Long night in Atlantic City...
Itâs fine man, I know where the cameras are, Iâll knock the main one down, weâll get in the house and Iâll turn them off so we can get in and out easily.
Sounds tricky dude...I'm in.
Alright then. Weâll be fine though Iâm sure, I grew up at the place after all.
Weâll get it, get out and drive. I was thinking our first stop could be Atlantic City.
Let's do it man. We'll stakeout and wait for them to leave, then we'll go in for the kill. What about the security cameras though?
Most people do.
Well if you really need to babysit me, I was thinking tomorrow night. My parents always go out to dinner, we could get in, grab some money and jewelry and get out.
Kyle, of course I'm coming. If you go down, you're bringing me and Mel down with you.
That could definitely help. I donât think theyâd be willing to help necessarilyâŚ
Doesnât mean I canât take advantage of the fact that I know their safe combinations, right?
I like the way you think, man.
When do you wanna get this done? You're not going alone.
Hell yeah. Man, this is gonna be sweet. The only problem is how weâre gonna get the money to get the fuck out of here.
Well, I've been thinking of selling bud, that could help us out. You think your parents would be willing to help the cause?
Fuck yeah.
Where do you think we should go first? Iâm thinking stop at all different kinds of places on the way to California. We especially need to stop in Vegas.
Vegas is a definite. Colorado--gotta get some of that good herb dude.
Dude as long as the three of us can get out of here Iâm up for anything.
We should just go everywhere. Me and Mel went to New York City last month. Letâs just leave here and explore. We can go cross country in the wrangler.
Road trip in the Wrangler? Sheeeit
Let's fucking do it
I wanna get the fuck away from this place.
Couldn't agree more, actually.
What do you say? Me you and Mel?
Welcome back man. Howâs it going?Â
Thanks dude, things are going well. And you?
Welcome back⌠I know that probably doesnât mean much coming from me, but.
Well..thanks Anna. I appreciate that.
I'm sorry about the way things went down. I wish I could take back some of the things I said, but I can't. I'm just--sorry.
It's so nice to be home.
Heart to Heart || Melanie & Elijah
âOops, sorry,â Melanie said when she accidentally hugged Eliâs bad arm as well. She led her friend into his room and she immediately told him that he could talk to her about anything. That was the first thing that she wanted him to know. When he admitted being in love with Lillian, that he had loved the girl since he was just six years old, her heart broke for him. âOh Eli⌠I always had a feeling that you loved her. Kyle doesnât understand that stuff, you know how he is. I know she really cared about you too, Eli. When I first moved here and she was talking about the people she wanted to introduce me to, you were the first person she mentioned. She told me what an amazing guy you are and her eyes just lit up in this way that I never saw unless she was around you.â Melanie moved to take Eliâs hand in hers, lacing her fingers through his. She squeezed his hand gently, trying to offer her best friend the comfort that she knew he needed.
âYou can stop. You can stop cutting, you just need to find a different way to let things out. Talk to me, play a sport, write things down⌠just donât hurt yourself.â Melanie pulled her legs up and rested her chin on her knees, wrapping her arms around her legs as she looked at her friend. âI know that youâre hurting, Eli. I donât want to tell you to give up on her, but I donât want you to just sit here and let your heart keep breaking. You love her and no matter where she is⌠she loves you too, Eli. Lillian will always love you and you need to take that and fuel it into doing all the great things that I know and she knows youâre capable of.â Her voice was soft as she looked up at Eli, a small smile on her face. âSo many people love you. You are an amazing guy. Never forget that, okay? You are so much more than what you give yourself credit for.â
"I know, he means well. He's an ass, but he definitely means well." Eli laughed, after Mel said Kyle doesn't understand Eli's feelings for Lillian. He was happy to get all of this off his chest, especially to someone as caring as Mel. She always listened and gave perfect advice, and Eli was comforted to know that she'd be here in the future when he was falling back into a manic state. Eli watched, listening intently to Mel's words as his eyes widened a bit. "Sh-she said that?" Eli asked, clutching Mel's hand tightly when she laced their fingers. "I-I'm glad she can't see me like this." Eli said softly, shutting his eyes tightly, attempting to keep his angry thoughts at bay.
"It's the only release I can run to at any time, Mel." Eli sighed, running a hand through his hair. "It feels good--well not good, but..I actually feel like..I'm still here." He practically lowered his voice to a whisper, almost regretting each word he uttered because he sounded so stupid and cliche. "I'm going to try. I'm going to try for you, and everybody who cares about me. I want you and Kyle to come to my parents' house for dinner. They would love to see that we're all still friends. I ignore my mom's texts constantly, and after all of the bullshit that's happened, I want to show her that I do care about her, and I think a dinner would be the best idea." Eli nodded, thinking of ways to fix all the broken areas of his life. It seemed impossible, especially in his current state, but Mel was definitely helping ease the situation. "I love you so much, Melanie." Eli pursed his lips, looking at his truest friend in the eyes. "I don't know what I'd do without you, or how to repay you for always being here for me when I need it the most--and even when I don't need it the most. You're truly the greatest person I've ever known. Don't let anyone especially that cunt Anna tell you otherwise." Eli nodded sternly. "I can do this, I can change the system I've made here." Eli reassured himself, standing up from the bed.
Heart to Heart || Melanie & Elijah
Melanie had been cleaning the house all day long in preparation for Eli coming back home again. No words could describe how much she had missed her best friend. She was looking forward to be able to talk with him, to see how he was feeling and where he was emotionally. Eli was her best friend, her brother, and she had been so completely worried about him. But he was okay now and she was so incredibly thankful for that. When the front door to the house was opened and Eli was revealed on the other side, a bright smile spread across her face. âEli!â she exclaimed happily, running to him and flinging her arms around him as she pulled him into a hug. âDonât you ever scare me like that again or Iâll punch you,â she mumbled against him before pulling out of the hug. Her eyes were already filled with tears and she laughed at herself for a moment, wiping the tears away from her eyes.
âCome here, we need to talk,â she said, leading Eli to his room and closing the door behind them. She took a seat on the edge of his bed and patted the spot next to her. Her eyes followed him carefully, nervous as if he was going to break any second. Melanie had never been so worried about someone before and she could only hope that this talk would show that he was getting better, both mentally and physically. âI want you to talk to me⌠about everything, okay? I know you canât tell Kyle everything. He can be a little insensitive sometimes, but you can always talk to me. Especially before⌠before anything gets that bad.â
Eli was feeling much better. He knew it would take time to adjust to his medication, but he already had a positive attitude and was ready to go home. Eli rested his head on the car window as Kyle drove him back home. He was so appreciative of his friends. Eli couldn't wait to get back and see Mel. He just wanted to go back to the way things were with no weirdness or hostility. Eli cradled his bandaged arm gently, opening the car door and walking up the pathway. As he turned the knob, he took a deep breath. As a grin spread across his face, Mel jumped on Eli quicker than he could say hello. "It's nice to see you too, ow" He laughed, pulling his bad arm away from the girl's body, and wrapping the other around her waist. "No worries, Mel. I'll never do anything like that to you again." He said softly looking down at the tiny girl before she grabbed his hand, leading him to the back room. "What's up?" Eli asked, taking a seat on the bed. He knew what this conversation would entail. It was written all over Mel's face, and Eli couldn't help but smile.
"You're the best." He said, looking down in an attempt to hide his bashful smile. "I really appreciate that." He said calmly, turning to look at Mel again. "Well, let's see. I never told anyone this, but.." Eli sighed, preparing to tell Melanie all about his feelings for Lillian. He didn't know how obvious it was that he was head over heels for Lillian Bates, but he was sure he'd never divulged details to anyone. "Well, I'm in love with Lillian. I have been since I was six years old. She's the only girl I've ever loved, and as much as Kyle tries to get me to hook up with other girls, they're..." Eli choked on his words for a minute, clearing his throat, "They're not Lil." Eli shook his head. "And then once she went missing..I just..cracked." Eli shrugged, his eyes staying static on the floor beneath them. "I started cutting, a lot. Usually when you guys weren't home, and nothing major just..small marks on my arms. But this last time was different. It wasn't that I was super depressed, I just felt--undermined, out of control, disconnected from everything and I just wanted to end that feeling...to end the way things were going." Eli traced his finger across the stitches gently, cringing at the marks he'd made on his body. "I don't know if I can stop, Melanie." Eli whispered.
Oh⌠oh, those games are good too. Kyle? As in Kyle Anderson? As in really tall and popular guy from high school?
Yeah, that's him. He's an ass.
You should hang out with us--play some real video games, drink some beers, you know?
You havenât played WOW? Oh god, Eli. We need to have a talk and I can set up an account for you. You seem like a mercenary guy. Or maybe an archer.
Yeah⌠that would most certainly suck.
Oh, no none of those fucking nerd games for me. I play enough COD and Nazi Zombies with Kyle.
