this is a short video showing the cucumber anamtronic in action.
After researching zoos, I decided I would come up with 2 information signs giving more context behind the information about the genetically modified organisms I had created. i used research into the science behind GMO’s to make the signs more accurate.
this is a test animation for my FMP Using stop motion techniques.
For my FMP, I also investigated the use of anamatronic in film and television and I decided to create my own, in the form of a cucmber, I used silicone and a electric motor from a robotraptor toy to enable the cucumber to move
i was lucky enough that the local science block in collage had there very own pet axolotl which i was allowed to draw my favourite is the page full of different angles of the axolotl.
I am very pleased with the outcome of the banana squid model, I went with a colour scheme that represented the natural colour scheme of a banana.
to create my model of a banana squid i first made molds of tentacles, arms and its head using latex and modrock. I then placed a wire in the mold and filled it with silicone to create a silicone cast, i repeated this process with the other molds till i had 8 tentacles, 4 arms, 1 head, 1 beak. to fix them together I pushed the overlaying wires into the head mold and sealed the parts together with another layer of silicone. I then tried using a silicone based paint call psycho paint to paint the mold but it didn't stick to the mold. so i came up with a idea of coating the outside with latex to in case the silicone paint which worked.
For more primary research I bought a dead squid so i could understand the anatomy of the squid better
For research into my FMP I visited the Bristol Aquarium for inspiration into designing my genetically modified organism
By using water colour paints I painted the mandrake plaster cast, to emphasis the indents and marks I made in the mold. I was originally planning on using fake leaves, but I ended up collecting some ivy leaves and coating them with PVA to try and slow down there decay. I attached the leaves with super glue, I also glued on a cut out circle to fit in the top of the pot which I covered with soil. I am happy with the final result but if I was to repeat this I would use a ceramic pot instead of a plastic one.
for my pathway project titled news I was inspired by the story of Bill Maher making a joke about trump being the child of a orangutan, and because trump was a big part of the news I decided to make a giant puppet of orangutan wearing a trump mask and suit because in my view trump is just a ape in a suit. i am very happy with the final outcome unfortunately the material is to heavy so the wire wasn't strong enough to hold the arms so it is hard to position them.
For a college trip I visited the Warner Bros Tour, Harry potter Studios. Where we got to see the real magic behind the the scenes of the Harry Potter movies. What caught my eye the most was the sculptures of the mandrakes and the animatronics inside the props used in the movies. There was also the concept art for the mandrake in the herbology class of second year students.
This is my complete animation which i titled “the Orange” the music is a remix of the song “ Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines”
I then made a model head inspired by the work of Giacometti.
My first workshop we learnt how to create models of heads.
For the first project on the art foundation course, we had to create a costume completely out of cardboard for the cardboard catwalk. Our group decided to create a cat for our costume.
