Sydney’s Low Life put out one of the best albums of 2014, and a much anticipated one, as it was originally recorded back in 2011 and supposed to be released in 2012 via Brendon Annesley’s imprint Negative Guest List, just like the band’s much acclaimed ‘Sydney Darbs’ 7" the year prior. But due to the man’s untimely death this never happened and the LP was postponed until further notice. Thankfully R.I.P. Soiciety and Disinfect stepped in and finally put the album out pretty much a year ago. The band’s still up to it, playing shows in their native Australia, and they just finished a tour of the United States. So, I was in Essen at Museum Folkwang the other day to check the Robert Frank exhibition they have currently going over there, which features a fine selection of Frank’s photos (early works as well as more current ones), inkjet-printed on rolls of newsprint, measuring up to four metres long, and then pinned and glued directly onto the walls, dirt-cheap but beautifully aesthetic. And they've got this other thing going right now called "Conflict, time, photography" that alone would've been well worth the visit. Anyway, my whole point of telling you this is not to get you go and visit the Museum, even though you should if you have the chance, but to tell you that my short stint in the city of Essen reminded me that I had unfinished business sitting on my hard-drive in form of this here little gem. It was completely cut (with only the credits missing) last December, the same week I had seen the band play a great show in Heilbronn at Data 77112, and made consecutively with the Prolife video, drawing from the same source-material, German television movie "Verlierer". Which, as some of you might know, was in parts shot on location in Essen, even though almost 30 years ago. It's nothing like that there anymore...

I was lucky enough to catch ‘em while I was visiting San Francisco last year, and will hopefully be able to get crushed once more when I'm around these parts again in October. The more literate of you will of course have noticed the hashtag fail, Mabuhay Gardens is not actutally to be seen in these pictures, even though the car is passing by, but these mid-1980's dumbasses point the camera in the wrong direction.
