Jesse pouted his lips and dragged his feet, scuffing his shoes against the pavement as one little hand reluctantly clutched at the hem of his father's hoodie.
āDon't sulk, Jesse."
The boy sulked harder, jutting out his lower lip and turning his head to the side. The expression stayed in place even as his little legs stumbled a bit over the uneven sidewalk.
"Jesse."
No response.
Heaving a deep sigh, Gabriel stopped walking and took the time to kneel down in front of the child.
"You know why we left, right?" He questioned, gaze narrowing when the little boy barely moved, eyes fixated stubbornly on the ground. "Look at me when I'm talking to you, Jesse." Gabriel added sharply, the stern tone causing the boy's attention to snap up. However, the moment he made eye contact he tried to subtly look away again, rolling his tiny shoulders in a small shrug.
āYou and Fareeha could have gotten hurt." Jesse hunched his shoulders, fists shoving into the pockets of his denim short overalls. "But we wasn'-"
āI don't wanna hear it. We told both of you to stay where we could see you and you didn't listen. When we get home, your going to sit in the corner, understood?" A stretch of quiet followed Gabriel's blunt words, to which Jesse gave an eventual slow nod.
Satisfied, the man stood and resumed their walk, taking Jesse by the hand as he did. However, only a minute or two passed before Gabriel became aware of a quiet, wet, sniffling sound.
With yet another sigh, the man paused once again, this time to scoop the boy up and settle him on his hip before they were moving forward again, stride remaining consistent. Jesse was quick to bury his face against Gabriel's shoulder, hiccuping faintly as he rubbed his face against the material of his dad's hoodie.
āYou worried me, Jesse. Me /and/ your auntie Ana." Gabriel spoke after a long moment, subconsciously holding the child a little closer to himself as he recalled the way his heart had pounded in his chest, rapid with panic upon seeing that both Jesse and Fareeha had disappeared from both his and Ana's sight. It had been a large park, bordered by an even larger forest. Gabriel and Ana had wasted no time, jolting from their positions on the park bench to locate wherever the two little troublemakers had wandered off to.
Of course they'd been in the forest. And not in the outskirts of it either, deep within, playing some childs game that didn't seem to even remotely take into consideration not getting lost. Or raising the blood pressure of adults.
Lifting his head long enough to wipe an arm beneath his nose, Jesse mumbled something that sounded very much like a half muffled, watery "M'srry, papi..."
Raising a hand, Gabriel settled it against Jesse's back, rubbing in slow, soothing circles. "I know, mijito." He replied, pace becoming a little more leisurely as he turned the corner onto their street. He could see Jack's car parked in the driveway. "You're still going to sit in timeout though." He added, not wanting the child to think that he'd be getting away with anything.
Jesse sniffled again, resettling his face against Gabriel's shoulder, one hand moving to idly fiddle with one of the hoodie's drawstrings.
Taking his silence as agreement, Gabriel looked to the side and placed a light kiss atop Jesse's mop of brown hair. "Just ten minutes." He continued, voice gentling out. "Then we'll see what daddy has planned for dinner, alright?"
At this, he at least received a nod. It was quite possible that the events of the day had tired the boy out a bit, as protest was usually on the rise of nearly all reprimands. Satisfied, Gabriel climbed the porch steps to their house, pushing open the door and disappearing inside with his child.
LISTEN sometimes Alfred has to kick the blankets off at night during the summer because itās so hot and also Ludwig makes it 5 times hotter because heās ALWAYS wrapped around him when sleeping and there is literally no way to unwrap him
I love the idea of Ludwig's arm draped heavily around Alfred's torso and his leg hooked around his calf. Alfred is just sprawled out, covered in sweat, staring up at the ceiling and trying to wriggle away an inch or so. Not happening. The most he manages are getting the sheets onto the floor, which will have to do cause the big lug ain't moving.
Also, Alfred could definitely use his strength but he doesn't want to cause then what if Ludwig wakes up?? He looks so content?? And Ludwig being all cuddly and clingy is honestly really cute so Al doesn't wanna disturb that.
HC that in the beginning of their relationship Alfred is very affectionate when theyāre in public, including while in meetings. This includes the casual hand holding, little pecks on the cheek, and more noticeable āmwah!ā kisses on the cheek when Alfred is feeling extra silly. Ludwig doesnāt mind so much, although it does take him a bit of time to get use to it and Alfredās okay with that. Although it can get hard at times being the only one to initiate affection in public, but Ludwig makes up for it behind closed doors by being one of the best cuddlers. Then one day something happens, at a meeting most likely, where Ludwig drops a casual kiss on Alfredās cheek without thought, just a happy gesture because idk heās in love okay??
Like, okay, Alfred is mid-sentence at a meeting, saying something that sounds plausible and heās just so dang passionate when he speaks that Ludwig just canāt help but lean over and smooch his cheek because heās happy to be with him.
And he doesnāt think anything about it at first until thereās a small pause in the room and he glances at Alfred, who blinks a few times before this little grin forms and promptly blossoms into full-blown one. Heās grinning at the table, at his notes, not really seeing them, just thinking about that little peck. Ludwig turns a pretty shade of pink, clears his throat and tries to coax Alfred back on track with what he was talking about. It takes a bit, but itās slowly manageable. And by the time they get to the next person speaking, the two are casually holding hands beneath the table.
Alfred has this dopey smile on his face, practically making heart eyes at his guy while Ludwig has one elbow on the conference table, half hiding a smile into the palm of his hand.
Also a good third of the room is probably rolling their eyes at these doofs.
Lmao wow this got longer than I thought it would be.
This is kinda rushed but I had a thought for an AU Iāve been bouncing around, altering a few jobs, but itās basically Robbie being peeved and angsty regarding his husband. I havenāt written fic in a while and this is rushed out in about an hour and a half from my phone, so be merciful.
āāāāāāāāā
Light from the hallway slivered into the otherwise dark kitchen entryway. Accompanied by the moonlight streaming through the kitchen window, it served to frame the silhouette hunched firmly over the table. Nails digging into polished wood, Robbie drew his shoulders further forward and sucked in a shuddering breath.
Possibilities churned away in his mind faster than he could fully comprehend. Plagued by images of dirty blonde hair matted with blood, familiar blue eyes glassy and unseeing, body chilled to the touch against the cold, rough pavement.
āStop it, Stop itā¦ā Robbie hissed quietly to the darkness around him, running a hand up through his disheveled black hair and tugging sharply. He couldnāt think that way. It wouldnāt make things any better. And yet that was all his mind could focus on. He could hardly breath, chest rattling with each inhale as he shakily shoved himself up and away from the table.
āHeās fineā¦Heās fine..shit.ā He just barely refrained from lashing his leg out and kicking at the chair heād nearly tipped over in his haste to stand. It wouldnāt do to accidentally wake the kids at three in the morning, especially Ella.
There was an abrupt sound from outside, the heavy thud of footfalls
followed by the sound of a key being turned and rattled in a lock. The front door was nudged open and quietly closed with such care that Robbie found himself pursing his lips even as his heart thudded rapidly in his chest.
The footsteps drew nearer as Sportacus entered the kitchen. He flickered on the lights, his other hand tugging firmly at the first few buttons of his uniform that peaked out just beneath a black vest. Movement froze as the man realized he wasnāt alone at this early hour.
He took a good look at his husband, standing against the kitchen counter with a defensive curl of his lips and rigid posture. Adorned in red and purple pajama bottoms and a black tank top often stained with motor oil from fiddling with one thing or another. Sportacus hated when it would get on the bed sheets, but it was a losing battle as Robbie was about as stubborn as they came.
āI wasnāt aware they didnāt have phones at the station.ā Robbie remarked dryly, moving his hands away from where theyād braced themselves against the countertop and instead crossing his arms over his chest.
āRobbieā¦ā
āYou promised meā¦You promised me.ā He hissed with vehemence, nails digging into his own arms as he pressed himself further against the counter, staring at the other with open hostility and accusation burning in his eyes behind a thin, glimmering shine of moisture. āA solid month of ābehind the deskā work. Where youād be safe.ā He continued, biting out his words as loud as he dared in the otherwise quiet home.
āIt was unexpected, they needed more people and we werenāt allowed our phones due to how they were interfering with the radio signal.ā Sportacus attempted to defend, albeit sheepishly, as if heād rehearsed it a few times on the car ride home. However, his eyes were zeroing in on where Robbieās nails were probably digging sharp crescent moon shaped indents in his arms.
āThatās no excuse.ā Robbie all but growled. But Sportacus could see the slight tremble to the otherās jaw, the rigid stance that had become more hunched and withdrawn as he attempted to gain some control over his emotions when all he probably wanted to do was scream and have an absolute fit over his husbandās career.
Taking a step closer, Sportacus raised his arms a fraction, finding that he couldnāt help it. He needed to touch the other, offer some form of comfort and reassurance that he was alright. And after the night heād had, reaffirm for himself that he was okay in the process.
āYou have a stab vest on.ā Robbie informed him in a huff, pointedly looking away and giving the other man a reason to pause.
Glancing down at himself as if to check that yes, he was indeed still sporting his standard issued vest, Sportacus hastily excused himself to the front entryway to remove said vest and lay it on the table beside the door. While he was there, he removed the holsters at his sides and hung them on the hook high above the table. Quickly returning to the kitchen, he stared at where Robbie remained, unmoving. Sportacusās fingers twitched and he took a few bold steps forward to close the distance. Robbie merely lifted his chin and glanced almost challengingly down at the shorter male. For the haughty expression that overcame him, pain, clear and simple, nearly shattered the facade.
Silently, Sportacus rested his hands at Robbieās thin waist and squeezed lightly, drawing the other closer to him. āIām sorryā¦ā he whispered, feeling a tremble that spoke volumes to terror run through his husbandās body. āIām so sorry, Robbie. I should have called. Everything was just so hectic andā¦Bessie..She got hurt and they were asking for helpā¦I couldnāt say no.ā
Robbieās body slowly sagged forward as the other spoke, face burrowing firmly against the crook of his neck. āYou could haveā¦ā he breathed, voice shaky as his hands came up to fist in the material of Sportacusās dark blue dress shirt. āYou could have said no.ā The words would have been harsh had they not been so absolutely drained and tired, trailing off with a tinge of desperation. It felt almost selfish and wrong, but just barely. The want for some peace from all the excitement far outweighed it.
Quiet filled the space, only interrupted by the faint hum of the fridge and grumbling of pipes from beneath the sink, as Sportacus slid his large hands up and curled his arms around Robbie, keeping him firmly against him. He could feel his neck and the collar of his shirt becoming wet, dampened with tears.
āI canāt lose you, Alex..ā Robbie spoke quietly, voice nearly muffled before he lifted his head and rested his chin at Sportacusās shoulder. āI canāt. I refuse to.ā He stated resolutely, prompting his husband to lean back and peer at him. The declaration would have been almost amusing had the situation not been rather serious.
āOh, krĆŗttiư mitt. Look at me.ā Sportacus hummed, a soft, comforting smile tugging at his lips that made his carefully groomed twig of a mustache twitch. āIām here. Iām right here and Iām not going anywhere.ā Hand moving from the small of Robbieās back to gently cup his jaw, Sportacus leaned forward and brushed a sweet, soft kiss over slightly chapped lips. Another one followed soon after, placed gently at the corner of Robbieās mouth.
The tall man sighed softly, looking at the other from beneath his lashes, dark hair flopped and messily splayed against his forehead. āWeāre not done talking about this..ā he warned, āBut I have to be up in a few hours to get the kids on the bus and even earlier if Ella has anything to say about it. Which she will.ā He continued wearily, surprised the baby hadnāt fussed herself awake in the past few hours or so.
Sportacus shook his head and held up a hand as he hooked an arm around Robbieās waist and led the way from the kitchen, turning off the light. āIāll get Stephanie and Ziggy up and ready for school. And Iāll handle the baby.ā He assured, even as he looked at Robbie with equally tired eyes.
Robbie promptly rolled his eyes, āYou play hero enough as it is. Itās fine. Way past your bedtime anyway.ā He pointed out with a wry twist of his lips that Sportacus could have sworn was the starts of amusement.
Sportacus smiled broadly in return as they entered their bedroom, pulling Robbie closer and leaning up to capture a quick, chaste kiss. āIāll get Ella her bottle and the kidsā lunches prepared, alright?ā He attempted to compromise.
Robbie merely huffed and waved a hand dismissively as he moved away to flop unceremoniously onto the bed, a faint flush crawling up his cheeks.
Sportacus continued to smile as he shed his uniform and balled up a few articles to toss into the hamper, bouncing them off the wall and then the bedside lamp before they would tip into the basket.
āStop that.ā Robbie groused from where he had already burrowed beneath the blankets.
A soft chuckle was the garnered response as the bed dipped beneath Sportacusās additional weight. āYes, dear.ā He hummed, leaning over and clicking the bedside lamp off.
