Protesters have camped for months at Tennessee’s Capitol. So lawmakers made it a felony.

“This is all about criminalizing peaceful protesting,” said Justin Jones, an organizer of the protesters who have camped at the state capito

It’s important to point out that protesting generally hasn’t been made a felony, but rather the camping that the protestors are doing (and the legislation also includes other things to discourage protesting).

This is still really bad though, because the right to peaceful protest is protected in the Constitution, and even if protesting isn’t outlawed outright the government is still criminalizing an act of peaceful protest just because it’s a protest.

Furthermore:

According to tn.gov felons in Tennessee lose their right to vote. This is called Felony Disenfranchisement

So this means that the Tennessee government just passed legislation that would render the protestors unable to vote.

There are ten signs of a genocide, ten markers that have been studied as being present in every single genocide in human history. Many of these markers by themselves to not necessarily mean a genocide is happening or will happen, but when many begin to appear together it should be a concern, and if all ten are present, an active genocide has begun. If marker 9 begins, only forced, external military intervention can stop it.

These do not happen in linear order, and often overlap one another, some later markers appearing earlier (denial often appears alongside discrimination and continues well after the genocide is finished) some going for years prior to the genocide beginning(markers 1-4 are common in every country without risk of genocide). When marker nine appears, the other nine markers will often also be present simultaneously. But we do know, that all ten markers appear in any nation that has committed one.
