Fuck It! Lets do this thing!!
It was one of those Saturdays when the kids had been quite hard work and we were both ready for a couple of bottles or so of decent red....as always, all the best plans are made with the assistance of excess Cabernet Sauvignon !!
A list was drawn up of stuff to do to get out of this soul crushing corporate rat race.... from making curtains, reading tarot (both of which the other half has a great aptitude for) to selling jewellery, making Xmas doggy hampers.. to being an escort or doing our own sex chat lines... you name it, we listed it!
We both like the idea of selling stuff, something I have done for years, I used to sell stuff on eBay and make a decent few quid from it - back in the day when you had to code the html to put the descriptions in bold or italics and with paragraph breaks!
A few months earlier, I’d been chatting to one of my mates that I’d know for nigh on 20 years and he was doing great stuff with an eBay business.... like, really well....so combined with my previous foray, the seed was planted...
All that was left was to decide what we would sell...which meant a few more evenings and a few more bottles of wine!
Something we both liked and had an interest in, something that would enrich our customers lives, but also something that would sell and would not necessarily be affected by the economy or suchlike
Somehow we narrowed it down to three things... which then became one!
The idea was floated past a few trusted (and open minded) close friends, family, colleagues and associates.... and without a single negative response, and plenty of encouragement we kept looking at each other and saying “shall we do this thing?”
Days and weeks of “what if’s”, and “how” and everything in between, trying to explore all the downsides and pitfalls we would have to overcome...
I had sold some old stuff on eBay again and thought I’d ask my mate how much I should be paying for postage on a fairly big parcel..after all, he had a full on business going and would know....
Turns out in the time we had been deliberating starting this little business, he had doubled the size of his..
At some point, we just said “Fuck it!” Lets do it..
