Andromeda smiled at the interaction between the two before getting her daughter’s attention and pointing up at the sky so Nymphadora would see the fireworks. “The only reason she likes it is because between everyone here the only time she was set down was less than an hour ago to go to bed. She’s had so much attention and I wouldn’t be surprised if she somehow got sick from be handled so much.”

“I don’t know. She seemed to enjoy the attention most of the time, especially when it was coupled with people excited about her hair changing colour,” Ted said as he turned around to watch the fireworks too. “Do you think we should’ve spent more time with her today since we won’t have her around the next few days?”

Andromeda nodded, staying quiet for a little while before she moved away from him. “I’ll be right back.” She walked inside, heading up the stairs to the nursery before picking up her sleeping daughter who was tucked away in the crib. She wrapped Nymphadora up so she wouldn’t get cold and then went back outside to where Ted was, their daughter slowly waking up in her arms as she looked up at the fireworks. “She can be up past her bedtime tonight. I’m sure she’ll love this, plus she’ll probably sleep in easier for your parents tomorrow morning.”

Ted waited idly with his hands in his pocket until Andromeda resurfaced with Nymphadora in tow. He nodded at Andromeda, fully trusting that she knew what she was doing with Nymphadora’s sleeping schedule. He bent down to give their tiny daughter a kiss on the forehead and he let her minuscule hand wrap around his index finger. “I suppose it’s a big day for you as well, young lady.”

“No, I did not think to do that. I am not your mother so it is not my job to make sure you get to places at the right time every single day, but I am allowed to bug you about it because it does bother me.” Andromeda smiled down slightly at her daughter and instead of handing her the watch she handed her a piece of the colorful wrapping paper which seemed to hold her interest, but then she put it in her mouth. “No, Nymphadora. You are going to have to outgrow the habit of putting everything in your mouth.” When she took away the paper Nymphadora started to get fussy, but Andromeda started to bounce her on her lap a bit which seemed to do the trick. “No, I have not. Shakespeare sounds familiar, so I assume you’ve brought it up before.”

“Hmm... Well, I guess it’ll be helpful anyway. We’ll see, I suppose,” he told Andromeda with a nod as she tried to assuage Dora after taking away the wrapping. He took the ribbon that his gift had been tied up with and he made it into a bow that fit right around Dora’s wrist. It seemed to distract her, but he just hoped she wouldn’t try to chew on that as well. “I’m not sure; I might’ve. But Dad loves his work so I’m familiar with a lot of his popular quotes.”

Andromeda wrapped her arms around his neck, threading her fingers into his hair. She ignored the fact that by now others had started to come outside when the fireworks and instead moved as close to him as possible; just because she wanted to be close to him and because she was cold. “Mmm, I love you,” she mumbled, pressing another quick kiss to his lips even when he pulled back. Afterward she turned her gaze up to the sky, still staying close to him as she did. “Do you think Dora has fallen asleep yet?”

Noticing the people who had joined them out for the fireworks didn’t make Ted change anything about how he was holding Andromeda. “I love you too,” he told her with a grin after she kissed him again. “I don’t know. I hope not, but I’d be surprised if she’s still awake.”

“It is the first word I came up with, so it will do for now.” Andromeda rest her hands on his arms that were still around her, nodding at his next words. “Yes. A bit more than nice.” She smiled now and turned around in his arms when he spoke again, leaning up and pausing right before their lips touched. “If you wanted to just kiss me you should have said something.” She grinned now right before pressing her lips to his.

He kept his arms around her as she turned to face him for a kiss. He returned the kiss passionately, leaning down a bit so that Andromeda wouldn’t have to stand on the tips of her toes. He tugged her towards him so that there was no space between them, and the only presence he could feel beside Andromeda’s was that of the loud crackling fireworks. “This was me saying something about it,” he said as he pulled away from the kiss.

Andromeda shifted the box beside her as she held her daughter in her lap with one arm, waiting for Ted to open his before she touched her own gifts yet. She was too much like a kid on Christmas morning, though she wasn’t as bad as she used to be. It was the only day she was excited to wake up early in the morning. “I am allowed to dream, aren’t I? I think if you tried it would prove to be of some use and may help if you remember to bring it with you,” she said, then slowly started to unwrap her presents from him and smiled as she examined each one. “I bet you thought you were funny when you got this.” She smiled, her gaze moving to Ted as she picked up the mug.

Ted ruffled Dora’s green hair as she flapped her arms around excitedly, and he couldn’t help but wonder if she could tell that it’s a special day. “Well, I’ll keep it on the dresser so I’ll always have it on me, but it’s not going to make me get to places on time... Unless you’ve charmed it to apparate me to wherever you are whenever you want. That might actually work.” He saw Dora stretch her hands out towards the shiny watch. “It’s not funny. It’s literary. Speaking of which, have you read any Shakespeare?”

Andromeda leaned back against him when he wrapped his arms around her, smiling a little to herself. Her gaze moved up to the sky even though the fireworks weren’t going off yet, but the sky was clear so it was even nice just to look up at the stares.·“With getting married?” she asked, turning her head just a little to look at him.·“I suppose it’s nice.” Andromeda was teasing him now and right after she spoke she jumped a little at the sound of the fireworks going off.·“Please don’t harm yourselves or set anything on fire,” she mumbled more to herself than him.

“’Nice’ is one word for it,” Ted mumbled and gave her a peck on the cheek, ignoring the massive understatement. “We’ve still got some time to make sure it’s a bit better than nice, no?” He pulled her closer to him as the fireworks started. “No one’s gonna set anything on fire, love. I think you should be more concerned about our New Year’s kiss.”

“Other stuff?” She mused, though Andromeda nodded in agreement. “We’ll see. It depends if you’re able to charm me tonight.” She smiled at him and when this song ended she stepped back, having enough of something that resembled dancing. “It’s almost midnight. The fireworks should be going off soon.” She took his hand, walking with him outside and wrapping her arms around herself as she stepped out into the cold air.

"Oh, thank God," Ted said with a sigh of relief as Andromeda stopped dancing. In all his excitement, Ted had completely lost track of time and he had even forgotten that it was New Year's Eve and that there were going to be fireworks. He followed Andromeda out and stood behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his chin over her shoulder. The weather was definitely too cold for his liking, but the white covered landscape was way too beautiful. "You've got to admit that it's such an interesting way to start a new year."

“One of my friends from Hogwarts was muggleborn and when I went to his house over summer break his telly was sadly broken. Never got the chance to turn it on, but he told me all about it and it’s hard to believe it’s really true.”

"Oh well, that's too bad. I only get to watch it when I visit my parents, but you know what? Once they invent portable tellies that don't need electricity to work, which I'm sure they will, I'll be the first in line to buy one."

She wasn’t exactly sure why she said anything to him, but after she let the words slip she couldn’t exactly just turn around and run away. Andromeda should have upon realizing someone was up here, but she had to comment about the smoking. It was something she knew he did every now and again, but it wasn’t something he did around her because she hated it and never wanted to be too close to him afterwards.

Perhaps Andromeda spoke to him because one of his friends walked right up to her in the middle of the corridor full of people and said, not very discreetly, that their mutual friend wasn’t doing so hate as of late. The incident landed him a pumpkin for a head as she walked off, brushing off the incident with a very rude comment in French like she had no idea what he was talking about. She did of course, but she wasn’t about to talk about Ted in front of people. It wasn’t the smartest move on his part.

Ever since then she more or less wondered a bit as to why exactly Ted wasn’t doing so well, but only when her thoughts accidentally slipped back towards Ted. She did a better job than she thought she’d be able to when it came to not thinking about him, even when she was told Ted wasn’t handling it well. She figured that just meant he was cranky for a day or two and was better, but at the moment he just seemed angry.

At his comment however, Andromeda frowned, crossing her arms over her chest. “You’re insulting yourself because…you’re angry with me?” She guessed, raising a dark brow in his direction even though his back was facing her. “I never thought you had a death wish. I always just figured there was something wrong with you. I suppose both are likely enough.”

Ted took another long breath of smoke and expelled it from his lungs slowly as Andromeda talked. He was never really too sarcastic around her, but that day he was bitter. He wasn't surprised when Andromeda didn't note the sarcasm is his tone, which was laced with enough anger and gloom that probably made it hard to detect. But then again, maybe something really was wrong with Ted. Maybe he was good at finding all sorts of wrong things and people to get attached to.

He finally decided that he wanted to turn around and face her. He put his cigarette out against the wall, but kept it in his hand. He had to discard it with discretion later.

She looked the same as always, put together and perfect. She looked so normal that he began to wonder if she was sad at all about their separation. On the other hand, he was disheveled more than usual. He hadn't bothered to straighten out his clothes the past few days; he repeatedly ran a furious hand through his hair, making it stick out in every direction.

"I'm angry about a lot of things and I'm stressed because of the damn exams. This is the way I'm coping with it, alright?" He tucked a hand into his pocket. "And you should get used to that word again. I bet it'll be used a lot around you from now on."

He didn't like that he smoked. Not one bit. And his father would probably kill him if he knew. It was a bad habit he'd picked up from his cousins one summer, but until that week, he had thought he had gotten over it. There was always Andromeda keeping him busy at night or between classes, and he could talk to her about anything that was bothering him. But when she was no longer an option and all the frustration kicked in, this was the only way he could think of to relieve it.

“I wasn’t aware you had an option.” Andromeda smiled right before he spun her underneath his arm. “If anything was to go wrong Dora would come with me and you would maybe get her on weekends.” She shrugged, not really knowing because she didn’t think about what would happen if they got a divorce or their wedding night. “If anything happens to your face what little charm you have would be completely gone and I’m not sure if I’d make it up to you. Maybe fix it, but I don’t think I’d maim it because I like looking at your face.”

“I feel like you should’ve explained these terms before we got married. It’s unfair,” Ted pouted at Andromeda. He wasn’t being serious at all, but he couldn’t help but suspect that she was, on some level at least. “Also, why are we even talking about this? We just got married. I wanna talk about other stuff.” He grinned at her and continued to move carefully in a circle. “So if we’ve established that my pretty face is staying pretty and will continue to charm you, can we chuck the dance classes idea out?”

“Electricity! That’s it. And the telly is the box that produces moving pictures, correct? I know it’s not magic, but it’s almost like it is with the way they find a way to make things work.”

Ted nodded, surprised by the bloke’s enthusiasm about muggle things. “Muggles are really smart. And yes, you’ve got the telly right. Have you actually ever watched it?”

Andromeda was good at ignoring things until they became a probably in the immediate present. Actually, she was a prodigy at that because she thought about other things to keep her mind busy. She’s been doing that ever since she was young and she couldn’t be more thankful that she was able to distract herself from Ted. It took more work than she’d like to admit, but it was doable. Mainly she just didn’t allow herself to settle down and think for too long.

There was more time with Emma and Vincent spent, along with her sisters and Sirius, and she especially made sure Sirius didn’t bring up Ted. The one time he said Ted’s name he was cut off with a very harsh glare that told him if he wished to see tomorrow he would drop the subject before it even started, so she was safe.

When she passed Ted in the corridor or shared a same class she didn’t go out of her way to avoid even looking at him because that would show she was trying too hard to get past this. So Andromeda made it look easy, not looking at him but not making it look like she was avoiding him too much either even if she never spoke a word to him. No, if she had it her way things would be much easier if they did not speak ever again. She used to think she hardly saw Ted at all through the day, but now that she didn’t want to see him he was everywhere. It was maddening.

After a particularly stressful class, Andromeda made her way up to the Astronomy Tower with a book in her hand and the intent of clearing her head for the day. When she noticed someone was up there she was about to tell them they were dismissed because she did not want company, but she stopped before she could even open her mouth once she noticed who the person was. She was about to turn around and walk away because that would make things easier, but she refused to reverse her plans because of him.

Her eyes settled on the cigarette and she raised an eyebrow. “I was not aware you reduced to killing yourself.” Her tone was cold, keeping most emotion out of the way.

Ted didn’t even bother to turn around to see who had come into the Astronomy Tower. He just stood there, leaning against the window, blowing smoke outside. But when he heard the person speak to him, he didn’t even need to turn around to know that it was Andromeda. He really should have picked places that they didn’t frequent together. Nonetheless, they used to plan their meetings together so painstakingly that he knew which places were empty and when.

He only glanced in her direction for a second. If he had looked for any longer, he might have had to touch her or kiss her or do something just as desperate or stupid.When she criticised him for smoking, he was hardly surprised. But there was something unusual about her tone, as if she would say the same thing to anyone else she would have caught smoking.

He blew some more smoke out before he said dryly, “Really? I’m a Mudblood who dated a Pureblood. And not just any Pureblood, no, a Black. I’d say it’s obvious I have a death wish.”

When Ted almost stepped on her feet she stepped back just a bit to avoid it, but other than that she continued to dance with him. Even when the song ended and the next one started she didn’t stop just because she wasn’t ready to yet. “Yes, well, just remember marrying me was a binding contract that will end in death if you try to get out of it. I’m allowed to leave whenever I please of course.” She smiled teasingly at him with that. “Because if you ever want to potentially charm me you’d learn to dance better. I’m only keeping you as my dance partner now because you have a nice face.”

Ted frowned at Andromeda as she explained the terms of their binding contract. "Okay, let's say that I agree with these odd terms... What exactly happens to Dora when you leave as you please?" He spun her around carefully then said, "My face is going to stay nice for a while... Unless you maim it or something, in which case, you'd have to make things up to me, not the other way around!"

The first morning after his breakup with Andromeda, Ted woke up (not that he had really got any sleep that night) and decided that this could be a good thing. Now, he could focus on helping the Hufflepuff Quidditch team as much as he can between classes, instead of hiding in stuffy broom closets. He could spend all the time after dinner on studying and preparing for his NEWTs. He knew Andromeda wasn't a just a fling, but perhaps he could deal with it as though she was.

This mindset worked quite well for a days. He spent his entire Saturday studying in the common room, except for a couple of hours where he was on the pitch, too busy trying to put together a game strategy to bother with feelings.

It was working. It worked so well until he saw her in class on Monday morning, and all the anger and disappointment came rushing back. He heard nothing during class, not one thing. The back of Andromeda's head was distracting him. Her presence in the room made him want to get up and punch every Slytherin in the room, just for the hell of it. After class, he headed out to the astronomy tower and pulled out a box of cigarettes from his bag. Packing it that morning was a good decision on his behalf. 

A week later, it has become a routine. He would finish classes and come spend the time until dinner huffing his frustration out in the form of smoke halos. And that day was no different.

“Is it important?” Arthur asked, looking up at the person who walked near him. “I’ve learned a new thing about eckeltricity. It’s rather fascinating that muggles can plug something into the wall with a long rope looking thing and it makes something work like magic, but it isn’t magic. I have no idea how it works.”

 Ted frowned at the man, befuddled by his rudimentary understanding of electricity. “If you’re talking about electricity, it definitely isn’t magic. But it does make the telly work, and that’s kind of magic.”
