i'm sure queer people will love seeing cishets throwing slurs at a gay character and not letting him say the word gay and being forced to come out and not letting the lesbian character say she's a lesbian and making her break up with her girlfriend in the epilogue for no reason and giving them zero build up and not even showing their lips while kissing when they never did that for straight couples in the show.. and they never let Robin say girlfriend btw

For this pride month I just want to remind the byler community to never feel stupid for believing that byler could've happened, because it should've happened. We should've gotten to see our charecters get their happy ending, we should've gotten that representation in a show that isn't strictly a queer show. We deserve to be represented in any genre, we deserve to be treated normally.

You aren't stupid for having hope, you aren't naive for believing in good writing, you aren't ignorant for thinking that pure queer love and joy could be shown on screen on such a mainstream and popular show.

Queer charecters should not be strictly for niche and unpopular shows

Queer characters should not be doomed to bad writing

Queer charecters should not only be background charecters

Queer charecters deserve to be main charecters and well written and well rounded charecters that don't fall into harmful stereotypes

Queer charecters deserve to be treated the way that we all thought and hoped and prayed that byler would be treated.

It didn't happen for Mike and Will, and it hurts. It hurts a lot. It can make you feel hopeless about the lgbtq+ community, it can make you feel like things won't get better after all. But no matter how much you may have been beaten down by this world, no matter how awful shit is right now, no matter how much it feels like society is regressing, just keep going. Keep having that hope that you had for byler, keep believing that it'll get better because it WILL get better.

imagine mike and lucas arriving to the wrecked castle byers mere moments after will was taken, having heard his screams, and mike just falls to his knees starts hyperventilating and disappears into his head while lucas panics at yells at him to get back the fuck up because they need to find will, but mike just feels in his heart that they're too late and that will is long gone and and then many weeks pass and will doesn't show up and it takes mike ages to return to castle byers but when he does so he rebuilds it and is crying the whole time... but when he's done he doesn't go inside because will isn't there to let him in and also he's forgotten what the last password was and that makes him feel sick to his stomach.

byler first months of established relationship being all shy and blushy with each other because will can't believe that mike is finally his and mike can't believe that will fell for him 🚬

how mike and will manage to be so similar yet so fundamentally different truly is beyond me.

they're both self-sacrificial and self-destructive people, they're both autistic and gay and gender non-conforming and they both like to keep their problems to themselves rather than opening up to their loved ones. they're both nerds and losers but also sassy and they both feel guilty because they love each other, but they do so for different reasons. mike feels guilty for loving will because he's... well, he's will, and because he's with el and therefore thinks that being in love for will makes him selfish and a bad person, plus he struggles with comphet; will feels guilty for loving mike because he has internalised homophobia and also probably because he's with el and he loves el and would never wish heartbreak upon her.

mike tends to bottle his feelings up until he can't anymore, and that's typically when he lashes out on his loved ones. he's snarky and a bit of a bitch but always makes sure to soften his voice and his general demeanor around will; will, on the other hand, comes across as soft-spoken and shy but doesn't hesitate to snap at mike when he deems it necessary. he, too, can be a bitch when he wants to be, and he hates it when his friends and family treat him like he's fragile and might break any second, because that's not who he is at all. mike hates feeling like he's not useful.

mike is a writer yet struggles to put his feelings into words on the rare occasion that he tries to express them; will is well-spoken and an artist. the one time mike manages to hold a coherent and perfectly good monologue where he truly opens up, exposing all of the rawest parts of himself, is when he tells will just how much he means to him in the hopes of pulling him out of his possession, if only momentarily, and the one time will struggles to get his words out and tell mike the full truth is when he pours out all his love for him and disguises it as someone else's.
