rookiepipebomb (Deputy Lamb.):
Whistling leaves, small groans of pain.
She sat up as much as she could when he started to rummage gently in his bag. Piper understood his discomfort sitting in the open, even at night, the small fire would still be seen through the trees. She gave the doctor a small smile when he handed her his radio. Flipping to the right channel she paused before pressing the button.
“You can leave me here, I’ve spent plenty of nights alone in the dark.” She joked slightly before pressing the call on the radio.
“Deputy Lamb to Nick Rye.” There was a short silence before the radio burst to life with a man’s voice.
“Pip! Oh thank god! Kim and I were worried. Is everything okay, are you okay?” Nick Rye shot out question after question and Piper had to cover the radio with her hand as he yelled.
“Shhh Nick! I just wanted to let you know I’m fine, I’m going radio silent for awhile so keep radioing my name to a minimum.” She spoke with a stern voice to her friend. He was definitely the best choice to call even if he was loud.
“Got it! Stay safe out there Pip! Rye over and out.” Hearing her nickname come from a familiar voice gave her chest a small heave of happiness. Handing back the doctors radio she sat in silence for a moment.
“If you need to leave you should, I’ll be alright.” Piper tried to give her best confident smile, not sure if it translated well.
“So have I, there's a value to company,” he muttered, mostly
as an aside to himself.
He could understand the need for privacy, but leaving her out in
the woods like this didn't sit well on his conscious. 'Doctor mode'
was something he had a hard time slipping out of these days, but in
the situation he figured it was needed and warranted. He paused,
listening somewhat as she spoke down the radio. The name was
familiar, the voice wasn't. Still, at least she had someone to reach
out to if she needed—it was one thing off his shoulders if he
needed to send her somewhere. Granted, that's if she couldn't do
it herself, which she certainly seemed to feel that she could do.
Without the painkillers and bandages, Jonathan had a hard time
believing she'd get too far. Still, adrenaline was something he had to
factor in too.
“Thank you,” he said with a nod once she handed him back the
radio, tucking it away into his bag as the silence fell between the two
of them. Still, he paused at her offer, Jonathan seriously considering
it for a few moments before he let out a short sigh.
“That clinic in Fall's End you mentioned, is is functional? Are there
active physicians?” he asked, knowing full well he shifted the topic
without an answer, but the questions were out regardless, “I would
feel more...comforted having a second opinion, considering doing
something like this out in the woods leaves plenty of room for mistakes.
I don't doubt your confidence, Deputy, but we're human after all.”
