Yes, women suffered in a medieval setting, and it's important to acknowledge that a lot of things that happen in ASOIAF are based on things that actually happened irl. But, for HOTD to continue limiting the female character's stories is actually giving the opposite of the "progressive" stance they are trying to make. They continue to water all these women down, to the point they look mediocre and weak compared to their morally grey, complex male counterparts. They are passive, and the idea is that all the women in the show are only vying for peace and not revenge after all both sides have lost. (Writers definitely forgot about Luke and Jae atp) is SO LAME. Even in history, women were ambitious and sought power, women raged and plotted revenge, and they waged war for themselves and for their families.

One of the first things to get me into Game of Thrones was specifically the portrayal of women characters, they were just as interesting as the men even more so on many levels. My first favorite character was Cersei, not because of her actions, but because I was so excited to see a female character that has more depth than being a love interest or a crazy psycho (she's a bitch with a backstory >.<). I hate “girlboss” characters who are written with the intention of having no haters, and victimizing all the HOTD women to be soft-cry babies who are unable to stand on their own on par or against the evil men in their life is misogynistic in itself. Every single one of them is literally pathetic; Rhaenrya was the rightful heir to the throne she has a right to be angry and seek vengeance for her son and everything else the Greens have taken from her. Let her torture someone damn. Alicent's character should not surround and depend on Rhaenrya instead of her own children, who she has suddenly decided to sell out because she wants to go camping??

And there was some EVIL misogynistic BS going on when they made Aemond burn Aegon instead of Rhaenys.

Elphaba is passive in her activism. That’s a very important factor to understanding her character and journey.

The Lion is justified in being angry at her (he should be angry at Fiyero- but all the propaganda ab the WW probably cemented her role in his “cub-napping.”) You can’t go to a zoo and free all these animals by setting them loose, because they have been handicapped. The Lion didn’t know how to hunt or defend itself, Elphaba freed him from “the only home he’s ever known.” And left him alone in the forest with no means to survive. She could have kept the Lion, brought it food and help it adjust to a life outside of captivation- but she went about her own life. The good deed was for herself, and now the Lion hears these awful things about her and it adds on to his perspective of being forced to adapt to a new and scary environment all alone.

Elphaba doesn’t see her good deeds through. Me and my sister literally laughed and how QUICKLY she ran out after she transformed Boq. She saved his life, but left him with her psycho sister. If she stayed for a minute longer, she could have at least tried to explain everything to Boq- and even offer sympathy/kindness as she knows what it’s like to have an unusual appearance. Even if he didn’t want to hear it, at least he couldn’t blame it on her. Someone on one of my other post mentioned that Boq was just very angry. During the darkest time of his life, he got saved by a very sweet kid who Elphaba is threatening. He’s also protective of the Lion, and taking all of their experiences with Elphaba with his and amplifying his anger toward her. (Also I’d like to say he was the only other character besides Elphaba to explicitly stick up for the animals in wfg.) Loosing his heart means he also lost the ability to reason with himself to see the stem of his problems is not Elphaba, but the system that they both disagree with.

Elphaba was just working as a vigilante solo being the sole advocate for the Animals instead of working with them. There should have been rebel animals who were already working toward what Elphaba wanted to achieve. She had good intentions, but she didn’t even try to organize and be intentional with her activism.

Fiyercrow being beaten close to death, and undergoing a most likely painful transformation, just to immediately lock in when Dorothy finds him. He sees this lost child wandering around, and wants to help her- putting aside his struggle to help her figure out a way to get home.

Also, I know Johnathan Bailey said that Fiyero played dumb and did not reveal his identity to Boq. But the fact he saw Boq post transformation, probably heard bits of what happened, and decided to stick around because he must have been genuinely worried for his old friend. Boq during Motwh is terrifying(-ly good.) and Fiyero probably only put up with all the anti Elphaba talk to 1. make sure Boq wouldn’t actually kill her, 2. make sure Boq’s okay since it’s super out of character.

I also imagine he feels responsible for the Cowardly Lion’s grievances, since he was actually the one to pull the cub from the cage.

personally? i enjoy being a fan of characters who have done Wrong. i like when a character is not a perfect victim, has hurt people, has transgressed, has done bad things. sometimes its nice to feel the sting yknow? and to recognize that a character is not a flawless perfect victim, but is deserving of understanding and compassion anyway. a lot of people in fandom refuse to let go of moral absolutism and its... rough.

excuse me for stating the obvious but like. james gunn outright calling superman an immigrant and doubling down on it when he got backlash (because he IS an immigrant, that's the point of superman) + the in-movie dialogue of "aren't you going to read me my rights?" "you're an extraterrestrial, son. you haven't got any rights to read." + the violence of his arrest and how they torture and mistreat him unapologetically, all under the guise of "protecting america", in a film releasing during the onslaught of violent ICE kidnappings and abuse... yeah it's really no wonder right-wing knobheads are crying about this being woke. they're being forced to look directly at the reasons one of the most well-known and beloved heroes of all time would not be on their side. and that's only ONE of the reasons this movie covers

i know this is something that gets talked about a bit, but the more i think about it the more i hate the inner circle.

i wonder if sjm just like forgets that her hero characters have more people than just their immediate family and friends to save. rhysand is literally the most powerful high lord in history, and he can’t even control the “court of nightmares” or the illyrians and just complains about them like some kind of altruist. how hewn city still has power while the IC go through kardashian type drama is ridiculous. especially when mor was almost subjected to that fate they openly criticize, but continue to ignore. mor has trauma from the hewn court, but no one acknowledges the women who still live in that reality?

i mean imagine seeing mor and high lady feyre, women, having so much power, and then just slowly realizing nothing is changing.

and absolutely no one talk to me about how the IC heard how nesta was being groomed to marry the highest bidder, then proceeded to ask her to seduce the highest bidder. i scream and fall to my knees. how they can see emerie’s cut wings and not beg for forgiveness for failing her and the rest of the people they swore to protect. and this is JUST about the crimes against women, not even as a whole.

saddest part of elia’s story is that she didn’t even get to haunt the narrative. her death literally meant nothing to no one except for dorne/house martell. no, instead show!lyanna, the woman who ran away with her husband gets the sympathy and her legacy lives on. her ghost haunts robert/cersei/ned, but barely anyone even mentions elia’s name except for oberyn. elia died is such a tragic and cruel way with her children, and will never receive justice because to do so would harm lyanna’s memory.

and i don’t blame book!lyanna, because she was young and most likely a victim herself, i would like to think she’d be angry that elia died like that “for her.” i literally fall to my knees and sob anytime i think of my poor sweet beautiful angel elia and her babies:(

Been seeing a lot of Elain hate on my page recently and it’s been BOTHERING me.

I’ve seen so many people criticize the way Elain treated Nesta in ACOSF. Like sorry? Was Elain supposed to sit there and tolerate being berated, and blamed for her father’s death? Like yes, Nesta was going through a lot. She was finally being forced to process her trauma, and obviously she isn’t going to be the most pleasant person, going through a withdrawal of sorts. And while Nesta is healing through her pain, that doesn’t mean Elain has to sit there as Nesta lashes out at her. Nesta was obviously projecting on both of her sisters, and it would be unhealthy on both ends if they had tolerated and enabled her behavior (cough! cough! Cassian!!) Just because someone is going through a low point doesn’t mean you have to keep yourself down with them.

Anyways, I love Nesta and I wish her healing journey wasn’t so shallow and rushed. Her actual trauma and the way she copes is so complexed and realistic it’s sad when people sum her up to just being a bitch. But that doesn’t mean the people around her cannot stand up to her, or call her out when needed. (Not including the IC im not even gonna get into how much they pissed me off through acosf, I mean her sisters.)
