Everyone forgets that Icarus also flew. It's the same when love comes to an end, or the marriage fails and people say they knew it was a mistake, that everybody said it would never work. That she was old enough to know better. But anything worth doing is worth doing badly. Like being there by that summer ocean on the other side of the island while love was fading out of her, the stars burning so extravagantly those nights that anyone could tell you they would never last. Every morning she was asleep in my bed like a visitation, the gentleness in her like antelope standing in the dawn mist. Each afternoon I watched her coming back through the hot stony field after swimming, the sea light behind her and the huge sky on the other side of that. Listened to her while we ate lunch. How can they say the marriage failed? Like the people who came back from Provence (when it was Provence) and said it was pretty but the food was greasy. I believe Icarus was not failing as he fell, but just coming to the end of his triumph.

How can we solve podcasting’s diversity problem?

It’s starting to look like podcasting’s diversity and discovery problems are intertwined.

How can we support a wide range of voices in media, not just the straight, white, middle-class male voices? I’ve listened to podcasts more this year than ever before, and while there are some predominantly white ones, my favorites feature POC and/or spend a lot of airtime on issues regarding POC and other marginalized people. Can’t broaden my perspectives and deepen my understanding if I only consume content that looks like me.

Sarah Paulson wants a "cocktail with my sweetheart" to celebrate Golden Globes nod

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Congratulations! Are you exhausted right now or has the adrenaline kicked in?

SARAH PAULSON: I’m only tired because the Critics’ Choice Awards last night had me out a little bit later than I expected, but now I’m on my way to the airport because I’m going back to shoot Ocean’s 8, so I’m tired, but in a good way. It’s a good kind of tired.

EW: Where were you when you found out about the nomination?

SP: I was in my bed. It was a little before I was going to have to wake up and get ready to go to the airport, so I was sleeping and had a nice phone call that made me very happy, and then I couldn’t go back to sleep because I was too excited. Then the phone starts buzzing and you want to reply to people as it’s happening.

EW: You mentioned that you’re heading to work. Are you going to celebrate in some way today or do something special for yourself?

SP: I hope so! I’ve got some traveling to do first but I’ll probably have a cocktail with my sweetheart by the end of the night if all goes well.

EW: How did your sweetheart congratulate you?

SP: She’s been calling nonstop since we’ve been on the phone, but I’ve been on the phone with you so I haven’t been able to speak to her yet. [Laughs] She’s in New York so she’s probably just waking up. She’s doing a play so she sleeps a little bit later. You know, I’m obviously up a little bit more early than I would normally be.
