During the Summer 2017 the Non-Anthropocentric Design Studio will work on the techniques of Biotecture Design and will design a naturally built ecological neighbourhood.
The final display and presentation of the Non-Anthropocentric Urban Design Studio was held in the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Fine Arts at Girne American University and participants presented their works.
A presentation of our Non-anthropocentric Urban design Studio was held today as part of the workshop of GENOESE GAZES ABOUT GIRNE, a joint programme of the UniversitĂ di Genova and Girne American University. The title of our seminar was "Re-Imagining a Non-Anthropocentric Kyrenia".
Working around a 1/5000 scale model of Kyrenia, participants of the Non-Anthropocentric Urban Design Studio developed 50 tips for the ecocentric urban design of the city.
Participants of the Non-Anthropocentric Urban Design Studio selected 100 diverse species of Kyrenia as their stakeholders. The Ecocentric Design for Kyrenia will be developed according to the needs of these 100 species.
Dr. Can Kara, the Urban Planner of the City of Kyrenia participated in the Non-Anthropocentric Urban Design Studio. Dr. Kara give a seminar on the latest works of the Kyrenia Master Plan.
The news of the panel of “Urban Politics in Cyprus” was widely shared with the community in diverse local newspapers.
As part of our Non-anthropocentric Urban Design studio we are organizing a symposium on Urban Politics in Cyprus. The under-secretary of the ministry of Tourism and Environment, the Mayor of Nicosia, the Head of the office of City Planning, The president of the chamber of Urban Planners, the members of Bi-Communal Nicosia Master Plan, the lecturers of three different universities in Urban Planning, Urban Design and Architecture, members of NGOs and local authorities will participate as the speakers.
As part of sharing environment of the studio and its awareness making role the news related to the “City for Bats workshop” widely published in the local newspapers.Â
“City for Bats” workshop was held on the 14th of February 2017 at Girne American University. This workshop organized as the warm up activity of the 4th year design studio in the B.Arch. degree program with the title of “Non-Anthropocentric Urban Design Studio”. In addition to myself and Dr. Senem Zeybekoğlu, we invited Mr. Tuğberk Emirzade from the Cyprus Biologists Association and Mr. Kenan Güvenç as the guest lecturers to take part in this workshop. Mr. Emirzade in his lecture shared information on the life and characteristics of bats and conclude his speech with introducing 18 species of bats living in Cyprus. Mr. Güvenç was the second speaker of the event and he discussed on anthropocentric perceptions and its challenges with special focus on architecture and urbanism. 32 participated students in the workshop established groups to collaboratively develop bats friendly strategies for cities in Cyprus. They made their presentations at the end of the workshop.
In the first week of the “Non-anthropocentric Urban Design Studio”, as the warm up project, on Tuesday the 14th of February 2017, we organize a workshop with the topic of “City for Bats”. Mr. Tuğberk Emirzade from Cyprus Biologists Association and Mr. Kenan Güvenç will take part as the guest lecturers in this workshop.
Non-Anthropocentrc Urban Design Studio is a 4th year architectural design studio in the architecture bachelor degree program at Girne American University. The studio is found and taught by Dr. Hossein Sadri and Dr. Senem Zeybekoglu Sadri associate professors of architecture at the same university with the collaboration of more than fourty people and organization from a very diverse range of academic, governmental and non-governmental organizations and participation of over thirty students. The design studio aims to introduce a biocentric and ecocentric urbanization strategies and develop design solutions for the cohabitation of living beings. In the Spring 2016-2017 academic semester, the design studio works in the greater Kyrenia district. Â
