Elijah: Let’s go on vacation.
Text || Margot
Elijah: Margot why the fuck did you do this again? You know how I feel about you and you sat here and told me that you loved me and then you send me some stupid ass letter like that's supposed to make the fact that you're one of the worst people better. I don't want your shit. I don't want anything that was ours. I don't want to work with you. I don't want you in my life anymore. Twice you've left me after giving me hope that you and I were going to happen. You should have said something before. I know you're just going back to him so why didn't you say it was always going to be him? You could have just said that Margot. You didn't have to string me along and you decided to do that. I'm leaving your tag with your shit at work. I don't want it and I don't want you.
margotcartier-wc:
“Yes Doctor Heartfield. I will be good. I will try to listen to you.” Margot pouted teasingly and rolled her eyes at him. She smiled when she felt his eyes close and turned her head to look at him with a soft smile, giving him a kiss on the check. “I’m sure you already know that you could ask to go anywhere and they’d accept you, so no, I’m not selling myself short. You’re just too good for me, for here, really. But you choose to stay in Chicago. And that’s what makes you amazing. That you’re cocky, yes, but you stay humble.” Margot chuckled, changing the topic from all the parts she had to get fixed to focus on Eli instead. It was too depressing to think about. How everything had changed in that split second. But maybe everything had been building up to this moment, who knows. “I love you, Eli. Thanks for fixing me.” She smiled, doing her best to snuggle against him closer and closed her eyes as well.
“I hate that you say try. Your trying doesn’t always mean actually listening and it’s time for you to actually listen Margot. I don’t particularly trust you to do the listening part. You’re going to need someone to help take care of you for a while after you leave here. I don’t want you staying alone. What if you come stay with me for a little bit, just until you’re better.” He smiled softly when she kissed him on the cheek, “There’s no where else I’d rather be. You’re here M, that’s all that matters to me.” He carefully moved some of her hair, shrugging a tiny bit, not wanting to shake the bed too much with his movements. He sighed softly when she said that she loved him, he believed it, that wasn’t the problem, the problem was that she’d loved him before, but nothing was going to happen before. Now he’d saved her life and... Was that why she wanted him? He should have gotten out of the bed, this wasn’t fair to taken advantage of. “I love you too.” He told her softly, reaching up to lace his fingers in hers. “Get some sleep now.”

Lottie: Stuffy air. There's nothing like fresh air. When did you last get some? He's alright, I promise. Apart from the fact he chased his tail for an hour, but that aside he is happy
Lottie: I know. But she needs you
Elijah: I was outside earlier today. I had to meet a helicopter on the roof. I'm glad he's happy. Are you?
Elijah: You need me too and you come first Lottie.
elodiexcartier:
“Mmm, well after catching Caleb in bed with someone else, my trust in people has gone” she replied with a shrug. “It is when I don’t know where we’re walking to” she pointed out. “That’s the problem isn’t it? She can’t decide. I always take her side on anything, but this time… I can’t. It’s been going on since I moved here and I just don’t understand why both of you are putting up with it” she was assuming Elijah knew, if not… well maybe he needed the wake up call. No she didn’t like either man, but she hated her sister’s games more. She could have groaned as he darted off, nope too fast. Eventually she managed to catch up, “alright, if you’re going to run that fast down stairs, warn me so I can buy a coffee to wake up enough for it”.
Elijah just shrugged a little, “I try not to let one bad experience ruin everything. Takes away a lot of joy in life.” He sighed a little, “Because I love her Elodie. I still wake up in the morning thinking that she’s going to be beside me. I go home at night and think that maybe I’m going to see her. Every time something good happens in my day she’s the first person I want to tell. She’s the only person I want to tell when something goes wrong and every single time I see her I have to stop myself because all I want is her in my arms. Margot could literally drag me through the mud and I would just ask her to do it again because it means I got to be near her.” He pulled a twizzler out of his coat pocket when he finished talking, just shrugging before tossing one end in his mouth and continuing on his way. “Remind me you move like a turtle next time. I’ll give you a twenty minute head start.” Once she was next to him he shuffled her through the door, walking down the hall before going into another door, letting her into a room with different cubbies and lockers. “You are going to shower and change. Margot has clothes here that will probably fit.” He walked over to one of the lockers, staring at the lock for a minute before starting to twist it and unlocking Margot’s locker. “Shampoo, soap, towel, clothes. If they won’t fit let me know and I’ll steal something from the interns.”
lottiexheartfield:
“In his defence, you did have a green rug at the time, he probably thought it was grass” she replied, scratching behind the dog’s ears. “Or maybe he just really hated the rug. Maybe it’s a 101 Dalmatian situation, where they think they are the owners” she mused knowing that the conversation was ridiculous really, but also needing it. “Mmm, I know. And one day you may end up married and with kids, and they will need the money. I don’t want to be dependent forever, that has never been who I am” it was just a little buried at the moment. She knew that, she knew this was never going to be an easy path. “I do want to work. I just want to not be controlled by… the past” even now she still couldn’t talk about it, it was too hard.
“No, not in his defense. There’s no excuse for destroying my rug.” He rolled his eyes a little at her, watching the way that she interacted with the dog. “Yeah I’m not sure that’s what’s happening, but if that’s what you want to believe I’m not going to argue it.” He scoffed a little, shaking his head at her statement. “Lottie I’m not going to get married and have kids, I moved beyond that. Even if I did they don’t need all the money I have either. No one needs all the money I have. It’s not your job to worry about any of that. You just need to focus on you.” He kept his face neutral as she mentioned the past, just nodded at her words, he never wanted to react too much in any direction, worried about causing more stress around the issue, “What do you want to do then? Are you happy with your current job? Have you considered school again? What’s on your mind?”

Margot: Okay, I'll stay then. The view out the window isn't too bad. Is the second surgery soon?
Margot: I'm doing well. Bored though. Do you know if they've moved my residents to elsewhere temporarily?
Elijah: Potentially tomorrow, I just need to make sure that there isn't too big of a risk to open you again right now. Your immune system is pretty much halted by the anti rejection drugs and immunosuppressants and I know you know all this but still.
Elijah: Do you want a coloring book? A few of them have been shuffled around but they haven't left the hospital. I discharged a few today after post opts. Adults are less fun than children.

Lottie: Which is also why him being stuck inside a boiling apartment might not be such a good idea. The park has lots of shade though, and I'll start remembering to take water bottles
Lottie: Eli I'm not going to be selfish and take you away from her. You're right she needs a doctor if it's that bad. I can stay with dads or something like that. But you need to put her first right now
Elijah: I didn't say leave him in the apartment, we have air as well, but that's beside the point. I just want to make sure that you're taking care of him and aware of everything he might need.
Elijah: Lottie I don't want you to feel like you have to leave. This is your home. You're always going to be put first.
margotcartier-wc:
“Eli, I can’t deny that it could’ve went better. And you probably don’t want me to tell you that either. But you did all you could, and that’s what matters.” She spoke softly, kissing the side of his head. Margot reached around so that she held his hands in hers, rubbing light circles with her thumb and let him talk. It wasn’t her place to dictate what he felt or didn’t feel. Everyone reacted different in losses. Margot herself hadn’t even been consistent with her reactions, so she didn’t expect others to be either. So she listened. And held his hand. And every so often nodded. “I’m done for the day,” She wasn’t but Eli came first. Margot had lost him once to her job and aspirations, she wasn’t going to allow for it a second time. “The floor sounds like an awful place for us to stay, so do you think you’d be okay with me driving you home or to my place for a nap? Nothing more. I’m worried that you won’t take a nap yourself so I wan’t to make sure you do it.” She gently poked his side, making sure he was still listening to her and not off on his own world. He could do that once he got a nap.
“You’re not done for the day.” He told her simply, shaking his head at her statement, “I’m not an idiot Margot, you have two, probably three more surgeries today and you’re scheduled in the ER later tonight. Don’t lie to me. We’ve above that.” He moved away from her, shifting so that he was sitting with his legs folded in front of him. Slowly he reached out, playing with a strand of her hair while she spoke. “You can’t leave everyone hanging just because I’m.... Not having a great day.” Sure. That’s covered it. He continued to watch her, zoning out a bit as he started to stare past her, his eyes slowly traveling from her face to the wall behind her. What was he doing? She’d made it so clear that she didn’t feel the same way he did. What was he doing? Sitting in her office. Why was he seeking out comfort from her after she’d told someone else she loved them in front of her? Why couldn’t he make himself leave? He wanted to leave but instead- “Why are you poking me?”
margotcartier-wc:
“Elijah.” She murmured softly with a small laugh, moving her hand so she could interlace their fingers and letting him explain to what he had fixed and what the results were. “It’s the best thing I could’ve asked for Dr. Heartfield. You did a great job. I’m just happy I’m alive and you’re here beside me taking a nap. You deserve a nap, or a long sleep.” She moved her other hand to gently close his eyelids for him and placed her finger over his lip. “Shh, it’s okay. I’m just happy you’re here beside me and we’re not arguing over something. I’m glad you’re here beside me and we can enjoy each other’s presence. I’m just… so so thankful you saved me, Eli. I don’t think anyone else could’ve done what you did. I know I always jokingly argue with you and say that I’m better than you, but truly, if I had a choice, I’d rather you operate on a patient in my place in myself.” She shifted ever so slightly so she could feel that he was real and this all wasn’t a dream, and turned her eyes to him, just watching with a soft smile.
He laughed as she moved her fingers over his eyes, “Margot.” He told her softly, moving both of their hands over her abdomen, moving them around for a minute until they were roughly hovering about where her lung was, “This is new... I couldn’t fix the mess that your ribs made, they punctured and tore. Speaking of... Your ribs are basically taped together right now and I need you to be really careful of them. It’s these three here.” He moved his hand just a little, then brought it back to him, “Your leg is also a problem. I need to go back in. Other than that, you’re in pretty good shape though. You know as well as I do however that organ transplants are complicated and it’s going to be a bit of a recovery. Especially when you leave the hospital, I need you to take your medication everyday. Even if you don’t want to or think it’s stupid.” He closed his eyes this time, placing her hand over them to try and appease her. “Don’t sell yourself short Margot, there’s not a single person in this world I’d rather operate on me, with me, on my patients, than you.”
isleydrewwhittaker:
“Oh, c’mon.” She said, rolling her eyes. “We both need a distraction.” Isley followed his directions, pulling her shirt up and the elastic band of her maternity jeans down. Turning her head to face the screen, she said quietly, “Thank you for doing this.”
“We both need a distraction so you ask me about my feelings for someone who was just in a terrible accident? Is that really what you feel is necessary?” He grabbed two packs of the jelly, putting on a pair of gloves before tearing them open. “Cold.” He told her simply before starting to squeeze them onto her, taking the wand and spreading it around before turning the screen to an angle where she couldn’t see it as he started to search.
beckettabrams:
“Ah, I think I’ve seen her around. I just moved here a month ago so I haven’t had time to acquainted with the neighbors quiet yet. I’m Beckett, by the way.”
“She’s small, quiet, but friendly. If you do happen to see her, try to say hi, it’s good for her. She’s... Shy.” Yeah... Shy was a word that worked. Elijah moved towards him, reaching out to shake his hand. “Elijah, it’s a pleasure. I’m usually literally running in and out of my apartment so I don’t usually get the chance to meet too many people.”
lottiexheartfield:
“Doesn’t he? I think he understands more then we give him credit for” she replied, tilting her head as she looked at the dog. He seemed to always understand when she was upset, or having a nightmare. He always came, how he knew, she hadn’t figured out. Or maybe she just wore her heart on her sleeve, making it far too obvious what was wrong. “I need to work because I am not going to live off of you for ever Eli. Besides, working is normal for girls my age, and really what’s the other option? Stay in the flat all day?” that she couldn’t do. She couldn’t go from being locked in a basement to being locked in a tower. She knew that wasn’t what he meant, but he was a little… protective.
“I’m sure he does, but if that’s the case he should really put some more effort into showing it. Whatcha think Loki? Want to try showing me how smart you are or do you want to try and dig another hole in my rug? You didn’t get very far last time, you torn my rug and scratched my floor but where did that get us?” He watched the dog, rolling his eyes at it just responded by wagging his tail even faster. “Lottie I have more money than humanly necessary for two people. You only need to work if you want to, you can always do something else you know. A hobby... Recreational activity...” He shrugged a little, sipping on his beer as he relaxed a bit from before, “I just want you to be happy. You don’t need to do anything you don’t want to.”
Text || Margot & Eli
Margot: To find you I guess? But since you're so against it, fine. I'll go for a.. assisted stroll in the gardens.
Margot: Eli, you're a workaholic, we both know that. How are you doing?
Elijah: Okay but you realize that you don't need to find me if I'm coming to your room. Besides, I still need to do a second surgery on your leg. I'm not sure how good of an idea this is...
Elijah: I'm fine. How are you doing?
Text || Lottie
Lottie: Oh hush, you aren't that bad. It hasn't been a problem yet, but then I suppose it is only early May. She's what?
Elijah: It's supposed to get warm this week, I just want you to be aware and ready for it. Loki won't like being too hot, huskies are happier in cooler climates so you need to make sure you're paying attention to that.
Elijah: She needs some help Lottie, it's not a good idea for her to be alone, we have plenty of space and I thought it would be a good idea for her to stay with us. I'm a doctor after all and when I'm working I thought you might be able to give her a hand if she needs it. Whenever you're not working of course. If you're not okay with that though I'll make other arrangements.
Text || Lottie
Lottie: Nothing all that fancy, just homemade burgers. Of course, over walking him probably, I can't stand being inside. Eli a patient doesn't mean you can't come home for days, what is going on?
Elijah: Better than I can do, I can't wait to try some. It's getting warmer so make sure that if you take him out you bring some water okay? For both of you. Lottie, it's just complicated, okay? We need to talk about this as well. Basically, my patient is Margot. She's going to need a lot of help with recovery and she's going to stay with us while that happens.
Text || Lottie
Lottie: Eli you haven't come home at all. I'm fine, my cooking might finally be improving and Loki's protecting me. But what about you? What happened?
Elijah: I've been busy. I'm sorry. Oh yeah? Did you make anything good? You're feeding and walking Loki, yeah? I have a patient in the ICU, it's been a mess.
