Never Been Kissed, Sixteen Candles, and Can’t Buy Me Love are just some of the classics that Elena grew up desiring to have a starring role in. The true romantic in her would love to have John Cusack show up outside her house with a boom box raised above his head or Patrick Dempsey to save her from a crisis, but she knows this isn’t reality. As a little girl she grew up playing with doll houses, make-believe weddings, and acting out her favorite happily-ever-afters only to be teased for such silly fantasies by her siblings or kids at school. Elena was the girl with her head in the clouds and her heart on her sleeve who slowly was dropped from cloud nine as her parents announced their desire for divorce in the summer before her freshman year.

To see her main example of love disintegrate before her eyes caused an immediate change in the girl. Most people attributed the change to her growing out of the lovesick, puppy-love years of middle school as she no longer got flustered by the simplest act of kindness by the male gender. She became more solemn and less giggly, gaining her a bit more respect from her peers as her viewpoint changed to become more grounded on the realities outside of the movie story-lines. The biggest change in her is that she just doesn’t feel the magic that those movies represented for her anymore.

She’s a witty girl, friendly with a good amount of friends and a strong foot in the theater department at Stonegate. All those years of pretending has paid off to helping her land the lead or a significant part in quite a few shows and musicals. Unfortunately her acting career has merged into her love life in less than desirable aspects. She’s had a good share of boyfriends but nothing serious. She used to be pickier with her idea of a hunky heartthrob, her famous love story hero’s setting the bar pretty high, she moved on to dating whoever wanted to. Acts of affection and relationships just aren’t held as highly as they used to be. She once was reprimanded by a friend when she told them she was more interested in what was on the tv than the boy she was making out with on the couch. The problem is there are never any sparks. Most of her relationships end mutually with things just fizzling out or having to break up due to one-sided feelings (usually the guy). While that magical first kiss has been long gone, Elena won’t let any of her relationships go too far. There’s still a small spark of her childhood 80’s princess that is holding out for that feeling of finding Mr. Right.

Liam smiled when she opened the door but it soon faltered once she spoke. He was genuinely worried even though she had nothing to be afraid of. Monsters weren’t real, nothing in the movies would come out to harm her. “You should have invited me over, first.” He said quietly, pulling her into his arms. “We could have made a night of it.”

“Well I didn’t know if you had plans to be out or anything. It’s Halloween after all. I know I’m being a homebody but I know you like to go out.” Elena explained, curling her arms around his torso as he pulled her closer. It was true. She had entertained the idea but she didn’t want to hold him back from a fun holiday night out. “But hey, we still can?” she said, nodding towards his overnight bag with a smile.

It was a bit on the late side but given the fact that it was Halloween, and a Saturday, it made sense that Elena was still awake and wanting him to come over. And of course he wasn’t going to say no. He packed a small overnight bag for himself, wanting to be prepared for anything, and headed off to Elena’s house. Once there, he sent her a quick text to let her know he had arrived just in case her parents were home and sleeping so he wouldn’t wake them by knocking or ringing the bell.

Elena hated scary movies. Hated them. But in the spirit of Halloween, she had tried to talk herself into one and the results had been the same as always, except her parents were still out at a work Halloween party and she was stuck alone in a house where everything was starting to sound like one of those movies. Thankfully Liam had answered her text and was coming over. Almost as soon as he sent the text, she opened the front door with a grateful smile. She may or may not have been watching the window for him. “Thanks for coming over....I freaked myself out.”

“Not bad? This is the best running back you’re ever gonna see,” He was cocky although his skills were no longer what they used to be. He had lost too much weight and hadn’t lifted for at least a year. No longer was he the best in state, instead he was just above average - able to be topped by most.

“Maybe so. I’m not much of a sports person, but when I do I like lacrosse or soccer.” She pointed out, leaning across the railing as she peered out at the football field.

“Oh no,” he shook his head, “I haven’t forgotten. Chinese it is, then.” Liam replied, looking down at her with a smile, hoping she didn’t take offense to him agreeing with her statement. “Well,” he drew the word out before inhaling deeply, “it looks better on you than it ever did on me.” His hands fell from her back as he pulled himself away from her, one hand finding hers and interlocking their fingers. “Do you still have the takeout menus or are we gonna have to search for something online?”

“Hey!...- Oh who am I kidding, I’m terrible at it.” Elena shook her head, knowing full well that take-out was the better option. She smirked, twirling slightly to show off his shirt on her. “You’re just saying that because its all I’m wearing.” she teased as he took her hand and interlocked their fingers. “I do. I think they’re down by the fridge.”

“Mmm, I could always go for some Chinese...” she hummed to herself as she pondered his suggestions, her own empty stomach starting to let her know how hungry she was. Tired and hungry were not a good combo, so eating something soon would be ideal. “Well you don’t have to worry about me making anything. Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten what a terrible cook I am.” She laughed at herself and at his next question as he wrapped his arms around her. “A little bit of both? I used to have it all the time but I gave it back when I was mad at you. I stole it back last week.” she admitted, leaning into his arms as she looked at him with a look of pure innocence. What girl didn’t like a guy’s big t-shirt or sweatshirt to sleep in?
