Some more drawings of the cast as humans, this time some residents from Floor 2 and 1. Ernest is coming in the next batch.
As trivia, I try to draw these from memory first, to capture what I personally remember about each person (and sometimes going back if I feel I didn't get it right). Hence why some details may be wrong.
Some headcanons, thoughts down below. Beware spoilers for certain characters, mostly relating to astronomers.
1st Page
Lyle: I saw human designs of him, immediately went "yep, that's Lyle" and see no need to mess with perfection. As Jeanne put it, despite being incredible different he's really not that different as a cursed.
Summer: I imagine her to be a dainty person, a contrast to her inner psyche and apartment.
Harriet: Long. She's just... long. Her face, her hair, her height. One of the tallest women in the building. Still, nothing compared to Hellen.
Sophie: Has the best smile. Hair's always a mess, Harriet has tried to keep it under control but by the end of the day it's back to being a crow's nest.
Jeanne: Looking at her sprite now, she shouldn't have bangs. Either way, a though lady.
2nd Page
Typewrither: Young man obsessed with old-timey literature. Also absurdly tall. Him, taxidermy and Hellen are the giants of the building.
Eugene: I really like the headcanons that he's got some face scars.
Dan's Mom: She turned out way too old. If I redraw her she'll gain at least 10 years back on her life.
Dan: Same ol' Dan. My apologies, I suck at drawing bald people.
Leigh: She rarely smiled before becoming cursed. It was oddly weird to draw her with a ponytail...
3rd-4th Page
Aster: The astronomers are BY FAR the hardest to draw. For Aster I landed on the long-haired design on the bottom, though it's a close call with the stereotypical professor look. He has glasses, but doesn't always wear them, instead letting them hang around his neck.
Hellen: She has deep wrinkles under her eyes that match the way her face warped after becoming cursed (and it's a small nod to Itachi from Naruto).
Audrey: Ah, this is one of those where you can take it in any direction. I wanted her to look cozy. She smells of tobacco.
5th Page
Sybil: Not entirely happy with this one, I was kinda tired. It's a start.
Aurelius: The youngest of the astronomers, always nervous. He loves their dress code because he has an excuse to hide his face.
Jasper: Looks perpetually angry and isn't the most well-kempt man, even before the visit. Sybil still finds him handsome and tries to cheer him up when he gets self-conscious.
Frederic: The most painter-looking painter that has ever painted...
Fabrice: Who is misnamed Maurice. Fred's friend who allegedly turned into the rat king (dunno if that's canon or not). Hates rats. But also looks like one. Life isn't kind to this man, neither pre- nor post-visit.
I've always been curious how the people in Look Outside looked before everything happened. Made a bunch of sketches a while ago, thought I'd clean them up but that never happened, so might as well post the sketches as they are.
First up is the Third Floor. I did actually try and draw Spine, but I was never happy with how she turned out so I'll save her for later. Maybe if I ever tackle the meat dimension, I'll draw her (and her buddies) then.
Some thoughts and headcanons below!
The "down-on-their-luck middle aged men" trio
Sam: Has unusually large and prominent eyes, the kind that makes him stick out in a crowd. Hence why so many in the building recognised him despite being a shut-in.
Vincent: Asshole, but unlike Marcus he's a good guy deep down and has his limits. Somehow knows everybody in town.
Serge: The wounded neighbour, or Larry as I dubbed him before I learned of his half-canon name. I like to think everyone in-universe keeps forgetting what he's called and it drives him crazy.
He's constantly anxious. When drawing this I was struggling with hair loss, so he gets to have alopecia too.
Joel's Family
Clint: I didn't realise he had a beard until I saw fan art of him, so I had to tack it on. He's a few years younger than Sam.
Madison: Both her and her husband look a little dishevelled, in the way you'd expect from parents of two little kids and a baby.
Joel: Looks a lot like his father. While I didn't draw it, I like the idea that he had a mole under his left eye that everyone used to compliment.
Benjamin: Wants to look exactly like his big brother, much to Joel's annoyance.
Rosie: Cute as a button. Clint and Madison were in for a surprise when she came along, because she decided to be a very difficult and fussy baby. They've looked pretty tired as a result.
The Students
Louis: Or croc guy, as I couldn't recall his name. Awkward introvert and most definitely a furry. Looks kinda plain. I can't remember if this was canon or not, but I like the theory that him and his roommates are students. They moved in recently.
Pierre: After drawing him I realised I'd drawn an adult Steven Universe, and honestly that kinda fits. He's fairly tall and broad, a contrast to the cute clown form he takes during most of the game.
Kealey: Neatness does not exist for this woman. She's high-energy and excited just about everything. Has braces.
Charlie: A.k.a. bug guy. Tempted to redraw this one. Either way, he's a fairly attractive dude and popular at his college. Maybe he can still score with entomologists.
Others
"Taxidermy": This guy went through so many redesigns and wound up my favorite. He's absurdly tall (maybe even taller than Hellen) and likes to wear self-made baggy clothes that hide his thin frame. A true weirdo.
Edwin: Thought he'd be a pain to figure out because "mass of telescopes" doesn't tell you much about someone's appearance. But I got him down on attempt one. You can see how elements of taxidermy's scrapped designs lived on in Edwin.
He's an average-looking guy with half-moon glasses. Has a burn mark, everyone keeps thinking he was in some dramatic incident but the truth is he spilled hot coffee on himself.
"Pompom": A short woman who happened to have a cold on the day of the visit.
A while back I saw some cool fan art of Leigh dressed up for the Landlord's Apartment, and it got me thinking - what if everyone changed when they entered an area to match its environment?
I think my favorite is Aster. Put a hat on him and the cosplay is complete. Though I'm quite fond of Spider too. And speaking off, here's an extra when I was trying to figure out how the Hornet cosplay would work.
Hello world! I've been drawing so much Look Outside fan art lately I decided it was time to create an art space again. This blog is going to be a generalist place, but for now it's probably gonna be a bit of Look Outside because it's my current brain bug.
This started with me wanting to understand how the basement worked and not being able to find a good overview, and then it kinda expanded to the rest of the apartment complex. Threw in my take on Floor 1 for good measure too. Areas are based on environment, with regular apartments and rooms considered part of the "hallway biome" of each floor.
The lack of information and omission of certain areas is intentional. I wanted these maps to be something you can show a new player, helping them get a sense of the layout and little more. They still have to discover key areas and rooms themselves, and secret areas stay secret.
