Guildford - historical town
Within the 10-min-walking distance from the Uni., what you can find is the nearest town, Guildford.
Guildford is one of the historical town in UK which is gentle and quiet place. Not like those hustle and bustle cities, in here you can easily relax yourself and spend your spare time.
Every weekend, there are tens of stores and shops opening and providing cheap sales to the citizen.
I have already received my flat no. online yesterday. Hope you all guys received your accommodation choice and have a nice year in your room. Login yourself and check it now: https://ams.surrey.ac.uk/
Being a part of the Uni.
During the foundation course, you are going to study in the University of Surrey. Yes, just like what the other uni. students do. You will live in an accommodation with other uni. students, join societies and clubs of the uni., and for sure, you will make friends with them.
Foundation year is not only a education course, but also a way of living in order to let you get use to UK’s life and university life before you progress into Year 1.
Two months before your course start
The two-month countdown have started. Are you prepared to study in UK? Your visa is ready for your study? Booked your flight tickets? Packed your luggages?
Make sure you are prepared for your study and treasure your days!
Sports in Surrey
Surrey sport park is a newly built sport centre. It is a multi-sport centre for students, for example badminton, tennis, squash, gym, dancing, boxing, swimming, climbing, etc. Every sporty person could find their love in Sport park.
In order to join sport clubs or booking activities in sport park, you will need a membership. A 12-month membership costs 210 pounds, which allows you free booking for off-peak activities (discount for peak hour), access to swimming pool, fitness centre and climbing centre, etc.
Join us and be a part of the sport guys.

Foundation course - Pathways
As you all know, there are two pathways in Surrey foundation, Bussiness, Econmoics, Law and Politics pathway and Engineering, Science and Mathematics pathway.
With different progression degrees, you will have different electives in your course, but anyway you are going to have only four subjects in a semester.
Most of the subjects are two 2-hour lessons per week. So there will be around 16 hours of lessons a week, and the rest of the time is your free time. You are recommanded to have a total of 22 hours of study every week, that means in a week, you should have 6 hours doing your own study out of the lesson. Less than an hour a day, not too bad :P
Feeling after events
Finally, the week was over. Hope you all enjoy those fairs and talks. Including the information day (pre-departure event), the events this week let me had a memorable experience. And of course, very happy to meet you all face-to-face and had those great conversations. Thank you
Foundation programme - briefly
About the foundation course, it is actually quite similar to your class in your secondary school. In my opinion, the biggest different is that there are more interaction within a small-scaled class. There are around 20 students in a class, and you will have more time to chat with others in class, especially in your English lessons, e.g. sometimes, there will be some grouping and mini-games related to your lessons topics (just like what HK schools always do in lower forms). Also, there are 2-3 annual projects that you may need to group with others and work together after lessons.
Last year, we had a high progression degree of 90% among the Hong Kong students in Surrey foundation programme. Most of the students feel it easy, and relax.
Just play when you want to, but study when you have to.
Transportations
For outgoing of you, it must be an important thing to go dining and window-shopping every day and night. Guildford town must be the first place to visit. Basically, 26/27(town<-->campus), 36/37(town<-->campus<-->manor park) and 38(campus<-->manor park) are the most useful routes for you. And for manor park students, 36/37/38 is what you boarding every school day. However, It cost you around 1 pound once and 2 pound for manor park to town and if you accumulate this amount daily, it could cost you hundreds.
Good news is there is a Student Travelcard for University of Surrey students. It costs you 148 pounds for a year, or 66 pounds for 3 month. What you need is just buy it from the university. For people like traveling, Guildford couldn't keep you here for the whole year, maybe not even a month. London, Portsmouth, Manchester or other cities may fit your favour. However, it may be expensive for you even just going somewhere once, railcard(16-25 railcard) launched by the national rail company can save you a lot, an 1/3 off discount is offered.
But there is one thing to remind you.
Don't forget your study!!
Accommodation (4)
Last but not least, the Manor Park. It is no doubt that Manor Park is the best quality living place amoung the three areas. With a higher banding in the accommodation choice, monor park provide a relatively better environment. Near the sport park and the Tesco(Supermarket), flat with lifts, newly-built manor park is always a good choice for you. However, Manor park is 1.6km away from Stag hill(a quite long slope).
Other than the cost, distance may be the only disadvantage of Manor park. Some of the students would prefer to walk for 20-25 mins to the main campus or cycling to Uni to over come this obsticle. But most of the students in manor park would like to have a Buspass to enjoy an annuall free bus servies, which I will talk about in the coming days.
Busy Week
The coming week is a busy week to everyone. For you guys, the release of HKDSE result and the finding University in Hong Kong or in overseas university fairs. For me, preparing and holding those fairs and talks for all of you.
Let's enjoy this busy chaotic week~! /(T AT)/
Accommodation (3)
Stag Hill Campus is obviously the nearest living place to where you have your lessons. It is easy to go manor park and the town too. The average price of rooms is at the middle amoung the three choices. But there is also a risk of living too close to the campus, what I mean is that people walking around may affact your "roomlife" especially at night. For example, every Wed and Fri is bar party night. They sometimes play noisy music and affecting surrounding flats and some of the student may chatting and laughing loud or even shouting after they have drunk. That could be annoying to people who like quiet rooms.
We have different bands of rooms on Stag Hill (from Band A to Band D), room facilities could be totally different. And there are three receptions amoung the campus in charge of different courts.
In short, Stag Hill Accommodations are great living places for students who mainly focusing on usefulness of the room but not the comfort of it.
Guys DO NOT JUST LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR UK LIFE!! Do treasure your remaining HK summertime. DO NOT JUST STAY IN YOUR ROOM IN FRONT OF THE COMPUTER!! Do go out with family and friends.
SO, CALL YOUR FRIENDS AND GO SOMEWHERE, RIGHT NOW!!!
Typhoon(?)
Yesterday was a silent typhoon day. It was so quiet that I even didn’t meet any rain. The only things I knew which related to the typhoon was the early leave caused by the Typhoon signal No.8 and the wet floor on the street in this morning.
Accommodation (2)
Hazel Farm is the cheapest choice of Accommodation in Surrey. Although it is quite far away from the main campus (5km), free bus service is provided to travel between Hazel Farm and Campus. There also have some parking spaces for residents.
All of the rooms in Hazel Farm are single room, and washbasins are provided in Band B rooms but not in those Band A rooms.Students have to share their toilets, showers and kitchen.
Accommodation
There are three main groups of accommodation which provide by the Uni, Stag Hill, Manor Park and Hazel Farm. Basically,Stag Hill is the nearest, Hazel is the cheapest and manor is the newest. When choosing which band to live in, cost, convenience and quality of the place you live is what you have to consider mainly.
