John just looked confused when he made his joke, but that was something else Red was used to. The monotone and blank expression apparently made it difficult for people to tell when he was joking, even though Pika always understood just fine.
Red knows John is laughing at him, but he isn’t bothered, waving stray wisps of smoke away from his face. “Blowing smoke in my face is just what he does.” He means to explain that the smoke isn’t actually a complaint, but misses a few words.
“I don’t really do it for me; an old friend of mine named Green started it when we were kids, thought it was hilarious.” Red’s favorite color actually was green, but Green the person would always get mad if Red ‘stole his color’ so he’d stopped bothering years ago. And then it was just habit. “I think habitually dressing like a toilet would get tiring quickly. Too much effort to get on and off.”
Looks like John isn’t the only one who can’t see jokes when they’re right in front of his nose.
“Oh, I get it. It’s like when I’m laying on my Ursaring and she rolls over and squishes me.” It’s all in good fun, but the way you’ve spun it makes it sound more villainous than it truly is. Waving your hand in the air to dismiss the sidetracked conversation, you let it fall and motion to Rosa. “What did you have in mind as far as help with her?” Honestly, you’re up to any suggestion. That isn’t to say you would try any suggestion, because that ballpark is just too big, but you would listen to everything Red had to offer.
“Was their name really Green? Or did like... You two both have different names and just went by colors instead?” While you don’t think it’s a hilarious antic, you can appreciate the fact that you probably just don’t get it.
At least the playing field was fair when it came to jokes! But two people slow to pick up on a punch line would likely end up squabbling before long when the wrong words were said and taken literally. “Haha, oh god. Could you imagine? But I don’t think that would be the worst part of it. More like... Going out in public dressed like a toilet and having everyone see. They would be like... Why are you dressed like that? And I would have to be like, because I’m John.” A small pause on your end. “...I don’t think they would get the joke.”
