#me before making a decision
fireafly:
I belong in French pubs where boys offer me a light for my cigarette and ask to dance at midnight…

“You’re mistaking sheer ruthlessness for imagination. An honest mistake.”
He made a mental calculation on the accuracy of the statement and he was satisfied, letting her spark him into the present. His own smile matched hers, because ah, he loved to watch her work. Better on this side of it than the other….in certain circumstances.
His own mind wandered.
“Don’t have too much fun. We need some of them left.”
Elle gave him a look.
A look that clearly asked not to state the obvious, because of course she knew not to kill everyone. Retrained fun was the worst kind, but she had her own battle to fight against herself. They were in flying, metal, death box after all.
“I always have exactly the perfect amount of fun--thanks.”
She stepped around him and shoved the steward’s cart in front of her. A distraction, followed by the crackle of electricity and a few punches, because well it was just that easy.
Down to one man and she was holding him in a head lock, a jolt coursing though her. He fell limply from her arms.
“I’m sure he’s fine.”

“No time like the present, darling,” he said. “I’ll be right behind you. One way or another.”
“Creativity is a gift of yours, isn’t it?”
Her mind always went to all the wrong places-- or right depending on how one looked at it. Her smirk was probably the biggest indicator on what she thought about that, but she said nothing and simply cupped his face, that subtle current always running through her skin when it met his.
“I’ll clear the way, honey.”

“Ugh.”
It was a real feeling inside her, meaning unclear as was most of what she was. There was an outline of her past, blurred at the edges. Elle could remember the feelings, the faces, the false sense of purpose.
No names. No ‘deets’.
“Who knows why I do anything that I do?”
Her eyes followed a dancing spark of blue as it moved across her fingers. It had come back to her in a way her memory simply never could. She had a feeling it had always been that way anyway.
“Do you think that fire burns out when you finally reach the end?

“Now don’t overreact,” Adam said. “Try to not overreact.”
He put his hands lightly on her shoulders but bracingly. Bracingly.
“Do you want to …attend…”
He took a breath.
“University…”
The head tilt was the question mark.
She gave him what was almost an accusing look, because deep down it was something she’d considered. Accusation dissolved into confusion and then...
“University?”
Now that she heard out loud, she felt the doubt start to creep in. She almost laughed at how ridiculous the whole thing seemed.
“Oh, I don’t know. I’ve never thought about it.”
A lie. A straight faced lie.

His eye fluttered closed despite the mischief lighting his own face. The tender sensation upon his injury, dangerous, the wrong move would hurt like a mother. He wasn’t sure what was worse, the pain, or the tease of this softness…
And then of course– the punch.
His eyes shot open with the zap of her finer. Vic stared at her momentarily thrown by the game, but not entirely put off.
“My hero,” he murmured. Almost at a loss, staring after her still craving the warmth that may have been.
“Perhaps, before I go,” He pushed off the couch then, eager to find her once again, despite the lingering strain in his muscles. “A little something to help me sleep.
Well, he had a power all of his own. She couldn’t deny him for too long. She cared enough to be careful, but it only dulled her hand in the slightest. Elle turned on her heel, taking a step into him and letting the closeness speaking for itself.
She smiled up at him, almost innocently. Fingers pressed against what was undoubtedly the tender parts of his bruised ribs. She was gentle though-- something she managed for now. Flush against him, she pulled his face down and gave him a long passionate kiss.
A masterful skill really. She had left herself breathless and took a moment before saying anything more.
“Anymore and...you won’t be getting any sleep.”

Molly shook her head in anger and sadness. She wished Elle could see what she meant. Lord knows where Molly would be right now if it hadn’t been for her being saved by the beautiful blonde so long ago.
“I could be a hero. Like you.” She reaches out for her hand to hold close to her heart. “I’ve never done anything so brave before. If I do this, I’ll go down in history.”
There was a tightness in her chest. Elle shook her head, an adamant no. A hero. There were too many people trying to be heroes. Enough people trying to save this world that was set on ending itself.
“I’m not a hero, Molly. I’m selfish and I’d rather watch the world crash and burn than see you die for anyone.”
She took the girl’s hand and squeezed it in return.
“I didn’t save you just so that you give up your life like this. You want to be brave? You want to go down in history? Then, you make sure you live to see it.”

He would say she shouldn’t but here was the real truth.
Adam took her hand and became to move her away from the Resistance’s true goal for her. To be a suicide mission. He thought–wildly–that he could destroy this whole ship just for her. He could destroy that weapon powered by light itself and he could just take her home.
Back to earth.
Back to their world–somehow.
This galaxy. It was almost beyond him. Almost. Instead, he held her tightly and as the stormtroopers raced towards him:
“I have this one. Handle the rest. Out of my way.”
He wasn’t one to sacrifice the many for the one. They said that made him cold. But he had changed his mind one time long ago.
“You’ve made new friends,” he said, switching his comlink off. This starship was a labyrinth. “They brought you here to die. They used you.”
Yet again.
Even with her clouded thoughts she knew his words were true. A greater truth. It was her fate to be used. She should expect now. Someone had told her to stop fighting it---fate-- a voice in her head.
Elle followed the nameless man, eyes darting between the hand that towed her through the grated floors, past the smell of smoke and rumbling machinery. An alarm blared overhead.
“This place is going to blow. They actually did it.”
She wasn’t sure if she she was supposed to be impressed.
“I remember I didn’t like flying, but everything here requires it,” she said with a hint of bitterness.

Of course. This had always been the problem. The kid was still a good to the bone. Elle should feel relieved that all those years spent together hadn’t broken her...or something. She happened to be very good at that.
Elle shook her head.
“They’re not worth it, Molly. They definitely don’t deserve you-- and I include myself in the collective they.”

Adam took the words like a blow to the heart.
In a way, it was, and the only pure way to hurt him. He looked down for a moment, still feeling the burning on his lips (all in his head) and he closed his eyes, hanging on. His vast temper and his too-keen memory, it was as if he was reliving his life with her in a moment, a second, and she could be killed in the same moment.
So he emerged and opened his eyes, and made his decision. His heart could never hurt her. Not now.
“No, you don’t. But you will,” he said. His eyes flickered behind her and he realized….. “Elle. Come with me.”
Elle canted her head. She couldn’t think of reason not go with him on her own. She knew, she him, even if his name was out her grasp. Her eyes never left him. There was a pain behind them, a throbbing. Something trying to emerge through iron doors. Feeling and memories seeped through each time they came apart.
She winced, stepping back and placing her hand to her head.
“I remember. I remember.”
Another image of him. Her hand in his, only she didn’t recognize them. Her hands...She turned it over now in confusion.
What was his name? What was his name? It mattered and yet it didn’t change that fact that she--
“I-- I trust you.”
catchthatregenerator
He didn’t hesitate and feeling the energy still between them, he reached out and cupped her face in his hands. Real power still threatening to bite.
“Elle.”
She had been mistaken for some Sith in the communication, babbling about lightning power and he had been sent to kill her.
“We are always on the wrong side, aren’t we?” he asked. For him, there was a sudden doubt–did she remember him? He leaned in and pressed his lips hard against hers.
The name was hers. She had known this for some time now. It came back in pieces sometimes, but she know who she was. She knew what she was. Someone who didn’t belong here, surrounded by the unfamiliar. That’s all it was to her since she’d woken up...
But then, there was him. Elle closed her eyes, her hand still curled and raised as if she could still attack at any moment, only now it seemed the electricity was everywhere else pulsing---alive. The hand touched his face and she brought him closer.
She knew him! She did! She waited for his name to come back to her, but her mind came up blank-- pulled elsewhere once more. There was someplace she had to be...but she couldn’t pull away, not completely. Her grip was still on him, the space only enough to breathe, to look at him.
“You.... I remember you.”
