After World war two, Soviet Union switched to an improved version of a twin-piston airliner, the Ilyushin il-12, later to its modified version il-14. Manufacturing of both il-12 and il-14 was in enormous quantity as per the demand of usage by Soviet Civil and Military Service and by Soviet client states. McDonnell Douglas DC-8 is a four-engine jet airliner developed by Douglas Aircraft in the 1950s. Deliveries began in autumn of 1959 with the distribution of the first aircraft to Delta Airlines, and United Airlines during the following year.
