“I don’t know why you’d ask me,”  Sabine said, conversationally, “I was a nurse, took things a bit more seriously.”

                  “OH. Isn’t that exciting?” It wasn’t, and beyond that Nora w a s n’ t impressed with the automatic tone of the brunette. She t h o u g h t about shooting her own question back ( i don’t know why you’d tell me ) but merely chewed her lip and shrugged instead. “And how’s that working out for you? Being s e r i o u s ?”

     “I wasn’t being serious about the education thing,” he said, loading the breads into the baskets and hooking the tray under his arm as he turned. “Though, you will have to learn a few words to make sure the orders are right. They’re easy to understand.” As he move behind the counter, he pulled cherry tarts from the display case, brought it to her and offered it. “Exactly. I might ask you occasionally to help clean or set displays, maybe more in the future, but you’ll do fine. I’m sure of it. Why are you nervous?”

                  “OH thank god.” A r u s h of air escaped her lungs, one that Nora wasn’t aware she had been holding. And still her eyes f o l l o w e d her boss as he busied himself about the store. Maybe she should have helped him unpack or whatever it was he was doing, but Nora was rather clueless on such things. When he approached with the tart her demeanor s h i f t e d and Nora settled a little STRAIGHTER than she had been before. Fingers wrapped around the treat and she was quick to take a n i b b l e. “Stage fright.”

      “Well,” he began, hauling a large try to the display baskets. “You get actual benefits for working for me. I take care of my employees insurances. In addition you are required to try the new things I make that would possibly go for sale here. You may not like it, but it is free food, nonetheless. Oh, you might learn a few German words because that’s what most of the labels are in. Education is fun.”

                  “EDUCATION is ...” Nora’s words trailed off as she watched her boss haul the goods. S u r e, she could have helped but the words he uttered just seemed to baffle her instead. The redhead merely s h o o k her head and tossed him a more worried look. “Um. Alright. So I just ring out the customers when I’m here basically? I can do that.”
