âItâs science, all the words are ridiculous,â she laughed.  âI think you said the same thing when you first applied for the internship all those years ago. And now look at you!â
Jane smiled and shook her head as Darcy rambled on in that way she so often did. It was true, the scientist was hoping that her class would have enough students that shared her same passion and drive. But of course, Jane Fosters were rare, and the truth was many of her students would be there to fulfill a specific university requirement. Very few would be there because of their love of the source material, and even fewer would be there because of any interest in her.
Unless, of course, they wanted to ask about Thor, which she fully anticipated.
âWell, I know how college students are. But thank you for the vote of confidence. I really think it will go well, but you never really know until youâre actually doing the job.â She paused.
âYou know, I donât⊠think I need to practice. Not right now, at least. I want to catch up with you instead.â
â Yeah, now look at me -- still stumbling over all these goddamn ridiculous science words. â Sheâs grinning though, fond and amused. Janeâs right; after such a long time beside Jane and Erik (and now Tony and, to some extent, Bruce), Darcy is more familiar than ever with all kinds of science-y words and ideas. She feels enriched for it, if sheâs honest, but sheâd never admit it out loud.Â
What she will always, emphatically, enthusiastically admit out loud is how much she loves Jane and how brilliant the other woman is. So she waves away the gratitude for her words -- Darcy will always live a Jane Foster Appreciation Life.
The whole shift in the momentum of their conversation leaves her reeling for a split second, but then sheâs smiling and leaning her hand on her chin, eyes sparkling.
â You mean you want juicy, juicy gossip? Cuz as much as Iâd love to help you out, Iâve got nothinâ for ya. I go to school and draw stuff, I go to work and help Pepper and make sure Tony doesnât blow anything up, I go home and eat and cuddle with my boys, then I sleep. Wash, rinse, repeat. â
