I still don’t get why Bro types think it is an insult to yell “HEY, ELVIRA” at me from car windows. Don’t they know that I would kill to look this good?

Wardrobe and stretchiness.
This upcoming move has given me the nudge I needed to really get to work on redoing my wardrobe.
As an aging Goth, while my heart yearns for the fanciest of frills and tight lacing and leather and whatnot, reality is I don’t really have the means for that. Okay hold up.
Let me say something about Goth and other subcultures that irritates the shit out of me. The insistence that you cannot be a…

Reminder: Gothic Film 101: Sunset Boulevard is happening tonight at 7pm. We’ll be having a brief introduction to the film, watching it, and discussing the gothic elements afterward. Free to the public - Scarecrow Video is located at 5030 Roosevelt Ave NE, Seattle - Wa. 98105
My mother told me once that getting old was a blessing and a curse - on the one hand, she doesn’t have to worry about men trying to coax her into cars, on the other she is now invisible. Older women, no longer considered useful by society as baby-makers nor sexual objects, are ignored. We felt it was important to question the obsession with youth, and photograph two amazing older women, Lina and Pam.
Emma, our director, has her own reasons for the project. Having started the brand at 28, she’s now 41, and looking at how age has affected her own sexuality and it’s connection with her brand. Read more about her thoughts here.

Just a few flowers I’d put in the “goth section” of my dream garden, alongside gargoyles. I’d probably throw in some Persian shield for foliage, maybe some other dark coleus.

Scarecrow Video is located at 5030 Roosevelt Way NE, Seattle, Wa. 98015
I really hate the phrase ‘dress your age’, because it insinuates that once you reach a certain age, generally over the age of 22 to 24, you’re supposed to ‘hang up’ your fishnets and your sequins and dress ‘modest’.
When in reality, there is no dress code for your age.
"We are the first and second generations to age into goth, and we have to stand up and say that there is room for older women in this subculture."
Myself and a bunch of other Eldergoth women were interviewed for this article!

What's the eldergoth scene like?
Tired, a lot of the time. We’re lured out of our tired, hermit-like ways for big fancy events, or for reunion tours of favorite bands. A lot of us want to go out to club nights more often, but work schedules / family life / chronic illnesses / budgets make it difficult.
But given a chance, we will flock together in dark clusters, talking about bands we’ve seen, books we’ve read, clubs that no longer exist, and makeup and fashion tips we’ve figured out as we’ve gotten older.
I hope I speak for the rest of the eldergoths when I say that we also love watching the newer members of the subculture learn about things. Seeing folks newly-giddy with enthusiasm helps rekindle our own dark joy.
I once found someone who had only seen the Addams Family movies from the 90s, having no idea that there was a show. That there was a cartoon (two!). That there were comic strips. That there was so much more.
I felt the air in my lungs grow a bit softer and my bones grow a bit stronger as I started shoving book recommendations and Netflix and everything else and oh cara mia I am feeling that moonglow yet again.
Everything you desperately love has a history behind it. Or inspirations behind it that it is built upon (or, most likely, both). The joy of growing older is pulling these threads together, and when possible, sending them along.
Seattle Elder Goth Meetup!
Wednesday February 22nd. Northstar Cafe - 8580 Greenwood Ave N. (its a big, green building that used to be a Chinese restaurant) 8 P.M.
This is an informal, hang out and get to know each other event - you don't have to dress up unless you want to.
Eldergoths at the Women’s March!
I feel this video was more successful than the companion video, 40 Years of Women’s Goth Style. This one felt less costume-y, and more authentic.
Also, I predictably covet the shirt, coat, and cape from the 90s vampire look. My cliches, I embrace them.
I would like one of each, please.
