I WILL BE KEEPING IT SHORT AND SWEET THOUGH
Svsss Modern fantasy Au where magic has been slowly leaving the world because it’s dependent on belief. As humanity advances in machinery and technology magic’s slowly become a thing of dreams.
Enter Xiang Fei who’s just learning how to live alone. He doesn’t know what to do with his life and since he’s 18 and his parents are no longer legally obligated to care for him any longer, the money’s been slowly getting tighter. His lease is almost up and he figures that it’s time for a fresh start. Moving somewhere his family can’t find them—not that they’ll ever look for him.
He moves into a smaller apartment that’s at the foot of some auspicious mountain. Cool. The rents pretty cheap and if he needs inspiration for his writing hobby he can take a look outside at the people and tourists buzzing about below.
Life is… plain. He’s an 18 year old living on his own, there’s not much one can expect. Things get rocky at times, and Xiang Fei’s gotten pretty close to going up the mountain and just praying.
And you know what, one time it does get that bad. Xiang Fei’s gotten pretty goes up the mountain for a quick trip, right as the sun’s beginning to set. It’s a quick prayer to bring his luck up… except he gets lost on the way, and meets a fox caught in a trap. Maybe hoping for some good fortune, maybe out of the goodness of his heart, XF decides to try and help it. The fox however, is not so grateful. It lunges at him, teeth bared—only stopping short of his neck because of weakness rather than gratitude.
XF is stunned, obviously so. He almost lost his life trying to do something good. Before he can scare the fox off and hurry home he hears a voice.
“Humans. Tainting this mountain with your machinery isn’t enough? Have you come here to claim your kill? I will not die without a fight.”
A vicious voice sounded out. XF could only stare at the fox in shock, watching as the hazy fog that began to settle over the mountain blurred its form. One moment he was seeing a fox, the next he was seeing a man crouched on all fours. The fox-man-creature lunges at him once more, stumbling as the wound on its leg began to take its toll.
Another miss.
It stumbles to the ground, growling spitefully as it watches Xiang Fei, willing him to come closer so it can sink its teeth into him.
…
WHY DO I ALWAYS HAVE BANGER IDEAS WHEN I’M FALLING ASLEEP?
AUGH okay the fox is Shen Jiu and XF who feels pity for him does set him free after SJ steels himself, expecting death when he’s too weak to fight back. Because he doesn’t like to owe a debt he asks XF what he wants. XF, feeling the sudden strike of inspo after months of writer’s block, is like “what are you? Tell me your story”
So SJ tells him about how magic is fading and nobody cares enough and stuff. He tells XF about his jies that’ve been hunted by humans for centuries. He spills many stories—mostly tragedies—to XF. XF tries to sympathize but SJ gets upset and ends the interaction, returning to the forest and telling XF that he’s (XF) made his request so the debt is repaid.
XF goes home and he writes a story about a fox spirit falling in love with a human. It’s a tragic angsty tale that gets super popular and starts a whole trend about praying for the fox spirit to find its lover once more, believing that doing so will help people meet the love of their lives.
Word gets around and suddenly mythical creatures are visiting XF, hoping he’ll spread their story too…..
Or something
Sorry it’s 7 am my eyes are closing I am much drowsier than normal
