“Yeah, yeah,” Leonie nodded in feigned acknowledgement, lack of sleep weighing down on her eyelids. “Wait—what?” Brows knitted together in confusion, eyes blinking repeatedly in an effort to keep herself awake. Goddammit, stop zoning out. Days like this, social situations just made her all the more exhausted. “Sorry, sorry, I am listening, I promise. It’s just…” she glanced down at her hands; couldn’t get them to stop trembling from the caffeine withdrawal. “Didn’t get much sleep last night.” Any sleep last night. Or the night before — and the night before the night before. “Mind if we go over that again?”
Elijah paused, noticing that Leonie hadn’t paid attention to a single thing he said. It was a boring story, actually, so he couldn’t be too upset about it. He was going on about what happened at the library earlier that day with two little kids trying to find books for their class report, and it clearly was one of those stories that someone had to be there for. “No, no, it’s alright. I wasn’t really talking about anything. — Do you need coffee, love?”
