His breathing came in ragged gasps and sucked in the crisp air. The cold, cave air encouraged warmer clothes but Volkner felt sweat starting to form down his back and would pull at his black shirt to relieve himself of the sticking fabric. Rocky terrains and steep slopes made Volkner regret not working out for the last year or five, his muscles burned and slowed the more he tried to push. Mt. Silver proved its notorious reputation hours ago, and he had a feeling it'll only get harder the further he goes.
Even so, he never felt more alive.
Sharp blue eyes pinpoints the sound of a Parasect among the chipped rocks and, with a flick of his wrist, instructs Luxray into stealth mode, who stalked his prey with controlled, light steps. The insect pokemon had a second to react before the strong jaws of a blinding Electric Fang all it saw. The attack would've been a one-hit KO.
A booming bark distracted Luxray long enough for the Parasect to scuttle away and the annoyed electric pokemon whirled around to challenge the rude intruder.
ϟ "Luxray," ϟ Volkner warns. In the partial darkness of the cave, illuminated by Luxray's natural static glow, he saw the intimidating shape of a Houndoom. There was no reason Flint would be here, of course, and for it to be wild was too far-fetched but what did he know of Mt.Silver's native wild pokemon.
There was one sure way to be sure. He feels for an empty pokeball within his jacket and keeps an eye out for a trainer, perhaps trailing behind their pokemon.
Silence.
His mouth forms a tight line before swiftly pulling out the pokeball, ready to throw it when the sound of footsteps approaching gives him pause. He notices Luxray's fur bristling and fights to make out the human form in the darkness.
ϟ "...who's there." ϟ He offers, voice quiet but challenging.

Nimbasa City seemed to breathe with electrifying life. The night sky slept but all attractions, from flashing rides to pounding sport shows, were in full working order and doors to dark room enticed people to take a gander. The aroma of various amusement park food swam in the air, savory to sweet and begged to be tested. As the second most populated city in the world, Nimbasa City's prosperous entertainment filled Volkner with admiration and respect for the engineers and creators.
But that was it. Staying up late was no contest. However, Volkner preferred to relax in the hotel they rented for the week. Having traveled far and not too long ago, he hoped to take things easy, even if Flint was raring to go. Not being pushed and shoved along; body slowly becoming sore with each blow and the overly luminous city aiding a dull, throbbing migraine.
A quick side glance to the fire elite next to him is all Volkner offers before he abruptly stops in front of the impressionable Pikachu statue. He licks off the remaining cotton candy, the persuasion item and one of the reasons he came, off his fingers before fishing out his phone. One swipe and a click took a magnificent, but bland photo.
"Done. Ah, what a day it was-." The last held a hint of playful sarcasm. He muffles a yawn and stuffs another candy piece at the same time.
"Let's go back, I'm fucking tired from the jet lag and battle encounters. Besides-" He absentmindedly flicks a bit of candy at Flint. "-we need to be up early and you’re a pain to wake up.”

Just having gotten back from a trip from the Unova region, Volkner was drowning in jet lag and pure exhaustion. And it showed. There was only one thing he looked forward to. The blissful, freeing feeling of throwing off his shoes, changing into clean comfortable clothes and dive bombing straight into his soft, welcoming bed in the comfort of his home. But he knew checking up on his gym was priority and also future prevention from his gym trainer's sore accusation. Also souvenirs had to be passed out or feel the wrath of multiple thundershocks.
As he walks up the steps to the gym, he notes a single trainer outside the building. He doesn't question why she was standing there, too tired to care, and focuses on not dropping his coffee and gift bags hanging up his arms. Maybe he should have focused on where he was stepping. Thinking there is an extra step, he yelps when his feet slams past the phantom stair and momentarily losing his balance, dignity, and grip on his coffee.
He cringes at the sound of the coffee cup's meeting ground but is relieved it didn't spill on the gifts.
...ah. His blood runs cold. Tentative blue eyes trails up from the opened cup, to the coffee trail and, as he feared, over the shoes of the trainer from before. Great lord Arceus, what a way to welcome him back home. At least it was black combat boots. She wouldn't feel the burning liquid but if not washed, she'll be smelling over burnt coffee for weeks.
ϟ "I'm...really sorry. You're not hurt or burned anywhere?" ϟ His monotone voice was no surprise but his eyes fretfully examined her for any signs of discomfort. He damned hoped she wasn't and it didn't hurt to check.

Away from the waves reach and shaded from the blazing sun, sat Volkner and his Raichu. A notepad in one hand and a pen swirls around absentmindedly in the other. His brows furrows in deep thought. His usual frown somehow seems grumpier. In fact, he was so lazer focused he failes to notice Raichu pulling at the blue and black jacket tied loosely around his waist, somehow successful and padding away around the cliff's corner.
It took a while. Eventually Volkner feels the usual warmth of Raichu and his jacket combined missing from his back and lower half. Deciding it was time to return home, Volkner takes his time cracking every sore bone in his body and calls out to his pokemon.
He is only meet with silence. With a quiet sigh, Volkner closes the notepad and tucks the pen behind his ear. He follows Raichu's obvious footprints left in the sand around the corner and sees a sight that cracks his disgruntled, sour face. A rasied eyebrow was the only indication of his amusement.
The electric mouse was trying his very hardest to give the tropical dressed women Volkner's jacket. When the jacket falls to the ground, unaccepted, Raichu puffs its cheeks and tries again. Knowing Raichu, he was probably worried about her being unprepared for the the sudden temperature drops that was Sunyshore. The region was slowly blooming into summer but next to the ocean, one could never tell.
ϟ "Raichu must really like you." ϟ He approaches but does nothing to stop what was happening. The wind picks up and with it carries slightly colder wind, a silent promise of a frigid night. ϟ "He wouldn't give my stuff away like this if he didn't trust someone. Pokemon are instinctively better at reading others after all." ϟ
[[ overdue introduction time!
I’m Ferro playing as your truly, ϟ Volkner ϟ. I’ve played him for a while but I was always...limited(?) cautious(?) in how I played him. So! I can’t wait to give my updated son a revamped spin so if you want a specific thread/plot, let’s hc together!
Also, like this post for a starter and I’ll write it up with all the love and creativity I can muster ϟ ϟ see u on the dashboard
