Esmeralda finally decided to get out of bed. She didn’t exactly know what time it was. All she knew was that she lied in bed way too long but the sun was still up so she was good.
Usually when she left the Ilvermorny dorm she would go to the Great Hall for food but she was feeling quite out of it today. In the corner of her eye, the Forbidden Forest called to her.
It’s only late morning, Elena was already finished flipping through her Daily Prophet. An exasperated sigh came from her, as if none of these article was pointing out any specific clues or things about the latest missing student. The blonde walking through the door manage to catch her attention.
Helios jerked up from where he’d slumped over on his desk, and blinked tiredly in the direction of the Divination professor. She was saying something about fate and destiny but he couldn’t be bothered to figure out the finer details. He just wanted to go back to the Durmstrang dormitories to sleep.
He turned to the person next to him. “Are we supposed to be able to follow this nonsense?” He mumbled, yawning.
Elena offered the other a shrug. She leaned on her chair, while her fingers tapping against the surface of the table. Nonsense is the way to put it, as though the subject in particular was never part of her forte. She’d rather be somewhere else, than being here.
“--Sadly, yes. I don’t think we have much choice either.”
Valentino smirked at the sight of his cousin, and he ignored her demand, shutting his book instead. He and Elena had a…complicated relationship to say the least, but he never turned down the opportunity to push her buttons. “I’m reading, Elena. You should try it sometime,” he stood up, setting the book aside and walked over to her, the amused expression still fixed on his face. “Staring out the window isn’t going to change the fact that Ines is probably next, you know that, right?” He said, nonchalantly, taking a seat on a desk next to her. “That’s what this is about right? That Hogwarts girl is dead and now you’re all freaked out.”
Elena wasn’t even bother to hold back a scoff at the glimpse of the book he carries. Her eyes fixated at his features, not even a flinch, as he takes the seat on the empty desk next to her. Valentino isn’t always the person she wants to associate with. But, he’s still family. Ironic for her, as if the first instinct that came to mind was to avoid him, unless Ines was around; she knew her sister manage to outwit his scornful remark. But, for now, the presence of someone familiar will do the job -- to aide her forlorn moment, even if she had to deal with him.
“--You don't think by pointing things out, means you know about everything, right?”
“See now I’m know seer, to be honest I cheated my way through divinations” he laughed, thinking wouldn’t his teacher have seen that happening? —Regardless he went on, “so I really can’t say what we do doesn’t have the potential to be come a….as you say, ‘life threatening incident’ ”. Shrugging before he leaned back in his chair, “But I guess if we both make a plan on what we want to make the room like, we can focus on making it safe.”
Elena’s fingers came to wrap around the necklace that hung between her collarbone, a small silver pendant that seemed too elegant to compare to her casual attire. She moved the pendant back and forth against the chain absent-mindedly, like a nervous twitch or someone loosening their tie when the situation felt too stuffy and tight. She doesn’t even know why he screamed bad choices, as if she was going to regret what she’s about to say next.
“So…I get things are a bit shit as of lately but classes have been postponed till later, and I was thinking it’s a new year—new me. I was wondering if you wanted to join me for some celebratory fun. Blow some steam off, y’know?” he smiled, a devilish delight hidden behinds his eyes, “What do you say?”
She’d hate to agree with him. Everything seems to fell off, away from her grasp. The idea of distracting herself seems too tempting to pass. Although, the glint of impish look on his eyes, makes her feel uneasy about what he had in mind.
“--Just to be clear, if I say yes, none of us will involved in any kind of life threatening incident?”
Valentino had been tucked away in an empty classroom, completely engrossed in the book he was reading. He’d managed to nick Magick Moste Evile from the restricted section of the Hogwarts library, and he didn’t intend to give it back until he’d read it cover-to-cover a few times. He hadn’t had the chance to read in a good few weeks, the first task and it’s aftermath taking up most of his attention. But he’d needed some time to himself, away from all of the people and asinine questions. Val had charmed the cover of the book to look innocuous, but he was still irritated when someone came into the classroom and disturbed his concentration.
So far, Elena had been doing a terrible job at avoiding the growing crowd. Every single corner she went, the only thing she heard was the death of the girl who was found in front of the halls months ago. The image of a mangled girl, lying lifeless in the hospital bed was scarred her mind, and almost driven her mad into imagined things. That girl’s fate could be anyone, including her sister’s. The classroom she’s in, again, wasn’t empty. Instead, she found someone’s eyes on her, which manages to send her to the edge. She wasn’t in the mood to deal with his curt attitude, yet she’s in desperate need to find a place where someone will not mention about the girl.
“--Don’t mind me. You can continue.. whatever you’re up to. I’ll be on that corner, staring outside the window.”

Which is completely understandable.

Although, since Marian Thomas’s body was discovered in front of the Great Hall entrance, she begins to doubt that there’s a chance for her sister to make it out alive.

Christmas, Día de Muertos.
