Iris van Herpen has significantly changed the modern fashion industry panorama. A crossroad between high art and high fashion, her extraordinary clothes have the appearance of wearable sculptures.

Collaborating with scientists, biologists and computer programmers, she has created a brand that is more architectural than sartorial. Van Herper’s designs have been shown in museums, runways and red carpets worldwide. Thanks to her attention to detail, as well as the remarkable craftsmanship and execution of her design, “TIME” Magazine named Iris van Herpen's 3D printed dress one of the 50 Best Inventions of 2011.

Exploring the electricity of the body, the designer collaborated with experientialist Carlos van Camp for her 'Voltage' Couture show in Paris, where a model makes movement tangible on the runway. (”Voltage” Couture show, Paris 2013)

Exploring the porous boundaries between private and public in the modern world, as well as the notion of the ownership of one's own body, Iris van Herpen collaborated with artist Lawrence Malstaf for her 'Biopiracy' Couture show in Paris, in 2014. During the show, the where models were suspended at the runway in a vacuum art installation. (March 2014, Paris Fashion Week)

The van Herpen 18-piece collection presented in Paris, in July 2017 was like her designs, otherworldly. As the models were wearing sculpturelike 3-D laser cut dresses and capes on the runway, five Danish performance artists from the group Between Music played instruments while immersed in five tanks filled with liquid, coming up every now and then for air.

The iconic “Bird dress” from the collection “Wilderness embodied”, presented at Paris Haute Couture week, July 2013. The designer was inspired by nature’s wild beauty and its forces.

Both items, along with five other Iris van Herpen iconic designs, were included in The Manus X Machina exhibition about fashion in the age of technology at the Metropolitan Museum NY in 2016.

A pioneer in utilizing 3D printing as a garment construction technique, van Herpen is fusing technology and traditional couture techniques in her work in order to enhance the sculptural form of her designs, while creating a unique space where past and future collide.

Describing her unique design and artistic vision as “New Couture”, Iris van Herpen is continuously pushing the boundaries of fashion design, by inventing new forms and methods of garment construction by combining traditional and radical materials.

Fall/winter 2013-2014 ready-to-wear collection.  

Yamamoto created a fairy tale around the notion of “powerful dolls”. Exploring visual limits, the designer admitted that the volume was his focus in this collection. Erasing the borders between men’s and women’s silhouettes, Yamamoto applied the same hand-painted designs at the voluminous otherworldly pieces.

A great example of Yamamoto’s signature silhouette. In addition to exploring formal, classical shapes, the internationally acclaimed designer loves creating large, loose costumes, such as this straight oversized coat with no traditional shape or construction and with a piece of red fabric as detail.

In an interview about his line “Y’s” in 1977, the internationally acclaimed designer said: “It meant something to me – The idea of a coat guarding and hiding a woman’s body. I wanted to protect the woman’s body from something – maybe from men’s eyes or a cold wind".

Yamamoto is a Japanese fashion brand created by designer Yohji Yamamoto in 1981. Known for his avant-garde tailoring featuring Japanese design aesthetics, the fashion designer based in Tokyo and Paris, has received numerous awards for his work and contributions to fashion.

Aquascutum was established in 1851 in West London by John Emary.

After succeeding in producing the first waterproof wool, John Emary had his discovery patented and he created the brand "Aquascutum" (Latin for "watershield") in 1853.
