Temporary Painting in Temporary Space, 2020
January ‘20
Nam June Paik @ Tate Modern
Always taking photos on my phone of playful interactions I see from my mundane, the way certain objects are placed next to eachother. The sattircal or ironic undertones. Things being taken out of context from our everyday lives.
Looking at them for their colours, shapes, angles. Yet they are just bananas or bin bags. Yet this is the reality of most of our lives?
Maybe aggressions in slight reference to class or high art vs low art. Maybe its the result of our modern day curation- social media. Instagram works by pinching things out of context for public viewing. A selection of pictures that are accustomed to our own taste.
Along the same idea of picked information, I was randomly researching Fact Checkers and general social media during the UK December general election.
Perhaps this is just post- Modern day life, the result of what happens when our lifestyles evolve, meanings of things and roles change, when we have “Insta storys”. Creating our own narratives. Therefore showing the mundane is no longer mundane.
Documentation of everyday life is becoming crucial to live in 2020. Appreciating the low art, the discrepancies, the humour, the lack of substance, objects, still life.
