Hello hello!

So I’m not exactly new to writeblr at all. I’ve been bouncing around for a while now, but I decided to rebrand and come back around! (Mainly because I was using a different pen name last time I was on writeblr and uh...just didn’t really like it too much anymore tbh so here we are) So if any of my WIPs sound familiar, that’s probably why!

So here’s some info:

I’m trying out the pen name Evie, at least for a bit, but that may change

I’m in my mid-20′s (got a grandma up in here huh?)

Currently finishing up my B.A in English with minors in Creative Writing and Communication, still trying to figure out what to do when I graduate

I’ve learned that using a writeblr blog as my main blog tends to be pretty bad for my mental health, so this isn’t going to be a big focus of mine. I just really miss the community, so I thought even a tiny bit of interaction is better than none!

I hate admitting it, but I’m a bit of a weeb, so I take a lot of inspiration from anime

I almost exclusively listen to pop punk and other music around that genre. I like music a lot, so that’ll probably come up at some point

I’m here and I’m queer

As much as I love writing fiction, everyone around me kinda assumes that I lean more into poetry and that if I ever get published, I’ll be more well known as a poet than an author. And I can’t really blame them for that tbh

Most of this blog is going to be me talking about my own writing and my writing process, plus some reblogging other people’s works. But I’m probably not going to be reblogging a lot of writing advice and things like that unless I think it could really be helpful.

Oneiria - Contemporary Fantasy. Gavin Prescott was supposed to be a normal college student with a normal life. So what if he’s been having recurring nightmares for basically his entire life? That’s normal, right? At least, that was what he thought until he met Nate, a so-called Dreamwalker.

Strange Sparks - Superhero/Murder Mystery. 12 years ago, the top Heroes in the United States were brutally murdered, leaving behind their two orphaned children. Liam Lowell had some reservations about being partnered with their son for his own Hero work, but he may not have a choice but to lean on Jake when the murders suddenly start back up.

Dove in the Demon’s Mouth - Dark Fantasy(?). Alden has never believed in the gods that were said to protect the country of Edrus. After all, where were the gods while demonic creatures are forcing humanity into sanctuary cities? But when he meets a group of young priests from a small village, he may just have to change his mind.

So I haven’t announced my nano project over here yet and I was planning on doing it later on in the month when I have more buuuuut here’s a little teaser!

The title is How the Forest Lies. It follows a young man who moves to his mother’s hometown with his ex after leaving rehab to kinda get away from the world for a little bit. When he gets there, however, he realizes that the townsfolk aren’t exactly what they seem to be. When people start going missing soon after he moves into town, whispers start swirling around about Hunters and barriers. He ends up getting dragged into a world of myth and mystery that he never thought existed and come to terms with the fact that he’s more embroiled in it than he would have ever guessed.

The village elders had one rule: Never look the shadows in the eye.

It was an old legend, one that had been around long before Tristan had even been a twinkle in his mother’s eye. There were…things living deep in the sea that his village bordered. Creatures that lurked deep in the shadows, that brought catastrophe upon the shores when they themselves became shadows under the surface of the water, when anyone dared look them in the eye.

But even the thought of catastrophe would be better than this, Tristan thought as he snuck downstairs to the first floor of the tavern his mother ran, clutching his cloak’s hood tight around his face to try and blend in with the sailors toasting each other with mugs full of ale for another safe trip home. He closed the door behind him when he left, taking a second to bask in the darkness as the sounds of cheering and drunken singing became muffled at his back.

He kept his eyes down and face covered as he made his way toward the shore. It was dangerous at night, he’d always been told. That’s when the shadows were most likely to appear, most like to trick unsuspecting villagers into looking at them. But that was just an old folk tale, right? A story made up to keep children from playing on the shore after dark, when visibility was low and they were more likely to fall in. He didn’t need to worry about that. He was always safe. He made sure to be after his mother had told him the story of how his father had disappeared into the waves one night when she was pregnant with Tristan.

The sand was soft under his feet as he traveled across the beach proper to his favorite spot on nights like these, a flat, craggy rock that was perfect for sitting and staring out at the horizon. He’d always been drawn there when people in the tavern got too restless and loud, the sound of the waves calming his nerves.

He’d been sitting for just a few moments, watching the way the silver moonlight played on top of the water, bounding along the crests of the waves, when there was a noise from below him, almost a knocking sound on the edge of the rock. He startled, scooting backwards just a bit and waiting until his heartbeat calmed. When the knock came again, he scrambled forward to look over the edge and into the dark water, cursing as he scratched his hand on the rock, blood beading across his palm.

A face popped out of the water. It was that of a boy, probably no older than Tristan himself, staring up at him with wide, pink eyes and slitted pupils. It was the color, though that drew Tristan in. They were the same pale pink as the sea glass his mother wore as a necklace, the one she told him his father had given her, the one she said was incredibly rare. The boy grinned at him, his mouth filled with jagged, razor-sharp teeth. When he spoke, it sounded more like a hiss than a voice.

“You have disaster in your veins too, don’t you? I can smell it on your blood.”

Do you know what happens to unwanted changeling children? Do you know what happens when a mortal says, ‘I don’t want this, it isn’t mine’ and leaves it in the woods or on a hilltop in the moonlight, hoping its own kind will take it back and return them their own? Do you know what happens to that babe—human or not, it’s still a babe—when it is abandoned for the second time in a cruel game of I want, I want, I want?

That changeling child is found by foxes. Foxes are clever things, foxes straddle two worlds (wild and tamed) with ease and are bound by neither, and foxes adapt. They come upon this changeling child, wailing under the cold, thin light of a crescent moon, and they think, you are neither here nor there. They think, you are like me. 

And the changeling child looks up into those clever dark eyes and reaches for that bright red fur (or black, as the case may be, black as the sky and very soft), and stops crying, and receives a kiss. 

A fox’s kiss has power in it. It blooms like a sunflower, dark at its centre and golden all around, and when it fades, there is a little fox pup where a changeling child used to be.

The door to their office swung open and Liam bit back a laugh when Jake walked in. Grace was going to absolutely lose her shi-

“Jacob William Vandale!” There she was, with just the reaction Liam had been expecting. Jake just dropped his bag to the floor, looking at her with wide, curious eyes. As if he had done nothing wrong. Liam couldn’t help the laughter that bubbled out of him. Jake’s mouth quirked up slightly, like he was fighting off a smile and trying to stay as stone-faced as possible. “What did I tell you before you left yesterday?”

Jake shrugged, shoving his hands into the pockets of his torn up jeans. “Not to do anything stupid like dye my hair.”

Grace glared at him, putting her hands on her hips. God, this almost made working on his day off worth it. “And what did you do?”

“Dyed my hair blue.”

❝ Cipher regards her, eyes narrowed. “Why’re you special?” he asks, abruptly switching tracks, having failed to get the reaction from her that he was gunning for.

“Because I heal,” she says.

“So do a lot of beings,” Cipher retorts. 

“I heal from everything,” she clarifies.

“You’re immortal?”

“No. I’m just very, very hard to kill.”

Cipher rolls his eyes, dropping back onto the bed. “Maybe nobody tried hard enough,” he says, reaching out to pick up a music box off the night-table.

Sacha hums. “No, they have,” she tells him. “I was tested thoroughly.”

Cipher’s attention is entirely focused on the music box, but Sacha sees the way his fingers momentarily pause in their fiddling at her words. ❞

It’s not a premeditated occurrence—he wouldn’t have been able to pull it off if not for a series of accidents coinciding to provide him with the perfect opportunity. But the chance comes to him, and he seizes it with both hands and doesn’t look back. He leaves his bodyguard, he leaves his wealth, and he leaves his parents, but most importantly—he leaves their legacy behind him.

Etienne Lamarque runs away from home on a rainy Tuesday morning. 

Three days later, he is spotted shopping at a high-end boutique in the downtown core. He is shadowed by a tall woman with short hair wearing a black mask that obscures the lower half of her face. 

Her name is Sacha—just Sacha—and she has been Etienne Lamarque’s bodyguard for seven years. Nobody watching them—and there are several people watching them, and not just the sale representatives hoping to earn several hundred dollars in commission—would note anything about them that was outside the norm.

Except there’s one problem. The boy Sacha is guarding is not Etienne Lamarque, for all that he looks exactly like him. ❞

Etienne, the very wealthy scion of a very shady family runs away the one day his loyal bodyguard, Sacha, is on leave. His parents (are terrible people) and want him home primarily so no one can try and use their son against them, so they hire a shapeshifter named Cipher to double as him. 

Sacha must, of course, guard Cipher as though he’s the real Etienne, all the while worrying about her original charge, and trying to teach Cipher how to be more like Etienne. Cue misadventures (so far indistinct).
