Saks Fifth Avenue
Hi,
I did not able to attend the Saks Fifth Avenue for the last study tour. However, Saks Fifth Avenue is one of my favorite store to shop. They have all different kinds of brands and sell them to customers. Saks founded by Horace Saks and Bernard Gimbel on 34st of New York on early 1900′s. They offer the in-store and online shopping to customer.
STOLL
Hi,
Last week I also went to “STOLL” which is knitting company. They use all the different kinds of knitting technology to create one wear. It was really good tour because they were explaining to us really well. They were showing that how they were knitting with hand by hand and also the machine. Also, they are having classes to teach how to use the knit machine. It was very interested tour.
San Edelman
Hi,
I went to San Edelman last week. San Edelman was one of my favorite tour because I got full of information in here. It was very interesting that how they design the new shoes or wears. Also, I heard all the story of San Edelman and also speakers’. It was very fun to hear about it. They start the company as Sam& Lily and developed the brand.
Fox Unlimited
Hi,
Last week, I also went to Fox Unlimited. They are selling all the fur fabrics to designers/ brand. Also, they are also getting the fur fabrics from the China, Korea, etc. Chinese fur fabric was very interested because they made it very light and knitted the fur to make clothes. I can see the technique is getting develop. It was very interested for me because my parents are also doing the fabric business in Korea and they want to expand their business to export. Also, I was so surprised that it is way cheaper than buy the product in the store with mark up.
Doneger
Hi everyone,
last week I went to Doneger office. I used Doneger website a lot for the school project and also fashion forecasting. They said they are also expanding a different category of the forecasting. They add the weather forecast too because it is also the biggest issue and influence of the fashion. I like to use Doneger sometime more than WGSN because it is very well organized and make easy to understand specific fashion trend well.
Dover Street Market
Good evening everyone!
Last week, I went to Dover Street Market, 160 Lexington Ave, New York, NY 10016. I think Dover Street Market was one of the best place I went for the Kent State New York City Study Tour. Dover Street Market is very high-fashion and also multi-brand retail store. They change the display every each season for each brand. When they change the display they do the sales for the customer.

ABC Carpet and Home
Hi,
Last week, I went to ABC Carpet and Home. We could not have speaker for us to explain about the company but we were able to look around see the products. It was really large store but they are well organized by each products. They have all home products and displayed it very well. They put items on each place that would go well. I felt like they are showing how we should decorate the house. It was really nice to place to visit and look around.
NATORI
Good evening everyone,
This week I went to the brand, “Natori”, 180 Madison Avenue 18th Floor, New York, NY, 10016. It was founded by Josie Natorie who is from Filipino. The company is offering their product with Saks, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and Bloomingdale’s. They gave us two small magazines that showing their products.
I love their design and all the clothes. They show us all the behind scene and back of the office. They explained to us about every each office people and what is their role in Natori. They were very organized and need to able to work in fast phase. The most interest job was the people who is doing the embroidery job. It looks very easy because they were doing so fast and skillful.
Nordstroms Buying Office

This week I went to Nordstroms Buying Office to learn about what buyers are doing on the Nordstroms. Also, they explained about the “HAUTELOOK” and “RACK.COM”. They have all different category that they are working on and are working with other brands. Their role between Digital Merchandising and Buying are different too but they worked together.
The job, “buying”, is very interesting for me because I like to research some trends and how to develop the product for the brand. I still have trouble with finding what I want to do but it was very useful information to know about the new job of fashion merchandising. Also, in the Nordstroms buying office, speakers give us very good information and explain about their job very well.
FIT Secret Tour

Last week Thursday, I went to FIT, Fashion Institute Technology, secret tour for the Kent State study tour. Our speaker, Ellen, was very nice and did excellent job on explain to us about the trend of each decades. There are all different styles of clothes were popular on each decades and it was very interesting. She was showing us the couture collection of designers.
The most interesting decade for me was 1920s. 1920s fashion trend was drop waist. They start taking off the corset and wear flapper dress. The Charleston dance which are kick up and down was popular on 1920s. Therefore, they want dress to be short and comfortable to dance. It is first time that women show that they are liberated and have freedom. It was radically new. I love this decade because women got to expose the styles to have freedom.
Mood Designer Fabrics
Good Afternoon!
Today, I went to Mood Designer Fabrics, 225 W 37th St, New York, NY 10018. This Flag Ship store held over 1200 customers per day. The Mood Fabrics found by Jack Sauma. He start selling fabric to wholesale customers from his collection and then he expand his business to retail store. There are all different kinds of fabrics are on this store. The store divided by three floors and very organized by category. They are not only selling the fabric, also carry buttons, ribbons, etc., all different products that related to make clothes. Also, they are teaching how to sew and etc...
It was very interested tour for me because my father is also on fabric business. Many people are surprised and got little overwhelmed about too much fabrics in the store. However, it was kind of little normal for me because I grow up watching my dad’s factory and has a lot of fabrics in his office.
Metropolitan Museum of Art

Few days ago, I went to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10028, for my Study Tour. They were having exhibition called “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”. It is showing May 10 to October 8, 2018. They are showing the exhibition about the Roman Catholic tradition. “The Catholic Imagination” is the metaphor of the sociologist Andrew Greeley. The exhibition is expressing the Catholic images and symbols through the garments with the religious orders. Also, it is giving the people short stories of the twentieth and twenty first centuries to give the understand of the fashion and religious art works.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is not only holding the “Heavenly Bodies” exhibition. They are also having a lot of different exhibitions of “Painted in Mexico”, “Like Life Sculpture, Color, And the Body”, “Public Parks, Private Gardens”, “Visitors to Versailles”, and “History Reused to Die”. The museum was really nice and huge. Also, if you go to this museum, you should definitely go to the rooftop to see the whole manhattan view!

Few days ago, I went to Rebecaa Minkoff, New York City 96 Greene Street New York, NY 10012. They opened their own retail store on November 2014. They really want to make sure open the retail store and kept the brand with high-technology. Rebecca was very young to adopt the technology easier. Therefore, the technology is very massive part of the Rebecca Minkoff brand. They focused on the integrating the technology to give customer the best experience possible.
In New York City Flagship store, they owned the high technology to provide the customer a high quality of service. They had a four glasses attached which is playing the videos. Also, when you touched the screen it is showing all the latest collections and it’s sizes and prices. It is also allow customer to order the champaign and any other drinks through the wall/ glass technology. Customer also look over the Rebecca’s favorite designs that how she matched the clothes, like look book, to show the perfect style for the customer. In the fitting rooms, they have a mirror that provide different mood lighting for the customer and able to call the assistant for the help. Many customers do not know how to use all this technology that well because it is so new for them. However, it is easy for them to learn about the new/ high technology. All the experiences in Rebecca Minkoff was very unique. I personally think it is very useful for the customer and does provide the best quality of service. Other stores definitely need to use these high technologies for the customer. You should try out the Rebecca Minkoff’s new technology!
Cotton Inc. Study Tour
Hi Everyone,
Today I went to Cotton Incorporated company Study Tour. It is in 488 Madison Ave. Floor 20 New York, NY 10022. It was very interesting tour for me because I am very interested on fabric and pattern. We met trend forecaster of this company, Aubrey Howard. She explained that the company is working as cotton industry where developing new technologies and production of cotton and manufacturing for increase the profits and productivity.
The most interest part for me and also it was Mrs. Howard’s favorite part about the company was that she get to travel around the world to do the research or presentation. I think it is very important part for trend forecaster is they need to go around the world and experience new cultures of each country. I think going to South Korea would be also good tour for the company because we have really big fabric market called, Dong-dae-mun.
