a princess cut off from life, locked away (perhaps a metaphor) looking to connect with people. Perhaps find a way out of this tower.

Why is the queen keeping me locked up in this tower - good question, I am not too sure why? She does not really speak to me. I receive my cleaning orders by her footman or the occasional email. Maybe we can explore that together?

I was also asked how long my hair was. As I have no beauty services here in the tower, my hair is desperate need of a trim, but it is mid-way down my back. I have dark brown hair that has a mind of its own, when it is tamed it can be straight, but it has a tendency to be quite curly or wavy. This Princess could really use a pampering spa day though.

I do have three friends here with me (however I have yet to discover any magical powers in any of them but they seem to like me quite a lot. There is a big dog and two cats that do not seem to like each other very much. 

They have certainly become much cuddlier as the weather has taken a certain turn towards autumn and we are all very chilly here in the tower!

A fairytail from a petite princess (Chapter I)

Once upon a time in a land far, far away (well not really) there was a petite and lovely princess.

The princess was also known as the Eclectic French Girl. Why, you ask? To start she was the combination of an English father and a (future separatist) French speaking mother. This in itself should provide enough for the title eclectic, but it does not end there. She was also the black sheep of the family; literally, she was often told that if she was put in a snowsuit in the basement for the summer -- she would still be darker than the rest of the family. There were often comments about her being the child of the milkman. Oh but it just didn't stop there. The Eclectic French Girl (EFG) or princess, just was not the same as the other kiddos, she had odd taste in music, film, art, and literature. She had some very obscure hobbies, long distance swimming and winter camping to name a few.

A few years ago the princess caught the attention of the Evil Queen of said province. The EFG was apprehended and locked away in a very tall tower attached to the Evil Queen's castle. The Evil Queen loved to play games on the internet and had fabulous WIFI installed in her castle -- thankfully for the Princess as she had managed to secure an old iPad with a magic battery (that never ran out).

As the princess waited in her tower, she wondered if she would ever manage to escape the Evil Queen and her tower of doom! One day the princess started to think that maybe she could share her story with strangers on the internet and drum up some attention to her situation. She wondered if there were enough courageous knight-like individuals who might help her out.
