OPEN STARTER — PRISM FALLS — OBSIDIAN GROVE, DUSK
Cassandra walked slowly through the cemetery, being respectful of the various graves she walked by as she sought out a specific tombstone. “I can hear your shoes crunching the grass down. You may as well stop following me,” Cassandra stated, halting and turning around to see who had been tracking her, seething that her time with her late husband was being interrupted.
No one in that gods forsaken town was worth her silence being broken, as she had loved her husband in her own way and enjoyed speaking to him as if his tombstone would speak back and give her sage wisdom. It wasn’t as if that could happen, but she still visited his gravesite to reflect on nuisances in her life. She pinched her brow at whom she saw had been following her, then offered as kind a smile as one could.
elodie frozen in place, as though she'd been halted right there by her fear alone. her teeth sank into her bottom lip nervously, and her grip tightened as much as it could around the bouquet she held without causing the stems to snap. her aunt had warned her countless times that not everyone who belonged to their circles belonged in them. as a child, she hadn't quite understood, but that understanding came with age, as did so many other things. like sympathy.
the widowed socialite wasn't the only one in the valley with someone to mourn, and part of her itched to remind the woman of it. but she didn't. instead, she held her tongue like any proper young lady would do and simply apologized. as if she'd actually done something wrong. "oh, forgive me, that was never my intention. i'm trying to go just there," the blonde informed her with a soft smile as she gracefully motioned to the marble mausoleum at the end of the row of carefully laid tombstones.
