“Good morning and welcome. Is there any reason in particular that brings you here?”

Entering a rather sketchy district, to seek an establishment to nourish his stomach with food. He was famished and seeing a restaurant among the rows of traditional looking house was more than helpful given the new circumstance. A greeting fetched his attention towards the viridian haired woman, smiling back with a nod, Chrollo answered her politely.

“ Good morning to you as well, miss. I’m looking for a restaurant and believing this place is one, I came here.”

"Sadly you have been misinformed, this is a snack bar. We do provide our clients with food, if that is what they desire, but only as a companion to alcoholic beverages.” Tama explained in a calm tone.

“However, after we recently started to have a new kind of clients in our local, we have started to supply simple meals too, such as three kilos of rice and eggs or a rosted boar.” She then added. “If this menu is of your liking, I can prepare you something.”

“A wet towel for on my head please.” He requested simply and looked up at her while exhaling smoke.

“Immediately. Please wait here a moment.” Tama replied, nodding. She then turned around towards the bar. A few second later she walked out of it while holding the towel with a pair of yellow rubber gloves and keeping it far away from her body.

“Here you are.” She said while giving him the towel.

“Good morning and welcome. Is there any reason in particular that brings you here?”

“Good morning, and pleased to meet you. Is there anything I can do to help?”

Hijikata quickly extinguised the flames in his hair and kept himself from throwing a tantrum. He inhaled smoke from his cigarette. “Thanks for your help.” He said kindly instead.

“You’re welcome.” Tama replied with a smile. “You do seem kind of tense all of a sudden, however. Can I do anything for you, to make you more at your ease?”

“Of course, I would like to learn as much as I can. After all, a proper knowledge about it could make a difference on the outcome of the task.” he nodded at his own words before looking back at Tama,

“But… are you sure it’s okay? Won’t I be a bother taking your time?”

“Absolutely not.” She replied with a smile. “After all my main task is to help people, so me helping you will also help everyone, in a way. So, whatever you want to know, just ask me and I’ll do everything in my power to help you with it.”

"You’re at the right place, sweetheart. What’s a dame like you doing in a place like this?" I grabbed a lollipop and lit it, sticking the sucker in my mouth before blowing the smoke to the side. "Someone steal your purse?"

Being the “gentleman” that I am, I offered her a seat. Hopefully the chair wouldn’t break under her weight. I’m not saying she was fat, but the chair had seen better days. And why bother buying a new chair when you need to eat, am I right?

"What’s your name, doll?"

Sweetheart and doll, not exactly the most gallant of greetings. But then again, this isn’t the main reason why I looked for someone like him, this is something I had been told to expect.

On the other hand the scene of that puff of smoke coming out of his mouth strikes me as... weird, for lack of a better term. I had been warned of this too, but this is pretty out there even for me, but after a moment of bewilderment I manage to reply.

“My name is Tama, pleased to meet you Mr. Gintoki.” I say, a bit unsure whether I should give him my hand or not. Eventually I extend my hand out to him and wait.

“And you’re partially right, my visit here has to do with something being stolen. It’s not my purse, however.” I then add, shaking my purse with my other hand.

“Im not a regular costumer, since that Yorozuya-bastard lives right above here but I happen to pass by every once in a while. Mostly when he’s not around.” Hijikata spoke and pulled out a cigarette, can you light this for me then?“

“You mean Mr. Gintoki, I suppose.” Tama replied. 

Those words didn’t surprise her the least, it was almost a standard sentence by this point when it came to Mr. Gintoki: I try to avoid being here when he’s around. In fact, she had once heard Ms. Otose saying something about beware of people that expressed the opposite concept.

“As for your cigarette, there is not problem. Could you just step back a little...” She said before lifting her mop and activating its flamethrowing function.

“Here you are, help yourself.”

“Finishing off people with a mop is.” Hijikata said and put his lighter away again. “Good you tell me. You work at Otoses snackbar dont you?”

“Well, that’s my weapon of choice, so it’s natural that I trained myself to use it proficiently. Both as a blunt object and as a flamethrower.” She explained.

“Anyway, you are correct. Are you and old client from before the time I started working there, by any chance?”

Hijikata whistled. “Impressive.” He said and pulled his lighter out of his pocket switching it on and off thoughtlessly.

“You think so? Which of my abilities, in particular, you find impressive?” Tama asked, looking at the man curiously. “Also, please beware with that lighter when you’re nearby me, I just finished lunch and I’m liable to be flammable.”

In response to the man’s reply, Tama chuckled. “My duty is to help anyone who needs it, regardless of what my opinions on them would be. My priority right now is to do anything in my power to assure that your wounds are cured, what will come after this we’ll see in due time.” she explained.

It wasn’t her intention to explain her actions straight out like that, even if they weren’t too difficult to guess and she was well aware of it, but given how the man was being that direct despite the situation, the android decided to follow suit and play the same game, seeing where it would have taken her.

"And what about this problem you’re talking about?" she then asked. "And for that solution you mentioned, do you have need for my help with that too?"

"… Thank you, then." Now was not the time to contemplate that sort of ideology, but… did this mean he did not have to consider himself in her debt, either?

Then again, the next step would negate that either way. "The problem, as you may have guessed, is that you should not know about what I am or the location you are bringing me to. I’ve the utmost confidence in your ability not to disclose it if asked not to, but…” A pause as he considered the right wording, “… that is simply not good enough for everyone.

"However! With your being an android, the solution is far more pleasant than it would be for a human." A cheerful note entered his voice, as though he was proud to have worked out a plan that was beneficial to all involved. "You will only have to erase this encounter from your data once we have parted ways, and there should be no further trouble."

“From the certainty in your tone and your proposal, it seems like I ended being involved into something potentially interesting.” Tama couldn’t help commenting out loud.

“What you require might be doable, but only under certain circumstances: to avoid any danger to my memory bank my hard drive is protected, physically and not, by a series of safety devices which would be impossible to deal with for someone without any knowledge of machinery. For the same reasons, you can guess that it’s impossible for me to do the same myself.” She then explained. It was not completely true, but she was curious to see how far this man was ready to take this.

“So, given the situation, if nothing could be done about it, what would happen to me?”

“Ah thanks.” Hijikata nodded. “What is among your functions?” He asked curiously

“My main purpose is to deal with everyday chores like keeping things tidy and clean. Furthermore, I can prepare and serve drink and snacks for seven people and fight off a dozen of enemies with my mop, both in under a minute.” Tama plainly explained.

“Welcome and pleased to meet you, is there anything I can do to help?”

“Im out of cigarettes. Do you sell some by any chance?”

After a moment of hesitation, Tama replied: “No, that is not among my functions, but I can tell you who does, the closest being the convenience store on the other side of the block.”
