No, no no no, no. She meant to yell it, scream it at the top of her lungs— say something but she couldn’t. It was too much. It was too much pain, it was too much pressure pushing down on her chest choking her and she couldn’t do anything. She was completely powerless. Helpless. He made her helpless. What was worse was that some small part of her knew Edward was right. She was weak, and she wasn’t going to make it. And that would have been okay, it would have but not when it meant losing Corey too because she cared about him more than she did herself. He was needed so much more than she was and she couldn’t be responsible for taking him away, away from his family, his friends. Ruby. God, Ruby.
It happened without her even realising. One second she was gasping for air she didn’t necessarily need, choking on her own silent screams, the noise— the pain, the pounding— crushing down on her and his voice. A whisper filled with the manipulative edge she fell so easily for, and then nothing.
Quiet. Stillness. Everything was so still, and clear. A wave of crystal clear clarity settled inside of her as her crying seized and her hands fell from her face slowly, purposefully before she tilted her head upwards, her eyes glancing over Corey before she rose to her feet. Nothing. It was almost confusing for a moment but she longed for more of it. More of the quiet, the clarity— a real weight had been lifted from her shoulders, from her heart that now felt lighter than it had in months— than it had since the night she was turned. Finally she could appreciate it. The strength, the power that was beating through her veins. Finally, she felt no hatred, no disdain, no fear towards what she was. She was a vampire.
Tilting her head ever so slightly she looked Corey over— nope, nothing. A staggering, freeing amount of nothing especially compared to just a few moments ago— and then to Edward.
"So? Is the show over? Are you going to kill him or can I be excused now?"
J-Jess? Please. -the painful realization of what just happened sinks in- Come back. Come- don’t. Don’t do this. Please.
-lets go of Corey so the boy collapses in a bloody mess on the floor- Consider yourself excused. Have fun.
