it’s interesting how dedra chose to approach this meal situation with syril and eedy. this is almost like a mind game to her.

she chose to remain quiet most of the time and commented here and there just to keep the conversation going, but i think this is her way of observing and evaluating eedy. like syril was trying stop his mum couple of times and dedra just said it’s fine. i think it’s bc she wanted to see eedy’s true personality and her relationship with syril. with enough information, dedra calculated how she should approach and tackle this issue, leading to the ‘plan’ monologue that she told eedy.

i’m not sure if this approach eventually worked out in the long term or not, but at least she managed to establish a boundary for their relationship and eedy got the message that dedra is not someone to be messed with.

dedra waited until heert had a day off so she could have all the glory of capturing luthen while avoiding interference. but what if lonni waited to flee until heert’s day off too? they worked closely together, and heert is literally by his side all the time. perhaps heert’s absence made it easier for lonni to access those files. either way, it’s just really funny that heert having a day off is a domino in the collapse of a galactic empire

and how did that work out?

I think that Dedra as a character shows us a very important side of female experience. And I’m not only talking about her being a woman in a man’s world — it’s more than that.

An overachiever girl. Unloved. Neglected emotionally. Raised in a system where her existence was only justified as long as she was productive, as long as she made herself useful, as long as she worked herself to death for a scant reward. Rewarded for being smart, but only when it benefitted the system. Capable of loving — and yet incapable of intimacy. Disconnected from her body, out of touch with her emotions. Emotions are dangerous; you suppress them and get back to work. Brief moments of success are the only time when she feels something akin to joy.

The system treats Dedra not as a person but as a function. And what is even scarier, she gets used to treating herself that way too.

I kinda like the idea that if Dedra is still rattling around in the sequel trilogy era that she favours the New Republic over the First Order. Not because the New Republic are Good, but because the New Republic are The Government. The State is right, the State is legitimate, no matter what. Opposing the State is wrong and illegitimate, no matter what.

The Republic is right, because they are The Government. The Separatists are wrong because they are Not The Government. The Empire is right, the Rebels are wrong. And the First Order is Not The Government, ergo, they are automatically illegitimate and wrong.

So, it’s going to be one of those days where I’m going insane about how much Dedra loved Syril, huh

randomly staring at this pic of dedra’s apartment and then it hits me that no one is living here anymore.

there used to be a person living here. then it became 2 people building their lives together. at some point there were even 3 people having a meal here. then it was back to 1 person, and now everyone’s gone.

what pains me is that dedra was already in the cell but still made a correct guess when heert asked about where to find kleya. it shows she’s been very hardworking and very competent in her job until the last moment.

unfortunately it’s the empire she’s working for.

No but how funny would it be if Cassian, Syril or Dedra, who all were to Ghorman, were arachnophobic, like can you imagine sending them on a planet where their main business is built on spiders so 90% of the time whey would be just like

“What a thrill this season to think about what Dedra wears when she’s not dressed in her ISB uniform. That was a gift from Tony Gilroy. Denise and I really talked a lot about this. We get to see Dedra in her apartment. It’s so important to see that other side of her. She gets home. She’s probably super relieved to take off the armor of the ISB highly-tailored uniform. But, in a way, she just sort of changes into another version of that. The colors are the same. She slips into clothes that are more comfortable, but also in a structured and formal way. She keeps that rigidity even in her private life. She believes so much in her morality and ethics that I think she can’t ever let that slip. Her mentality is very black and white. i’d like to think that the reason dedra wasn’t in 2x09 is because she was on a vacation. this woman really needed a break.
