Demons are a common theme in the festivals of northern Japan -- an area rich in demon lore. This is part of a float in the Hachinohe summer festival in Aomori Pref.
Oni Kembai Dancers in Iwate Prefecture. Traditionally the demons of Kitakami would come out from the mountains to dance in the valleys. These were warrior demons and they dance with swords as well as the fans in their battle gear, their long hair bound high on their head out of the way.
Toshogu Temple, Ueno Park. Toshogu is dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the wily Shogun who shaped Japan’s history of exclusion. His temple is considered a Power Spot for people who wish to achieve their goal no matter what it takes! Be careful what you wish for, there may be consequences.
Toshogu Shrine in Ueno Park (not to be confused with Toshogu in Nikko) has been completely restored and covered in hundreds of thousands of dollars of gold leaf. Though it costs one younsand yen to enter (about $9) it is seriously worth it!

Crowds of dark-suited business people waiting for their company's blessing ceremony and couples holding hands lining up to buy romance charms. Instead of fearsome gaurdian dmeons to keep away evil spirits, Hie Jinja has this completely unique set of male and femal monkeys in splendiid robes. The monkey’s are linked via a play on words to the Kami (spirit/god) of this shrine.
Instead of the traditional Lion Dogs (Koma Inu) guarding the entrance to the shrine, HIe Jinja has a male and female monkey on either side. The monkey is linked to the Kami of this shrine and is a s ymbol of happiness in marriage. Hie Jinja is in Akasakamitsuke, Tokyo.

The Kiyomas Oda Well at Tokyo’s Meiji Shrine near Harajuku Station. This spring is considered one of the city’s strongest Power Spots. On a fine weekend, people wait twenty to thirty minutes for their turn to touch the water and make their wish. It’s also a tradition to take a picture of the well to keep the good luck flowing. Many people load it onto their cell phone screen so every time they turn on their phone, the power is renewed.

O-Ana Sama, which literally means holy hole or cave. The priests carved this for the fox spirits they felt were displaced when Gojoji Temple was built. Not wishing to anger the God's messengers, they created a separate shrine and bolt hole for foxes real or imagined. Foxes protect the shrine against demons and evil entering. Losing them would be a bad thing.
Off topic but.....At the Cup Noodle Museum in Yokohama (Yes, they have one) visitors can design their own Cup Noodle container than custom mix their own noodle creation. After, it's packaged in a big plastic bubble.
Meiji Shrine: The braided rice straw rope, shimegawa, is found at every Shinto Shrine. These beautiful creations ward off and protect against evil.
