It was a perfectly normal summer morning for Y/N Blackwood. The young witch, as always, got up around nine o'clock in the morning, combed her long, wavy y/c hair and headed to the kitchen to brew herself a warm cup of coffee. The woman enjoyed the day off from her not-so-loved job at the Ministry. She had never enjoyed sitting behind a desk and filling out paperwork for over 9 hours a day. Y/n had always wanted to become a healer or an Auror. However, her plans completely changed after the Order of the Phoenix fell apart, and Lord Voldemort was defeated by a young boy and the son of a former friend of the woman.
Y/n met Lily Evans in her third year at Hogwarts School of Magic and Wizardry. The woman was in Ravenclaw, and Lily was a proud Gryffon. They were paired together to prune the Whisk leaves during their Herbology lessons, which they both hated. Despite being very attentive students, both girls didn’t get on with the task, and instead of correcting their mistakes, they started making jokes together, which ended up with them both being grounded. From then on, they were inseparable, especially since Y/n did not have any close friends, yes she had many acquaintances from different houses, but she did not keep close enough to call them friends.
On the other hand, Lily was friends with Severus Snape, a shy boy from Slytherin, and the Marauders, so she missed female company so much. Y/n was quickly accepted by Lily’s friends, even by the black-haired Slytherin boy; she later sat within Potions when they both chose to take an extension in that subject. However, not everything was so colourful. The Marauders would often bully the young Snape in sometimes brutal ways. Lily and Y/n often stood up for the boy, but the two of them could do nothing. Everything changed when Snape joined the Death Eaters and called Lily a Mudblood. Y/n wanted to talk to him, but the conversation ended in the complete opposite way than the girl had expected.
And so the years passed, Voldemort grew more robust, the World of Magic became more and more dangerous. The woman hid and helped the Order as much as she could. Everything changed one October night when Lily and James Potter were murdered by You Know Who. Y/n then lost not only her best friends but her family as well. Sirius ended up in Azkaban, Peter died, and Remus holed up somewhere with no contact. After the war, the woman wanted a break from the recent events and the fight against evil, so she decided to take a quiet job at the Ministry of Magic, where she was in charge of the misdemeanours department. Since then, her life has been peaceful, but she did not know it was about to change.
The woman was sitting quietly in her armchair, sipping a black drink and reading her favourite book, when suddenly there was a loud knock on the door. Y/n put the cup down on the saucer and got up from her seat, heading for the source of the sound. When she opened the door, her eyes were met by none other than Professor Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster at Hogwarts. The woman was slightly surprised but also happy, as she had not seen the man since the dissolution of the Order of the Phoenix. With a friendly gesture, she invited the man inside. “Hello Professor, what do I owe this visit to myself?” she asked in a sweet and cheerful voice. “Hello Y/n, no formalities, please, it’s been a long time since I’ve been your professor”, the Headmaster winked at her, reaching for a sponge cake from a bowl on the table. “Okay, so Albus, to what do I owe this visit?” she asked a man again. “Couldn’t an old friend pay you a visit anymore?” laughed the old man, to which the girl merely looked on with eyes indicating that she knew better. “Well, I’ll get to the point”, he began, “I know from my sources that you now have a fairly well-paid position in the misdemeanour department of the Ministry. However, I have another job offer for you, equally well paid” he added, and Y/n listened curiously. “As I know, you have always been passionate about Potions and Transmutation” the woman’s eyes lit up at the mention of these subjects. “However, I do have a vacant position teaching Muggle Studies if you would be interested”, he finished. The woman sighed and mused. “Of course, you don’t have to answer me right away,” the professor began, “I will take the position with great pleasure”, the woman replied, and the Headmaster smiled at her, clearly pleased with the answer. “I am very pleased, dear; I would ask that you come to Hogwarts a week before the first of September, then I will let you know everything” the woman nodded. “Albus…” she began uncertainly. “I do, however, have one question”, she added more boldly. “I suppose you want to know why I asked you for this position?” he asked, to which the woman nodded affirmatively. “As you may know, Harry Potter joined us last year; however, my fears were confirmed, Voldemort tried to return and attack Harry, I would like him to have an extra pair of eyes to watch him, especially as I know who you are to him and what he means to you” replied the Headmaster calmly “But you have nothing to worry about, that is not the only reason, I believe that after all your knowledge and approach will be a perfect fit”, he winked at her and smiled. “Does Harry know about me?” the woman asked, clearly worried. “No, let’s keep it that way for now, and you will decide in time if you want to confess the truth to him or not” the woman nodded. “Well, I’m off; it’s time for me to go. I’ll send you a detailed letter next week, and I’ll see you in three weeks, Miss Blackwood” he smiled at her sincerely. “Thank you very much, Headmaster, and I promise to pay attention to the boy” she smiled in response. Before she knew it, Dumbledore was gone. This is going to be an exciting year, the woman thought.
