“Definitely custard and fruit. I’ve never been one for the former, if I can be quite honest with you. Maybe I just don’t particularly care for how it’s prepared. Have you thought of an answer yet?”

                              “There’s certainly an air of... arrogance to crème brûlée, that’s for sure. And, really, custard and fruit is practically the same thing, it’s just prepared differently.” Offering a sigh, Kelly finally nodded. “I think so. I’m partial to crème brûlée because I’ve got a bit of a sweet tooth. But if I’m in the mood for fruit I can just garnish the dish with a few berries as well. Best of both worlds.”

“Don’t people prefer different things?” She chuckled softly. “Depends on my mood, though. Sometimes I want crème brûlée, others, I want custard and fruits.”

                              Kelly nodded. “That they do. And both is definitely an acceptable answer. And if we can’t make both then we can always just garnish the crème brûlée with some fruit.”

“Um…” Andrew blinked, scratching his chin. “What if I cast my vote for: I have no clue what either of those really are? I don’t think I’ve ever had either? Clearly I’m not as adventurous as I once thought. They’re desserts, right?”

                              Kelly let out a scandalized gasp, clutching dramatically at her chest. “You’ve.... you’ve never had either of them?” she prompted, sounding absolutely gutted. “They’re only some of the best desserts around. Crème brûlée is a French dessert with custard and a glazed crust of sugar on top. And... custard and berries is just that. If you’ve got a sweet tooth both are a great choice.”

“Well that’s quite the loaded question. It highly depends on the occasion, especially since you can place some fruit on top of the crème brûlée.” Rowan shrugged, finding herself wanting to answer the same way. “Donuts and Krispy Kremes are it for me, but if I had to choose then it’d be the crème brûlée with some fruit.”

                              Kelly inclined her head, “That’s true. Besides. Most of the time the custard we serve with fruit is the same custard we used for the crème brûlée. It’s just not set.” A warm smile spread across her lips at the mention of donuts. “We make donuts as well. Serve them with different types of sauces. Strawberry puree, melted chocolate and caramel. It’s pretty popular too.”

“I’d prefer to think that all of our individual decisions are our active choices,” he started to agree with a little bit of a nod. “If everyone’s reactions were just destined to happen by some greater force, it sort of takes away all the meaning, doesn’t it? And it says that the universe is pretty shitty as a whole, because I’ve had some days I wish I could’ve avoided.” Isaac chuckled lightly, shoulder shrugging.

                              Kelly nodded. “It’d take away free will entirely. I hope that’s not how the world works, at any rate. Would kinda suck if the bad things that happened to you were supposed to happen and couldn’t be avoided.” There’s a moment where she lulls into silence, contemplating, before matching his chuckle. “You think about this a lot?”

“Creme Brûlée sounds too damn fancy and fruit isn’t a dessert so there ain’t no comparing the two. I’m a big donut fan, though, so that’s my answer. Really fucking helpful, I know.”

                              "It’s a French dessert, hence the fanciness of the name. It’s pretty good, though. I’d recommend it if you’ve never had it before.” Making a face, Kelly grinned. “Fruit can totally be a dessert... donuts are also good. Especially fresh homemade ones.”

“Well I’d say that’s a pretty damn shitty customer puttin’ ya in a position to answer a questions that’s impossible to answer. Shame on them.” Tony let out a small laugh and shook his head before looking back up at Kelly-Anne. “Y’know, I think I might have to try ‘em both to jog my memory.” 

                              Kelly let out a light snort of laughter and nodded. “Can’t say it’s the first time someone’s asked me, though I can understand the dilemma.” Grinning, she leaned back a bit, eyeing him. “Try them both, huh? Sounds like this was the plan all along. But I can get you both no problem. You want ‘em at the same time or one before the other?”

“Well, I think a really well-done crème brûlée speaks more to the abilities of the chef, don’t you?” Anton shrugged his shoulders. “That said, if the dessert has fruit in it, you can at least pretend you’re eating healthy. Good as it all is, heavy cream, egg yolks, sugar….too much’ll take care of your teeth and your heart all at once.” 

                              "Truth be told, crème brûlée isn’t all that hard to make. It just takes some time and patience,” Kelly admitted with a smile. “And even then you can garnish it with a fancy cut strawberry or some kind of berry. So maybe a combination would be my best bet.”

                              “Crème brûlée or custard and fruit?” she prompts, teeth pulling at her bottom lip. “A customer asked me which was my favorite the other day and I... I could not think of an answer. So I gave the lame ‘there both great!’ response. But now I sorta wanna know which one people prefer.”

“Has there been a definitive decision on what causes déjà vu yet?” His eyebrows raised high as Isaac started to shake his head. “Because I’ve got a serious case of ‘been here, done that’ going on right now and it’s making me a little batty. I think I heard once that the sensation of déjà vu is a good thing – that it means you’re on the right track in some cosmic sense, but I don’t know about all that. It all just seems very… ominous to me.”

                              For a moment Kelly sat there, contemplating. Then, after a pause she shrugged head shaking. “I don’t know what causes it but... the idea of not having any free choice kinda freaks me out. Like. What we’re doing right now. Was this all part of the plan or did I actually decide to sit here across from you. Is that decision mine or the universe’s?”

“I umh– I found a raccoon in the dumpster in front of my apartment and he– he kinda looked hurt and I’m not sure how– does anyone know how to take care of a raccoon? I’m really worried about him.”

                         “A... a raccoon? You actually... touch a raccoon and it didn’t bite you? That’s -- wow. That’s pretty impressive. But to be honest? I think animal control is your best bet. I... don’t know many people who’d know how to take care of a raccoon.”
