I told myself I would become cold. The fire that burnt in my heart for you only ended in burns worse than the second degree.

I've heard they're worse than third, because you still feel their pain.

But the burn that comes from loving you has turned to that of dry ice. Never have I felt numbness so oxymoronically intense.

Your presence in my mind has gone from a warm embrace to a spectral breeze. I fear how many goosebumps will make themselves visible on my skin the next time I see you in person. I'll be wearing that top that you like.

I told myself I would become cold. To never know the warmth of a flame reciprocating mine will keep me a flickering flame.

My world is no longer the same. I see it in the weather when I look out the window. The day I felt your exit, and saw the first snow of the year— knowing it’s warm where you are.

I've always hated the cold.
