“the final straw came when she worked alongside another gang on a smash and grab heist at a chemtech facility that had just struck a rich seam. listening in on miners’ chatter in the bars, vi learned when payment for the ore was being delivered, and hatched a scheme to relieve the mine’s owner of his gold. The plan required extra bodies to pull off, so vi reluctantly brought the factorywood fiends in on her score. The job went to plan until the leader of the fiends used a chem-powered mining golem to kill the owner with its oversized pulverizer gauntlets. His men drove the workers into the mine as he started demolishing the opening, driving the golem into an overload. this wanton slaughter and destruction infuriated vi. it had been a perfect score and now these psychotic idiots were ruining it!

grabbing their share of the gold, the fiends made their escape, but the miners were now trapped below ground and would soon run out of air. vi could not leave them to die, and swiftly donned the overloading golem’s powered gauntlets before it tore itself apart. the wrist mechanisms clamped down on her arms, but vi endured the agony long enough to smash a path through to the miners and save them from certain death.”  —  ( x )

if you take that piece of the lore, along with the following bit:

“she kept the pulverizer gauntlets, and had them modified so as not to burn her whenever she used them…”

she likely has substantial scarring on her arms — cuts and burns — from that initial usage, along with probably the first handful of times she used them. it wasn’t until she befriended jayce (closer to her shift in life path) that they were modified properly and his suggestion she wrap her arms that her arms were in better condition as a whole. he modified them to both fit and work better; they have much smoother mechanics now thanks to him which does lessen much of the pain and damage they can cause.

in terms of vi’s body type, musculature, etc? her shoulders, stomach and back are the most well-toned in terms of muscle (almost overtoned). her legs are still strong, but not nearly as toned given most of her strength is geared towards handling her gauntlets.

she wraps her arms pretty much entirely (sometimes even the tops of her shoulders, back and collar area) before putting the gauntlets on and they still fuck her up a bit. the longer she wears them for, the more superficial damage they wreak on her arms — though, the bandages do buffer a good portion of that. also, there is rigging that goes on her shoulders as well as between them (against the top of her spine below the nape of her neck) that aid in supporting her better in handling the weight of them.

there times she has to go without them if there has just been too much toll on her body — when without her gauntlets? she can still pack a punch due to the work out her arms get, but it is far from the same degree of strength. she is bulkier in terms of her upper body than her legs and that proves beneficial for defense sans gauntlets.
