DC x Sonic the Hedgehog: Nat’s Review
Their cute little outfits. Like, you know I gotta say it. Put a hedgehog in a cute little outfit and I am DONE FOR.
Special shoutout to whichever artist decided to give Silver as Green Lantern green eyeliner… I am indebted to you. You deserve one million dollars
The premise. Specifically, not just having the characters interact but having moments where the mobians are in the DC universe and the justice league are in the Sonic universe.
The pairings. Sonic and Flash was of course a given. Knuckles and Superman was EXCELLENT. Batman and Shadow also a great pairing. Tails and Cyborg as the tech support team was really great. They gotta find a way to get communication between the worlds because Amy and Wonder Woman deserve to be best friends forever. And the surprise hit — Silver and Green Lantern! I thought they worked really well together.
Teaser ending. No idea what plans are for the future, but I do like that they kept things open. Would love to see more of Lex Luthor and Eggman together.
The writing. I felt like the writing was very much catering to those who did not have prior knowledge of either of the franchises. We weren’t really getting the ‘full’ characters in that sense but the Cliff Notes versions of all of them.
The pacing. There were SOOO many moments that I wanted to spend more time on. On top of that, a lot of jumping from point A to point B without acknowledging how we got there.
Both of these gripes boil down to the fact that the crossover was incredibly short — only five issues. That’s just not a lot of time to work with in terms of character development and deeper storytelling.
Overall, a cute and fun adventure!
