My sincere reaction to this imitation of One Piece (we call it Netflix adaptation). Ignoring it isn't an option when my entire information bubble is saturated with it. Not because the show is bad (honestly not so good either), but because they chose a russian to play Robin. Nice job! To choose a person who represents a country that commits genocide at this very moment. And she plays Robin, a victim of genocide. Wow. Irony of the highest level.
Disgusting. I hate to see how people adore someone who may or may not be directly responsible, but indirect involvement is still a thing, and it’s tied to the destruction of entire families and lives. Of course, she's not from Israel – then it’s fine, right? Her appearance and skin color suit the role, so everything is great. Cancellation would be "inappropriate" here.
And who cares about nations forced to fight for their existence? You can forgive russians a lot, right? Of course you can. It’s easy when it’s not your shitty neighbor destroying your country every day. Nothing wrong with it. It’s natural to be indifferent; that’s just human psychology. However, there’s so much more talk about another conflict. For some reason, that one is important. If that lady's nationality were under the Star of David, the cancellation would have been swift and loud. But not here. Not this time. But what about us? Are Ukrainians and the other nations that russia has occupied and destroyed not people? Believe me, the list is long. And it’s not important, cause no one care. Because we are clearly losing the information war. But there is no strength to remain silent.
I hope you never have to see the majority cherish someone who (even if not directly) is still involved in the destruction of many lives, including your own. It sounds too loud, but collective responsibility exists. And it should not be selective.
But of course, this is just a pipe dream.
Perhaps this outrage looks like an immature tantrum. And maybe not everything should be turned into politics. But unfortunately, we have an experience that won't be erased for generations. And if not us, then who should speak about this?
We must scream about this, and we will. Even if it seems trivial to others. To me, it isn’t. One Piece has always been my solace, and though I could choose to ignore this adaptation, I cannot ignore the rage I feel. Everything they touch turns into a nightmare, and the last thing I want is for that nightmare to invade my only comfort zone.
They’ve managed to crawl even into this space. It makes me sick to watch this blind adoration. It feels like a mockery of fans from Ukraine and all the other countries russia has attacked over the years. I’m trying to get through this crisis, and for now, it’s coming out emotionally. And I’m not sorry.
