he draws in a small breath when he looks up to watch her come clsoer. She’s always coming to his aid, resting beside him, making sure that he was alright. It seemed like the softest thing he’d ever felt was actually being loved by her. His little sister who meant the world to him, who meant everything to him.

Sighing softly he shifts to face her entirely, hissing when he feels his clothing rub at the bruises he’d suffered. His gaze lifts to hers, some sort of drawn look lingering within them. “ I don’t want you to get into trouble. ” he tells her and yet still he reaches his hands out for her two hands. “ It’ll fade in the morning. ”

                                   she knelt down before him, taking his outstretched hands in hers as a way of offering comfort. “i won’t get into trouble,” she told him. fortunately for her, mikael seemed to nurse somewhat of a soft spot for his only daughter. “but i don’t care if i do.” if their father wanted to strike her for coming to her brother’s aid then so be it. she pushed his hair back so that she could see his face properly. there were no cuts, this time, but the skin across his cheekbone was inflamed; come sunrise it would be purple and swollen. 

“does it hurt?” aside from comfort, there wasn’t much that she could offer. she knew of a few herbs and plants that might help ease his discomfort, but she was not a healer; there was only so much she could do. “i’m sorry that he did this again.” how many times had they found themselves out here, for this exact reason? she had lost count. “it’s not your fault. you know that, don’t you?”

       it was moments like these in which  ziva david truly and fully questioned her sanity. it had only been a matter of two  months since her mother’s passing, and this led her to a journey of all too wicked discovery. her world began to open up in ways she could not foresee. suddenly, all the monsters depicted in fairytales were  real. suddenly, she was not just a mossad operative, but a hunter of beasts - born to  carry on in both her father and mother’s  footsteps. 

     a sudden breeze passed behind the  teenager, causing her to whip around  rapidly. a presence unseen sent goose bumps loose rapidly across her flesh. a hand went to her gun, loaded with no  ordinary bullets as she looked around  desperately in search of the entity. this  life she was living was so unbelievably insane. things got even more so when  she had moved to the united states. so much for an escape… 

           “ — who’s there?” her thick Mediterranean accent            flooding the air. “ — come out! now! “    

                        the death of her two oldest brothers had marked the end of an era. always and forever no longer held the weight it once had and meant that, without the overbearing familial obligation, rebekah had rather a lot of time on her hands. what was she to do with herself now that she was no longer burdened with the task of handling niklaus and his homicidal tantrums? how was she to spend her time now that she no longer had to convince elijah to think of himself for once? the freedom was...bewildering, but welcome. 

she was not yet human. not yet ready to give up immortality with the love of her life by her side, but the knowledge that the human life she had craved for so long was ready and waiting for her was an endless source of comfort. while she was enjoying her life by marcel’s side, she looked forward to being human, whenever that might be. 

not yet human meant that she still needed to feed. rebekah had grown tired of blood bags, preferring her nourishment straight from the source. she wasn’t picky, and had decided that the next person she would lay eyes on would be her next meal: a young girl with dark hair crossed her path. with a smile not unlike that of the cat that got the cream, rebekah followed her. she waited until they were out of the public eye, tucked away in a derelict alleyway before she made a move. and oh, she was pleasantly surprised. humans were, too often, all too ready to play the victim. screaming and begging for their lives, so it was a rare treat when somebody got a little bit brave, decided to fight back. 

“hm.” rebekah appeared before her. leaning against the wall, arms folded, she cocked her head to the side. “i hope you don’t think that you can kill me with that thing.” she gestured to the gun with a nod of her head.

Was his apology making her upset, of all things? Max had almost been certain that they were headed in the right direction and then it seemed it took another left hand turn into the argument once more. Why shouldn’t he apologize? Gazing across at the woman he was trying to keep in his life, she began again and eased his worry. Though, even if he hadn’t done anything wrong, he still felt guilty in some way. For what other’s had done to her, what had made her jump to conclusions at the sight of a photo. An apology slipped past her lips, or what he thought was one, and Max lifted himself from the chair to close the space between them. In as tender an attempt as he could make, his fingers moved down to take her busied digits. “Don’t be sorry, I understand why. Can we just agree that I don’t want to actually make you mad?” His lips pulled upward into a smile, though he was lowering himself down to look at his lover. Tangling his fingers with her’s, his eyes refocused to where they were joined as he began to speak. “Scares the shit out of me. Throwing my stuff out the window and it just seemed so easy to push me away. I don’t want that, you know?”

                                     rebekah looked up when he moved towards her. she felt stupid now, in addition to everything else. she had jumped at the chance to believe the worst, even when he had given her no reason to. perhaps it was her own fault for ending up so frequently in situations such as these. “yeah, i know.” she said quietly, eyes trained downwards, fixed on where their fingers were entangled. of course he didn’t purposely want to anger her; nobody in their right mind ever had. and he was a far better person than those she usually associated with. she smiled (for the first time) guiltily when he mentioned her throwing his things out of the window. “sorry about that.” brows furrowed slightly. “i guess you could call me impulsive.” to say the least. “i don’t want that either.” she dared to smile again.

                     after taking the cure, becoming human and living the life she had always dreamed of, dying was not something she had feared. the thought of her brothers waiting patiently for her arrival in the after life (if there was such a thing) had been an endless source of comfort for her in her later years.

and here she was, finally. she was young again, as if not a single day had passed. she cleared her throat as a way of announcing her presence and then, with a smile, “miss me?”

                           nik and elijah were gone (and at peace, she hoped), kol was happy with davina, freya and keelin were better than ever, hope was thriving at school, and as for her: the cure was ready and waiting for her and she was to be married. a thousand years of terror in the name of family had finally come to an end. 

preparations for the wedding were in full swing. invitations had gone out; the caterers selected; flowers chosen; she even had her dress, but there were just a few things missing. which brought her to the reason for her visit.

“brother,” she greeted him with a smile. “it’s been too long.”

                          death, as it turned out, was easy. it was like falling asleep at the end of a long, long day. a thousand years was more than enough for anyone, and rebekah had embraced death with open arms, an old woman warm in her bed. human. 

she opened her eyes. the sunlight was warm on her face. it took her a moment to place her surroundings. of course, she smiled. mystic falls a thousand years ago. this was where she had been most happy; she was home. 

“hello?” she called out. “nik?” there were a few faces she was hoping to see. “elijah?”
