Juliana Tavares and Bárbara Gontijo star in this a Brazilian web-series set to premiere on Youtube on November 14th. Produced by young women filmmakers from Brasilia, it sets out to tell a post-apocalyptic story of their hometown. Catch new episodes every Tuesday and Friday on the webseries’ official channel!

Last year, the Eixos team was present in Rio WebFest to learn more about the world of web-series and got to know all kinds of awesome people psyched to undertake this new adventure. This year, we’re coming back but with a whole new purpose. It’s our pleasure to announce that our webseries has been nominated for Best Action Series, Best Cinematography and Best Make Up! The festival will take place on November 16h through 19th.

Deserted and in ruins, the city of Brasilia becomes the center stage for strange disappearances..

The Project

Our goal is to produce a live-action science-fiction webseries (6 episodes, around 5 minutes each), breaking away from the more common themes present in Brazilian cinema. We want to show a new facet of Brazilian productions: an original sci-fi story embedded in Brazilian history and culture, bringing together our Afro-Brazilian heritage as well as the futuristic and utopian designs of modernist architecture. We seek to truly explore the city we live in, every nook of its hidden underworld, in order to use what was once called the Capital of Hope as a backdrop for a bleak, post-apocalyptic future.

We want to produce a webseries that would engage its viewers, not only providing them with a pleasurable viewing experience but also encompassing a larger, puzzle-like, transmedia storytelling. We wish to integrate our audience into our story by means of side products hidden in a larger web, stories of the world changing through the eyes of side characters by putting them in the center of the story. We wish to invite our audience to imagine with us what our world could turn into if we keep making the wrong choices.

We have been working on the project for the past year and we’re starting our pre-production phase. The script is built around 6 episodes which will follow Cassia’s adventures as she uncovers more to this city’s mystery…

It’s important to us to bring you a high quality product, one that could truly take you into this adventure, one where you could feel surrounded by this bleak world we have built. As such, the funds we collect will be directed towards hiring professional and engaging actresses who will be able to truly bring to life the characters and the strange circumstances they were brought up in. Mostly, however, we wish to invest heavily on production design. Although we want to use as much of the local architecture as possible, truly exploring the nooks and crannies of this unique town, most of our sets and wardrobes will be made from scratch. We want to truly create a set that can tell the story and customs of this world, including the extreme situations it has been put through, the cultural influences, its history and economical phases. Investing on this project would help us achieve this and truly make our story come alive.

On top of this, we wish to interact with our audience and investors. We want to produce exclusive making of material investors can be privy to, “Do It Yourself” videos detailing our production design process, interviews with the cast and crew, meet & greets, etc. All of that on of top of the behind the scenes photos and photoshoots which will be posted regularly on our facebook and tumblr pages! Brasilia, DF - Brazil According to legend, Italian saint Don Bosco had a dream in 1883 in which he vividly described the advent of a futuristic capital, a city that would bring solace to the the millions of people who await it. And he dreamt of the coordinates where - one day - Brasilia would be built. From 1763 to 1960, Rio de Janeiro was the capital of the country and the south-east region around it concentrated most of the wealth and population, making it difficult to rule over the entire extent of the then-Empire. By 1827, the advisor to the Emperor Pedro I proposed a bill that would move the capital westward, build a new capital closer to the geographical center of the country. But it didn’t come to pass.

At the dawn of the first republic, in 1891, an article was written into the constitution that would predict a change of capitals which should allow for a more centralized power. Again, however, this was largely ignored.

The project was picked up and dropped again countless times until, in 1955, Juscelino Kubitchek made it the very focus of his presidential campaign. And when he got elected, he set off to make this promise a reality during his next four years in term.

World renowned modernist architect Oscar Niemeyer, inspired by Le Corbusier’s work, was immediately called in to head the project. The government then opened a contest to urbanists for anyone who would like to submit a plan for a new city - to be built out west, on the vast plains of the Brazilian savannah. Lucio Costa - Niemeyer’s old mentor - won that contest by submitting a modernist design shaped like a cross, or a plane, with well defined sectors and a proposal for a new social experience.

Together, Kubitcheck, Niemeyer and Costa wanted to build a new city for a new world order, a new culture, different and improved Brazilian citizens. The very urbanism of the city would change the way they moved, talked, related to the world around them. It wasn’t just a city they were building in four years: it was a utopia.

By 1960 it was inaugurated. The question is… did they achieve their dream?

Introducing our new webseries: Axis.

Dear tumblr, here we are! We are proud to present our newest project:

Axis (Eixos, originally) is a Brazilian sci-fi webseries, set in Brasilia in 2060. The capital is about to turn 100 years old - inaugurated in 1960 it used to be the pride of Brazilian architecture, showing off its modernist monuments and unique urbanism. But since then, the country has fallen through the cracks: its political institutions have crumbled over the weight of their greed, populations have risen and fallen again and again, everyone fighting over the slim possibility of regaining power over the entire territory. Soon, the population turns nomadic and the nation becomes little more than independent communes scattered across the land. Brasilia, however, is all but left abandoned.

When Cassia first sets foot on what used to be the Capital, there’s only a handful of people who still inhabit the empty and bleak buildings. Until they start disappearing. At first it’s mostly rumors echoing through the town, people who’ve strangely gone missing. But one day, her best friend is taken - no note, no nothing - and Cassia’s world is completely thrown off balance.

She sets off on a desperate quest to find out what has happened. Together with Inês, a strong-willed aide from a nearby religious commune, they embark on an adventure to uncover the secrets hidden beneath the city’s carefully planned design... 

And we’re just getting started. We have brought together a team of very dedicated senior film students at the University of Brasilia - mostly women who itch to create something we can see ourselves represented in, something we would be proud of. It isn’t just a webseries, we also want to offer you a transmedia experience which will be launched as the project develops  And we want to share this experience with you.

In order to create our webseries, we are currently building an entire world around it. The series will be shot in actual locations around the city, exploring its uncanny architecture as much as we can. But we’re also creating sets, costumes from scratch to offer the best visual experience we can. We’re getting equipment together and hiring the best actresses for the job; doing our very best to offer a compelling experience to our viewers.
