The 1920’s were tough. They were painful. Being a newly turned vampire was, in Corey’s mind, a torment too much to bare. He loved being human, and this? How was this considered life? The battle between simultaneously wanting to rip out his own heart and everyone else’s? It wasn’t right, and it didn’t take long before it became too much and suddenly, without much warning, the torment was gone. The questioning of morals and ethics? The yearn to be human again? Gone. It was freedom. He woke up free. New. Clear.

He left his brothers, Alex and Chris, without as much as a second thought to their future. He respected their brotherly bond but he didn’t need them, nor want them, to be part of his new life. He was on a path and there would be no one standing in his way. For over a century Corey had made a life out of bloodshed. That was what he wanted and that was what he enjoyed, and he killed with pure devotion. Obsession. He thought Chris would appreciate the art of it but to him it might lack that sense of… humanity?

A century passed and though Corey never felt lonely, he found he lacked someone to share his interests with. Was it not a point in life to share your wealth? In recent times he’d often found himself picking victims with great intent but never followed through with turning them. He just couldn’t get it right. They didn’t satisfy him. Then he found Jessica Harvelle in California. She was grand, even as a human. She was potential. Soon, she was also his protégé. His partner. His little sidekick.

Jess turned Maggie Lewis. Now this was unexpected, and though Corey wasn’t entirely happy about it at first he could appreciate the extension. As it turns out, eternal life is more fun when shared. Besides, this wasn’t his project, it was Jess’. By the rumour of a war, the happy little family of three decided to hole up in Kreagan for an undecided amount of time, and Corey is more than curious to know of Jess’ former human life. Who are her friends? Who can he rip apart first? Exciting.

But he’s a cat. Well of course you can’t, I’m Jessica Harvelle. I’m irresistible. Irreplaceable, I mean irreplaceable. Oh I don’t know, I could do with some new lingerie. We could go shopping. —Kidding, sour kitty cat. I’m still here, Corey. See? Right in front of you. No tricks, no hack. You haven’t lost me, you just can’t accept me. You’re welcome. Uh huh. Haven’t you caught on yet? Everything is a game. Yes, I remember. You [resting her fingertip on his chin] love me, [and removing it] but you don’t want me.

Irreplaceable. You’re not though. You’re not Jessica Harvelle. Jess was still a person. You look like her and you talk as if you know her but she’s not there. It took a lot to admit that... that I think she’s gone. Not forever, but she is just.. buried so deep. You’ve buried her so deep. I’ve been adamant that if I can just reach out to her she’ll come back, but obviously I can’t. She’s the one I’m getting back and you’re the one I’m getting rid of, or at east supressing. [sighing in frustration because let it rest Jess] And is that a problem? That I don’t want you? You seem so insitent that I should.

interview-with-a-dave :

Right… Yeah, I knew that. [How did one tell their BFF that they almost died without even shooting them a text? Had Dave been anyone else he may have taken more than half a breath to come up with a little more tactful] I almost died. Y’know, recently. Werewolf bite, it was this whole big, slow hallucinatory thing and I meant to call but… Well, I wasn’t really with it and the touch screen started to get away from me. It was all a big accident so don’t worry, there’s no secret vampire-werewolf feud going on with me. I uh, look I know we still have a lot of catching up to do. And I didn’t want this to be the thing that made me… [By this point he’d sat up into a much more conventional position, offering Corey a sad smile before sighing. He was totally the worst BFF ever] So the uh, almost dying also kinda means I missed finals and won’t be graduating, again. But I’ll be at your ceremony, don’t worry bro.

So the…almost dying. It kinda took me down a pretty unfortunate trip down memory lane and I— You know, I wasn’t always like this. Humanity…on. Look the point is, I think I know how to get our girl back. I was wrong about just letting her do her thing, you were right. I… So that was pretty much most of the bad news. Are you okay…?

Honestly, I’m finding this a bit hard to swallow because I thought you were in Vegas having fun, but in actual fact you were dying? There’s a big difference there. Big. And who- I mean what, when, who, how... But you’re fine? You’re okay now? Who saved you this time? I’ll make them a thank-you gift basket at least. [Finding it hard to wrap his head around the fact that his besto has apparently been dying without notice Corey moves on to the next point with a sigh] I also can’t believe you’re not graduating. I mean I don’t know about you but I’ve graduated high school at least 20 times now and, I mean, have you checked if they’ll let you retake? Dying is a pretty good extenuating circumstance.

I- well, Dave, I hope you’re okay and I hope your memories weren’t too invasive and, uh, that’s in the past and all. Jess? You think- So what’s your plan?

interview-with-a-dave :

[Enter Corey Andrews’ room and you will find one David ‘Dave’ Perry sprawled out seductively on his bed, awaiting noticing. Of course he’s never really been the patient sort so soon enough he’d kicked up a loud fuss before re-positioning himself back to being both sprawled and seductive. Grinning at the door, he waited for the BFF]

Alright so! We got a bunch of bad news and a bunch of good news and I think either way you’re gonna be all stressed and overwhelmed about it. Still, we gotta get through this before we can move onto the next thing which I think you’ll like. I mean, in theory anyways— it should be a success.

Good news or bad news first?

[Having been out all day on mundane errands no one else in the house bothers to do, Corey drops all shopping bags as he hears disturbing noises from his one and only bedroom. Rushing up, anticipating either something dead, undead, or near dead, he is pleasantly surprised to find he was right on all three counts. Though confused and only slightly faced by the pose of his long lost bud he decides to listen rather than to starting an interogation on what on Earth this man has been up to]

[Anticipating one roller coaster of a story Corey decides to brace himself by sitting down in his spinny chair] Yeah, okay... bad news first. Always bad news first.

Send him my love. Or… Y’know. Hm. I guess that’s a you thing too. [smiles a little] Like when Nigel lost his favourite toy and I wanted to get him a new one but nope, you wanted to find it no matter how gross and torn up it was. And you did. He was very grateful. And I guess I haven’t… The party was a little over the top. I’m sorry about Alex’s mug. But see, you’re not making this very easy either. You know that, right? That little stunt you pulled. Looking at me like— Either way, BTW, I did not appreciate it.

[shrugs] Yeah, he was grateful. Sometimes the struggle is worth it and... I can’t replace you. There’s nothing I can buy to get you back. There’s no easy trick or hack to do it. I- yeaaah the mug is probably the last of my worries actually but thanks. [shakes his head] It wasn’t a stunt, Jess. This isn’t a game, and I just- I hope you understand why I’m not going to stop fighting for you.

Well… I mean, a trim every now and then would be acceptable. I think I could live with the trimming. Oh. Oh, right. Well, you know, they’re really not all that great. Unless you need to contact someone quickly. Really, as long as you figure out how to call someone then you’re fine. [laughs] Yeah, I have a snapchat, but I don’t use it much. I was coerced into it by Danny. If you ever get it, let me know. You do? Uh… no? I don’t think I’ll guess. Is it another vampire thing? Because like… I’m not going to tell anyone. You know, if that’s- What’s the question?

Do you not think I’d suit long hair? I could have a top knot. [laughs] I could grow a beard and get a top knot like all the cool 20-somethings. You’ll be glad to know I already know how to call someone. Danny is actually the one that suggested it to me as well. Oh, no, it’s much more human. It’s- I know you won’t tell anyone about that. I trust you. Um... I was gonna ask if- Actually... Do you want me to make it a big sparkly question? I could make it grand- I can make a whole show for you. Or should I just ask?

You so do that. At least four people in the house can attest to it. Five if Dave were here but god knows where he’s holed up right now. Probably with a couple of Havensdale hotties. … So. Are still all mad at me and whatnot?

Yeah I need to talk to Dave actually. I’m... not mad at you, just- I’m just not giving up on you and, you know, you’re not making this very easy. I’ll figure it out though. I’ll get you back, Jess.

I mean, no offence. You were still hella fine with it short, but please don’t ever cut it again because what else am I supposed to do with my hands? -laughs- So… is this like… a vampire thing? The technology stuff?

Well, you make a compelling argument there. For you I’ll never cut it again. Oh no, it’s not a... vampire thing, I’m just daft as a rock with these things. Not a very good texter. I’ve been told to get Snappychat though, so that’s a whole new platform of things I’ll probably fail to do. Do you have that? Snappychat? Snapperchat? ...Snap- Snapchat? Also, I have a much better question and you can probably guess what it’s about.

I read once in a leftover copy of Cosmo that women definitely appreciate that in a man. Uh, I guess so. A game of ‘here’s my face, send yours’. You send photos through it. The puppy filter is like, a national treasure at this point. Yeah? You’re getting there, Corey. You are getting there. Good point, all ours are so… pointy. Prom! Oh well uh, I was actually going to ask you but… Kidding. You know Roo, she’s not exactly brimming with school spirit. Jess was always the one with the pom-poms. But I do think it’s a once in a lifetime high school experience she can’t afford to miss. Besides, if you were to ask her… I’m sure she’d love that kind of thing.

Cosmo is a trustworthy source. Oooh, that sounds... interesting. Snapchat. I’ll look into it. Pointy? Oh- Well I’m flattered either way. So I should ask her? I’ll ask her. I think it’ll be fun and, yeah, like you said, once in a lifetime... I’ll ask her next time I see her. Are you going? I know that sounds weird but like, you’re the coach of the team so... are you?

Anytime, my man. Anytime. I’m getting that. Don’t worry about, I don’t really know how to use the laundry hamper or at least this is what my mom keeps telling me. But hey! Have you got Snapchat? You should check out the snap filters. You’d have a field day of awesome, I can guarantee. ‘Course you do. Dude, that sucks. Still, good thing you know how to fix ‘em since they’re so accident prone. Soooooo… Prom’s coming up.

At least we’re not afraid to admit to our weaknesses. Snapchat? Is it a game? Uuuh... I have Candy Crush. Yeah, someone’s gotta take care of the family heirlooms. Oh- prom. Prom! Do you think... Ruby would want to go to that? I mean in general, does she like that kind of thing?
