3rd wedding anniversary
jonathandubois·:
“No I didn’t say that. I think I pictured married people planning this together after the first year , because you’re not smitten anymore, the honeymoon is over, then people forget you know ? it becomes just a day. “ he licked his lips. “I never thought I would be stuck in smitten for three years now. “ he added as a joke. He stole a kiss from Elias, probably keeping him from seeing the road, and finally settled to open the bag of chips and ate some while patiently waiting for it to magically appear in front of them, the surprise. “I shall disappoint you in not liking it then. “
He thought about it for a minute. “It’s not just a day for me, to be honest. But maybe that’s just... me.” He spoke, but quickly smiled at Jon’s comment. “Stuck, huh? You don’t s-- Hey! Jon-- The ro--” he couldn’t do anything to keep his eyes on the road while Jon kissed him. Imprudent. He loved it. But... yeah, imprudent. Elias licked his lips again then opened his mouth, turning towards him to have a chip, eyes on the road. “Please.”
Echoes of the past
jonathandubois·:
Jon handed him the bowl of popcorn when he was settled. “ I vowed to do so. but I’m happy to have helped you…” he looked down at his hands. “Not ….not many times I can do it …you are…usually not needing my help for these things …it’s nice …to…learn about your past. “
He picked in the bowl, licking his lips in small hunger. Elias listened and looked up at his husband. “... Is it really?” he asked. “I mean, my past isn’t a flower painting, nor really pretty. Aaand... yeah, you’re right, I don’t talk about these things. I’m not comfortable with negative feelings.” he sighed. “But that’s why you’re here, huh?”
ssabrandt-james·:
“Maybe not,” James said with a shrug, “But it sure does help a guilty verdict. His lawyer is already talking about making a deal, by the way. I gave him your number so I’m sure he’ll be giving you a call to talk terms. You’re welcome, by the way.”
“It does. Still isn’t systematic. That’s why torture is forbidden nowadays.” Elias took a look as his watch at the said words. “Alright. I guess I’m gonna have to talk with the victims. They always want money over anything else.”

neil-sheehan·:
Oh god, was he really this verb in a public place like this? Neil shared a bad look but didn’t reply and only took his beer to drink. He avoided his look but listened and got surprised by those words. He was still not agreeing with the fact that someone else could know what he did because it was dangerous, dangerous for him, it was just a new Damocles sword above his head. He didn’t reply, staring at an invisible point, it was what he wanted to have since the beginning, an opportunity to tell his version of the story but he just kept his mouth shut for a few seconds, maybe more. He had to first calm down, so he took a deep breath to not just keep arguing with him. Elias’s words were changing his opinion, yes he had believed that Elias would talk shit about him because he was always showing his anger, even after all those years and maybe Neil’s own regrets weren’t helping. This was affecting him, more than he would have thought, he felt like losing the confidence he built during all those years, back in shoes of his younger him, it felt weird. “Fine.” He finally said. “But not here.” He couldn’t confess his crimes in a place like this one, it was obviously too dangerous.
Elias didn’t know there was anything to add at the story honestly. He didn’t know what Neil wanted to tell him. What? There were things he didn’t know? Important enough to talk about it somewhere else? The man looked up at Neil with a certain look, melted in surprise, interest and fear, maybe. He didn’t know if he could take another truth. Loosing his parents by the hand of his former boyfriend, and beeing left by this same boyfriend. It did its damage before, was still doing some. He didn’t know if he could take anything else. But Elias kept his mouth shut for now, looked up at the waitress and contained his sighed. After a look given at his watch, Elias put the bill under his empty glass for the both of them and stood up. “Fine. Come.” He grabbed his jacket and put his glasses back on his nose before going out.
This meeting messed with Elias’ memories and one of the place he knew they wouldn’t be heard appeared quite quickly in front of them. He used to spend a lot of his time in his highschool’s sports hall. Mostly because back in the day he was alone a lot of his time and this really was for the best. Because when he wasn’t... he was either with Neil in here, or stuck in the locker rooms or the bathrooms of the building, fresh bruises on his face. He didn’t know why he chose this place, but he did. The door behind was always open and Elias quickly found himself staring at the bleacher of the room. “So --” He passed a hand on his neck and saw an abandonned basketball ball on the floor he took for himself. “What is it I don’t know? You were helped? Ooor-- it wasn’t you but a shapeshifting mutant, one of those shitheads who wanted to see you down?” He frowned. “I remember those.” The same who kept bullying him as well. Elias turned the ball between his hands before throwing it directly in the basket. “God, I still am good.”

neil-sheehan·:
“What?” That was a bad surprised and the calm that Neil had in his look totally disappeared. “You told him?” Neil clenched his jaw and took a deep breath to stay calm. “You had no right to do that.” He finally said and avoided his look, closing his eyes one second before more arguing. “And don’t fucking tell me it was because of a stupid reason like ‘I love him’ or ‘I trust him’.” He turned back his look on him. “Because even if it sounds like a really good excuse, you had no fucking right, because it also touches my life and obviously you said your side of the story.” He had a nervous laugh. “What did you said? That was a monster uh? That I did horrible things with no reasons? Because that is what you think right? For you the story is simple right, you always believed you decided to fucking believe, you never doubted right? Never you maybe thought that everything wasn’t that black? Naaaaah, you’re the fucking district attorney of this city, you always take to right judgment, you always look for all the elements.” Yeah, Neil was losing his shit, because somehow, Elias was now a traitor, stabbing him in the back.
Elias frowned. “Excuse me? No right? I decide to tell the people I want to know about how my parents died, okay?” And it was unfair towards Jon as well. He who told everything about his past to Elias. Jon deserved to know, Elias needed to be equal with him. He watched Neil lose his shit and frowned even more. It was definitely not helping him to keep his blood cool. He shook his head with a nervous laugh. “Yeah, sure. So what I’m the bad guy of the story now? Because I only know one side of the story and you believe I would talk shit about you?! I hope you know I don’t say anything I don’t know. I told the facts. I told how I felt about it all, about you. And a monster was not one of them. I also know why you did it, the same reason why I fight him back in the first place.” Elias put both his hands on his face to wipe out his facial tired expression. “So please spare me your drama, and if there’s details I don’t know shoot them already. That’s why we’re here, aren’t we?”

neil-sheehan·:
Neil didn’t felt impressed nor really sorry in front of Elias arguments, he just replied, with that same little arrogant smile. “Oh I never said it was smart. But would you have preferred that I present myself by telling him the truth? All the truth? No. And don’t tell me that you would have wanted me to never speak to him. Because I did so… it’s done and if I freaked out your not boring husband, well you can tell him that I’m sorry, I was curious and I can admit that I’ve maybe done the wrong choice.” He sighed but quickly continued, still calm. “Happy?” He asked and drank a bit before adding something else. “Oh and about the enemy thing. Breath. None of them paid me to pressure you or him. And even if someone tries, I hope you know that I will never do it you idiot.” He half-joked, letting this old nickname crossing his lips.
No he would have hate Neil if he'd told Jon their story. That was why he told his husband himself. "No I know you wouldnt do it even if you were paid. I know that. But those creep are scary. I only told you that so you understand what it's like." And he hoped he wouldn't do it again. "And yes I hoped you never spoke to him." Elias sighed again. "None of this makes me happy, Neil. But like you said it's done. And it doesn't matter anymore because he, my husband, knows. About us, the all thing." He admitted.

neil-sheehan·:
“Yeah right.” Oh, Neil will not believe that money was the only motivation that Elias had for this job, but he didn’t ask because debating about that wasn’t probably the best thing to keep the conversation chill. He tasted his beer and got surprised by the question while drinking. Shit. Neil first swallowed, half coughing and listened to him before sharing his justification. “So I really made a that big impression?” He joked but didn’t give Elias the time to reply, continued himself. “I’m kidding, just kidding Elias.” He sighed and didn’t deny their meeting. “To be honest, yeah I knew about him, told you I’m back since a while, and yeah, I’ve got plenty of time to waste. But I didn’t premeditate it. I was just in the same coffee shop that him, a coincidence that’s all.” He sighed again and looked at his beer. “And yeah I’m a curious person, I spoke to him, you can sue me for it if you want but I just spoke to him Elias, I didn’t say anything about you, about us, even about me, and if you want to know everything I just found him boring, pretty but really boring.” He drank a bit. “Nice dog tho.”
He watched him having trouble at his question and drank again his lemonade. But Elias frowned of his implication. If they were talking of anybody else, Elias would’ve follow him in his “joke” but it was Jon. No one joked on something about Jon. “Yeah, you spoke to him and one hundred percent lied about who you were and why you were talking to him, huh? I don’t think you quite understand everything here, Neil. Being the District Attorney grants you ennemies, and those justice ass suckers like you call them, they like to search into your life and go talk to your husband, put pressure on you. Your act wasn’t that smart, really not.” He sighed and played with his drink for a second. “He’s not boring.” And honestly if Elias told Neil what Jon really was, he would shut his mouth.

neil-sheehan·:
Neil didn’t reply at his reaction about Elise but he did share an honest smile. “I-Thanks.” He interrupted himself when the waitress came back with their drinks. “I’m a businessman.” He started, for now playing the game and answering Elias’s questions, those were still basic ones, he simply controlled himself to not provoke him by voluntary saying something stupid. So even if it felt like an interrogation, Neil replied, not really surprised anyway by Elias behavior. “I’ve my company, I buy things to better sell them. Easy money making but quickly boring.” He took his beer and looked at him. “I guess only one of us achieved his dream job. Well done by the way, you actually did it.” Was he proud? Yes, he was.
And he put his attention into that reply, his eyes lowered in his drink. A business man, huh? Hardly. Like he said it himself, it was too boring for him, or for the Neil he knew back then. There was something else under, as always with him, but Elias would respect that for today. “That’s -- nice.” He finally looked up at him. Clearly he wasn’t surprised that Neil didn’t do anything as high as himself. But... he needed to stay nice. “I did it yes. It takes plenty of my time, actually, not easy but gotta do it to eat, right?” Elias took a sip of his drink before looking up at him again. “Is that the why you got time to waste so you find it smart to go talk to my husband behind my back?” he spoke while putting his drink down on the counter. “I’m not gonna yell at you, even if my temper really wants to. But I asked you to come here to talk and I... I just wanna understand.” What exactly? Ah, if he knew.

neil-sheehan·:
Neil chuckled a bit more at Elias’s replies, he knew that behind this poker face Elias was sharing his amusement, it was a beginning, maybe a good one. “Sound fun.” He looked at him with a smile and bow his head with an exaggeration of his hand to go with it, still joking and trying to get a smile from this stubborn man. But because of the waitress, he didn’t see it if this one happened, he found back his serious and looked at her. “An abita amber please.” He asked; a simple beer from New Orleans. The situation was weird, even if he was acting like a cocky bastard, it was also weird for him and joking had always been one of his ways to tone down something. He looked at him at his question and replied without really looking at him in the eyes. “I’m staying. I’m actually back since a few weeks. Elise is a mom now, I came back when she gave birth and yeah… I wanted to be there.” He cleared his throat. “Coming back was actually an old idea, I had a job opportunity, Elise encouraged me, so yeah… Definitively staying in town.” He wasn’t lying, Elias wasn’t the center of his world, but he was a plus, he had to admit it.
Neil always had that effect of making him smile whenever he wanted him to smile and it affected Elias more than he thought that he actually had to fight not to smile. How he was still able to reach him. He wasn’t used to this. He was not supposed to be such an open book to people, he should be the one intimidating. So Elias lost himself in the choice of his drink. He listenned to Neil’s reply with an ear, looking at him with a eye only, from time to time. “Oh?” He was glad for Elisa, he truly was and this was a surprise. Elias never really checked on her all these years... Maybe he should have, but the memories at the time... And he forgot about it afterwards. “That’s... great, I’m happy for her, it’s always nice news.” Although Elias didn’t know how to feel about Neil staying. Jon told him he was scared of him being around with both their career’s ambitions. Which was kind of true with everything it was implying. “And what is your job exactly?” He would’ve ask the questions he wanted after, only wanted to see the man speak for now, study him in his own way.
Making it up
neil-sheehan·:
Nervous? Nah. Neil wasn’t nervous, he wasn’t the nervous type guy but he might have smoked a bit more than usual. He canceled an appointment to not be late at the one that Elias gave to him and simply arrived a bit after 7pm, not being too on time but not too late either. He spotted the man and sat down next to him, not even trying to greet him in another way that a cocky smile. “Mister the District Attorney.” He said, maybe liking this title a bit too much. He put down his glasses and took off his phone from his pocket to put this one on airplane mode. “Thanks for having me here, I’m very honored to…” He looked around. “… I’m sorry what the justice ass kissers usually said when they meet you?” He joked and chuckled a bit. “Also too soon?”
He turned at the voice and deeply breathed in. Here they went. Elias cocked an eyebrow at how he was calling him but didn’t say anything about it. “Neil.” he simply greeted on his side. “They bow.” he replied with his serious face on, however smiling on the inside. “And then they beg me not to sue them for spitting on my shoes.” he added, still serious. But still joking more than he should actually. Elias didn’t reply anything else to him, the very corner of his mouth triggered to slightly express itself. It was too soon for him to openly smile at his stupid jokes like nothing happened. He liked however his effort to try to warm the atmosphere. Thanks for him the waitress came at them to order their drinks. “A simple lemonade, thanks.” If he wanted a beer, he would definitely not give it a chance right now. He waited for Neil to order and the waitress to be gone before speaking again. “So, are you only passing by? Or you’re staying in town?”

( @neil-sheehan )
The day had left him with a light behavior, an easy day that seemed to have made him calm enough to handle this evening without any anger issue coming up. His day cases weren’t as hard as it should’ve been. Plus he’d spent his lunch time with his husband which had put him in a real good mood, enough to tell him he would be late for dinner tonight as he needed to talk to Neil. Choosing a random bar the two never went two seemed neutral for Elias and he really cared about it. As he got in at seven, Elias approached the counter, put his jacket on and his glasses off to sit down.

3rd wedding anniversary
jonathandubois·:
“An hour and a half ? So you brought this for you huh ? “ Jon teased, and opened the bag. “Careful , your love handles are really showing these days. “ he poked the bear and took a chip in his mouth. “Just fyi, I too planned something, not the big play at hand, obviously, but something I intend to share when the moment is right. Until then, I am to question you on where we are going…sooo babeeeeey where are weeee goooooing ?”
“Maybe.” Elias tilted his head and gave a look at Jonathan. “What? You love it. What am I supposed to do, nothing for our anniversary? Nah.” He looked back at the road, not without and interested expression on his face. “Can’t wait.” he admitted. “Well, you will see by yourself. But I wanted for us to have a moment away from city noises and town. I... really hope you’ll like it.” Event today he was never sure if everything he did, Jon would like and he dreaded his reaction a lot.
Echoes of the past
jonathandubois·:
Jon smiled during the kiss. “ I love you too honey. “ he stated and let him go. While he was in the shower, he put his pijamas on the heater next to him, so he would jump in warm comfortable clothes, and then proceeded to prepare the popcorn and get himself into bed with Ziva who was looking at the bathroom like coooome ooon daaaadddy hurry up.
He took his time under the shower to let the water clean the anger off his skin and wash his thoughts. It never worked, but at least Elias felt a bit more relaxed under the very hot water. He smiled at the warmth of his pijamas and even more as he entered their room. Elias let a kiss between Ziva’s ears as he climbed onto the bed. “That’s all a thing you did there.” he said to his husband. “Thank you. For this, and listenning.”
